I have been the contact lens route, so I understand what you are talking about. My cataracts are "slogging along" as my doctor said, so I doubt I will have to make those decisions. If I had your eyes, I wouldn't spring the extra money for astigmatism correction. Go for the distance, I would want good binocular vision for driving, and use prescription reading glasses to correct for the astigmatism.

My eye muscle imbalance is getting worse, those muscles are getting tired, if I had the druthers, I would give up on it, and have one eye for distance and one eye for close.
I had Monovision contacts for maybe 20 years. Loved them! One eye for close up, the other for distance & them balance each other for middle distance. I wish I could get that with glasses since I can't wear contacts anymore.

I am wondering if I could get it with glasses, since the double vision is so bad, especially when I am tired. Forces me to sit up front at Mass, since it is so confusing for lip-reading.

I hope it's okay to ask for opinions, but I'm scheduled for cataract surgery in a month.

Wife has had both eyes done (separate visits, of course), and opted for distance on both, with glasses for reading. She's happy about it that way.

You should be able to get glasses made with lenses ground that way - or just go with bi-focals. Both eyes both distances. Or tri-focals :)

Seems like they could adjust your glasses for double vision some how.

They can only do so much. Like split the difference. It is better. Before I got my new glasses a week ago, I was afraid my left eye was going lazy; not likely at this late age, but....

I hope it's okay to ask for opinions, but I'm scheduled for cataract surgery in a month. The big issue is the type of lens. I've been using my left eye for reading, and my right for distance. Eye doc seems to be in favor of going for a distance lens, leaving me with glasses for reading and no corrective lens for distance. Still, I don't really like glasses and don't normally wear them. Still, if I do elect the distance lens, I could always have a spare eye, so to speak, for driving. I will still make up my own mind, but would like other opinions to toss around. If anyone has made this decision, were you happy with the results?

A lesser question involves astigmatism. Doc tells me I have it in the left eye, but fairly minor. I don't want to spend the extra money, but still, whatever I decide will be a lifetime benefit or detriment.

Again, I will make up my own mind; just looking for your thoughts.
I, too had both eyes done for distance, and have not regretted it. Use readers, but did that anyway before, and now, driving is a pleasure.
As a matter of fact, I just came back this morning from the doctor's office for my 6 month checkup! All is well!

I was going to wait until the exact day, but have a Happy Anniversary!! So many don't get to celebrate, for various reasons. You have been blessed.

Beautiful images, and that small video just warmed my floral heart! :)

... just looking for your thoughts.

Been wearing astigmatism-corrective glasses since the fifth grade; IOW, I'm used to them. Have worn trifocals for over 15 years. Ten years ago had lens implants a month apart. I went with distance/astigmatism lens. What a wonderful difference; no mo' nighttime driving 'starbursts' and reading print 'ripples'!

If needed and possible, I'd do it all again in a heart tick.

Thanks for the topic/reminder; time for an eye exam. Been eight years since my last...

How about anyone else?

Mid-May will be our 49th.

Sheesh they really opened the flood gate on sexual harassment. You know I had a gal that took advantage of me when I was a little out of it. I wonder if she has a high position in the govt or is rich. Man I could hit the lottery. Like Ginny said it used to happen a lot but no one said anything. Now these guys are all old fogeys and it's coming back to haunt them. People I would have never guessed. I see an 87 year old nun came forward, haven't read the whole story on that one. I gotta kick out of what Bill Maher said about Harvey Weinstein maybe if he went to Jenny Craig and shaved and didn't look like a Russian Cab Driver he could have got a gal the old fashioned way.

Well, thanks for a new thought. I hadn't even considered better depth perception.

Great! Personal experience is priceless, especially if it's someone else's.

WOW Gracie I still can't get over 50 years. Nowadays they are lucky to last 2. Who says we are old fashioned. Stay with the same person through thick and thin. Now they get in a fight and its over seems like.
We can't get over it either! It seems surreal for both of us!

When DH had his cataracts removed about 5 years ago they didn't give him these options but gave him lenses that made his vision 20/20 until recently. Do you not have that option?
