Man I'm sure glad we are done paying those high medical insurance payments, kinda took the sting out of it when you could deduct it from your income tax also the 10% sales tax, haven't really had a clear understanding if they are going to do away with mortgage interest also. Kinda defeats any incentive to buy a house over renting. Ya gotta love it,. Or not don't really matter.

Wow that was weird. I felt weird and I checked my BP after feeling my abdomen and it was rock hard, talked to the cardio nurse today and he didn't think I was in heart failure, but then I noticed Ive gained about 5 lbs and I don't know if it freaked me out but my bp and it was up to `60/45 pulse was about 80 and it kept going up. Within 30 min it was up to 205/60 pulse was 90. Trying to decide if I should go to the hospital and thought I'll be ok while praying don't take me right now. Eventually after about another 30 min it started coming down. The whole episode lasted a little over an hour and scared the crap out of both of us, almost called the 911 but figured I would just try to stick it out and see what happened, probably not too smart. AFter about 1 hr and 20 minutes it was back to normal. Now its down to 102/38. I don't know if it was a panic attack or what. never done that before.

Since you top number was high and the bottom number was still in a good range I would say panic attack.
My normal no at home is 107/63 but when I drive into Reno for my doctor's appointments it jumps to 154/105. White coat syndrome + Reno drivers = erratic bp.

My normal because of my leaking valve is 110/40
As long as you didn't have any other feeling like blurred vision/speech, sharp pains it sounds like a panic attack.
I took myself to the ER one night because I was feeling "off" and at the time i was still smoking. My bp was 175/121 so they admitted me and after 4 days of blood work, ultrasound of my arteries, and 2 MRI's they told me my potassium and sodium levels had tanked from too much exercise, water, and not enough salt and meat in my diet.
2 years later when I moved to the desert I found out I'm Hyponeximic and still am, my levels are still below normal.
Funny part is my grandmother(turning 96 on the 20th), her bp is always around 90/50 and she has been through ALOT, Spanish flu, Spanish Inquisition, etc.

I hope it's okay to ask for opinions, but I'm scheduled for cataract surgery in a month. The big issue is the type of lens. I've been using my left eye for reading, and my right for distance. Eye doc seems to be in favor of going for a distance lens, leaving me with glasses for reading and no corrective lens for distance. Still, I don't really like glasses and don't normally wear them. Still, if I do elect the distance lens, I could always have a spare eye, so to speak, for driving. I will still make up my own mind, but would like other opinions to toss around. If anyone has made this decision, were you happy with the results?

A lesser question involves astigmatism. Doc tells me I have it in the left eye, but fairly minor. I don't want to spend the extra money, but still, whatever I decide will be a lifetime benefit or detriment.

Again, I will make up my own mind; just looking for your thoughts.

Is lasik an option?

Sent from the future
No substitute for the lens replacement at all. So far, I haven't discovered laser as a treatment for the astigmatism. Lasik seems to be more involved with runaway blood vessels than the lens. I really think that having the eye's lens replaced anyway, I would get both taken care of in the same operation.

By the way, the traditional cataract procedure is covered by Medicare. The additional cost of a lens that helps with the astigmatism is at my own expense. Trust me, that's an important question.

Thanks for asking. I have a pre op appointment at the end of this month. By then, I'll probably have a whole bunch of questions I hadn't thought of.

I'm in the astigmatism crowd and have worn glasses for years. Tried toric contacts which was a nightmare.[emoji44]
It's crazy what Medicare will cover and won't.
Your situation is unique, there has to be a win-win situation for you. Medical science has come along ways, I'm surprised that there isn't a 'best' option.
Let me know what you find out.
I just had my eye exam last month and now I have a blind spot in between my distance and bifocals which is annoying. I don't mind wearing glasses but if I had another option to just use reading glasses I would probably jump on it. But then again, it's all up to my Medicare.

Well, you and the eye doc seem to be in agreement. By the way, he is very highly recommended in little old Farmington.

I have been the contact lens route, so I understand what you are talking about. My cataracts are "slogging along" as my doctor said, so I doubt I will have to make those decisions. If I had your eyes, I wouldn't spring the extra money for astigmatism correction. Go for the distance, I would want good binocular vision for driving, and use prescription reading glasses to correct for the astigmatism.

My eye muscle imbalance is getting worse, those muscles are getting tired, if I had the druthers, I would give up on it, and have one eye for distance and one eye for close.
