Well I got some info it was a complete Talgo train set and had the new Charger locomotives on it. They said that there are still cars that they can't get into because they are not stable. I don't think they know how many are dead at this point, the train was going the full speed of 79. The engine that the 2 crew members in was almost totally demolished from the looks of it. There was 2 crew members not sure if they were both engineers or one was a student, So this was all the latest equipment out there.

My source is just national TV coverage, but they've been reporting consistently for several hours now that there were 77 passengers and 6 crew, with 77 transported to hospitals, 4 of whom are critical. Some local Washington State news sources have been reporting that the 6 not transported to hospitals are deceased.

It was just a video of the train leaving on it's maiden voyage leaving Tacoma. The line is owned by Washington State DOT and was just rebuilt to bypass freight traffic and the curvy coast line. It definitely would cut some time. Travel time on this route was supposed to be 3 1/2 hours from Seattle to Portland. From what one guy was saying most of the ties had been replaced with concrete. It's an old BNSF line that the state bought and it cost a total of 181 million to do the whole thing.

Now I'm reading 800 million, I don't think anyone really knows the extent of the injuries and probably won't for a while. Those trains make stops at several places and pick up passengers and drop them off. It's really hard to say what happened and probably won't till the NTSB completes their investigation. Stuff is coming in jumbled up, I read one that said 13 rail cars still could not be searched and I don't think there was that many on the whole train. I also read a report of 3 dead but no one is confirming it. It will be a while for sure.

The BN was probably happy as a clam at High tide to get those trains off their main north south line. I've talked to guy that were still working that south end and with all the freight traffic and the Passenger trains takin priority they couldn't get their trains from Vancouver Wa to Seattle in 12 hours that they are allowed to work. Slow goin for sure.

I had to go to my pcp the other day to followup on this bp med. Told her I had been fighting this head coldn with it itchyn runny, stuffy nose thing. She asked me about my breathing, listened to my chest, listened somemore. I told her it had not gone to my chest at all. No wheezing or coughing at all. I told her that this is the first time I have not had bronchitis develop within a day or having an allergy attack or cold & that I credit the pg in the solution that I vape with keeping it out of my chest. She said she was shocked every year when I don't come in with bronchitis. Told her I just haven't had it since I swiitched from smoking to vaping. Maybe I need to exhale thru my nose? We talked a little anout the changes I've seen h how long it took to happen. She's just happy I don't smoke & in seeing so much improvement.

kewl beans! Awesome that you don't get as sick as you used to, and that hopefully the doc is opening her mind to vaping. At least you're letting her know about it, and that's great!

We're not too bad here this week, 40-50 but supposed to get nasty this weekend. Dil invited 40 people over for Christmas eve but suppose it will depend on the weather as to how many show up. No idea where we'll put 40 peeps in this house though

Just wrapped up the AKC National Championships show. Best show in our 21 year history of dog shows! Exhausted, but Happy. Now we just want to hide from the public for a few weeks. Gawd, ya can't fix stupid!

I had that set as a reminder on my phone, then had to look it up again.......apparently they aren't televising it til Jan I think, or maybe Feb. I have it set as a reminder again. that is the one that used to be Eukanuba right? Love that one and Westminster cuz you get to see all the dogs instead of only 4 or 5 out of each group. I imagined they streamed it on the net, but I'm currently in a phase of going to bed between 8 am and noon. Hate that cycle so hope this one doesn't last too much longer.

Nope, he's on the other end of the State. It's about 20 miles or so from me, though.

Local news has been nothing but, since. Inaugural run of a new high speed (for the US) commuter train (Seattle to Portland), most cars off the tracks, a couple upside down on the interstate below. Said to have been 70 passengers (no mention of crew!), 3 fatalities reported atm, none from the cars and one semi hit on the highway, all from the train. So far, other than those 3, most of the injured are at least walking wounded.

@Debadoo, yes, used to be Eukanuba. They did live stream groups which started at 5 pm EST. I believe it will be televised on New Years day.

Well, I had that cataract surgery today. Doctor said I did great. I asked him how he did and he said real good.

Now that my pupil is beginning to return to normal, I can more or less read standard size screen text, though it's with a certain amount of strain. That's not too bad I guess as I elected the lens replacement that is intended to return distance vision to 20/20 - more or less. At this moment, it is worse than when I went in, but I understand that is pretty normal, and it does seem better than eight hours ago.

My biggest fear was oversleeping and missing the appointment. Second biggest was sneezing or coughing at exactly the wrong moment. No pain, just an almost irresistible impulse to scratch my nose and straighten out my increasingly stiff neck. Fortunately, I only had to restrain myself for 10 or 15 minutes (lost track of time).

In February 2016 I visited Las Vegas. While I was there I hung out some with Bud, a horse-owning friend who lives there.

According to CBS yesterday Amtrak CEO stated that it was 12 Talgo coaches and 2 locomotives making total of 14

A terrible derailment, people injured and killed...who knows how much money has been spent...a safety feature that had been installed, but not activated...and all of the measures taken would only have shortened the time for a trip between Seattle and Portland by a mere 10 minutes!
