Me too remember my folks driving all over chasing bargins. But it was their past time/leisure time ... I think they enjoyed the chase more than saving the money.

Gas prices ... Gulftane was 24&9 when I got my license ... but no serious Motörhead would put that “turtle piss’ in tank. We paid for the premium at 27&9.

Cheapest I ever saw gas was 17 cents a gallon driving across Texas in the late 60’s. And holy crap, not just in the movies, but I actually saw a great big Lincoln convertible with long horn steer horns as a hood ornament.

When I was a senior in high school, I pumped gas at a DX station at the state line of Kansas and Oklahoma. There was a Sinclare station across the road. We were always a penny cheaper than they were and I saw gas at 10 cents a gallon during the gas wars we had with them. Cigarettes were 30 cents a pack and the 100s were a penny more. I was paid 90 cents an hour and earned every dime of it. We not only pumped gas but also fixed flats, did oil changes and full lube jobs that included repacking wheel bearings and minor tune-ups. I hated working on the tires for the big trucks, I was always afraid one of the rings wouldn't be seated right and the tire would blow apart. Those were the days. lol

The Yankees haven't won 3 in a row or lost 3 in a row all season long. If they win today it'll be 3 straight wins, and they're up 4-0 at home against the Twins in the 3rd inning, on ESPN. Go Yanks!
14-1. Yay!

My doctor's office just called with the results of the bone density test that was done 5 days ago. It turns out I have osteoporosis in my hips and back, and they called in an Rx for alendronate, which is the generic name for Fosamax.

A week ago I wasn't taking any meds at all except for self-medication with booze. Now, with the addition of alendronate, I'm on an Rx topical med that I've used before but ran out of 2 years ago, plus 5 new oral meds.

Oh, well.

Yup, it was 3 years ago for me. From one med, up to I don't even know how many.

And so, I went in to town today. 1st stop was to pick up my jaw scan that shows I have too much bone loss in my upper jaw to place new implants without first having a sinus lift/bone grafts. The place that did the scan doesn't do sinus lifts, so the purpose of me getting a copy of the scan (they put it on CD) is to send or take it to the place I'm going to that does do sinus lifts and bone grafts. I was so hoping that I could get all steps taken care of in Rocky Mount, but nope, there isn't a soul in town who does that kind of surgery. Therefore I'll be going to the Big City, Raleigh.

While they were making the CD copy, I picked their brains and told them about how I'd been diagnosed with osteoporosis and given an Rx for alendronate. They informed me that bone surgery, particularly in the jaw, was contraindicated for people taking alendronate. I asked if that was because of the condition, the medicine, or both, and they said the medicine.

So, I called my doctor's office and left a message that I wasn't going to start taking the alendronate until checking out the possibility of getting the sinus lift/bone graft surgery. If I'm a viable candidate for the surgery, I'll get the surgery, wait months for it to heal, get the implants, wait more months for healing, THEN start taking the medicine.

2nd stop was to get the failing A/C in my car checked. I got it recharged, with dye, and will take it back in a week or three so that the shop can see where it's leaking. For now, the A/C is working fabulously again with the recharge. It took a fair amount of time for the Freon to all leak out in the first place. If proper repair will be super expensive, I just might go buy a newer used Forester and trade this one in while the A/C is still going strong. We'll see... I haven't decided what number would make me hesitate to get the A/C fixed.

The 3rd errand on my trip to town was going to be to the drug store, but that trip was now not urgent so I skipped it.

Fourthly, I stopped at Sheetz and got a sub. My brother's coming to visit Thursday so I also got some seltzer water because that's what he likes to drink.

If somebody else had posted this, would I have read the whole thing? Prolly not, so you're definitely off the hook.

I cannot seriously consider ever moving. Why? Because I have something rarer than hen's teeth: a car repair shop that I trust. I don't care whether they do it intentionally or not, but the final price is ALWAYS lower than the price they estimate up front. If it's a gimmick it is a fantastic one. They also do excellent work. Carolina Tire in Rocky Mount NC can't be beat. I've been going to them for decades.

Bells, it was a typical post from you, well written, decently broken up into paragraphs, and worth a read. Isn't it a biaatch when one problem can't be resolved because of another? But other options are always open. I spent five hours in the emergency room on Thursday night. My favorite new toy is my home blood pressure monitor.

As you advance into the "sunset" years the number of meds you have to take will decrease. Reason being that by that time in your life one major illness will grab you and shake you to your core. At that time you will concentrate on that one thing because it will make whatever other things that have had your attention seem very unimportant.

I don't want to seem ungrateful for the existence of our little group BUT what happened to my signature AGAIN?

Looks like a bad link, Lulu. It shows, for me, as "ht tps://postimages.org" (no space, but I didn't want to post the actual link.) Needs something after that .org for it to grab.
