I just got back from the community Thanksgiving dinner across the street. Took my Reese's pie over several hours before. Got a serving of it! Just as I promised them, a little bit goes a long way-- drank a cup of coffee while I ate it, nice complement, and necessary. So nice to be able to try out a new recipe without blimping out over it. The turkey was excellent, real turkey, last year it seemed too processed. Good conversation with my neighbor.

We're putting on our annual Orphan's Thanksgiving again this year. We noticed many years ago that many of the servers at our favorite restaurant were students at the local U and couldn't afford to travel home for a single day to be with their families. We decided to invite them to our house since our children were grown, moved away, and wanting to begin their own Thanksgiving routines. It sort of grew from there to include other friends with no local family. Looks like 20-25 "orphans" this year. Eva does a turkey, a ham, mashed, and gravy; I bring up wine from the cellar; anyone who wants to can bring a side dish.

The grandkids are at their dad's. My daughter is getting ready to leave to visit a friend's family Thanksgiving. She's taking the only working car with her.

I guess I'll call my brother in a little while and spend Thanksgiving on the phone with him. He does have a daughter within an hour's drive. But, he hates holidays.

Speak of the devil! That's him calling!

Every Thanksgiving I recall having a fantastic Thanksgiving feast with a young family, including their two pre-teens, on a small ranch outside Perrin AFB, Tx in '66. They contacted my first sergeant to invite three airman over for the day. He asked me and two of my barrack mates. Not only yeah, but OH YEAH!

I just hope that that family felt the unforgettable joy they generated within three young airman that beautiful Thanksgiving day away from our families/homes.

I just hope that my dear fellow Porchers can recognize and count all their blessings today, and seek the best in their futures! You folk are truly priceless to this ol' phart!!!

May all ya'll get da biggest part of da 'wishbone'...

Eciggity will be starting their Black Friday super sale at midnite EST tonight. They aren't giving out any details but supposed to be the biggest best sale of the year. If you are interested in anything there it would be a good idea to be there at 0001 EST tonight. Easy for me it's 2101 PST. 24 hr clock is easier for me especially when it is 1200AM EST. I haven't seen anything on email about it but their FB page has the info. Last year it was 25% off the complete order. Just thought I'd let people know about this.

What a wonderful, lovely tradition! My DH and I used to do the same thing when we lived up north. Several of our son's friends came from broken families or were no longer in contact with them. We sort of adopted them…about 20-30 of them. They used to come to our house on weekends and stay…and stay. We loved it.

Now it's just the two of us here…no family near by.
