On trackball cleaning: almost all (all that I know of) trackballs these days are optical rather than having physical rollers. The little silver contact points inside the bodies are just that - contact points that the ball skids on. The motion is detected by a pattern on the ball itself moving past optical windows in the body of the trackball. The area around the contact points and the optical windows (little squares) need to be cleaned of lint and grunge from time to time. I use an old toothbrush and sometimes a wooden toothpick to clean these areas - no solvent.

If the ball gets too "dry" (clean of oil) it may drag on the contact points and be hard to move smoothly. OTOH if it gets too oily (from skin oils and anything else that may be on your fingers or thumb - Ah-Ha! Pizza at the computer again) it will pick up lint and grunge requiring cleaning more often. It's a balancing act; you just have to deal with it. When dry, I use the oil secreted from beside the human nose. This oil tends to be very long-chain (like sperm whale oil and jojoba oil* - these all are actually waxes that are liquid at room temperature) and thus doesn't tend to polymerize and turn to a sort of varnish.

=============
* Oddly these three sources are the only places on earth where these liquid waxes form naturally. The oils/liquid waxes from these sources are excellent for lubricating tiny mechanical instruments, like watches. There are no good substitutes. Another use: pipe smokers like the oil from beside the nose to condition briarwood pipes and keep them from drying out and cracking

At least they won't be as far away.
Yep she never was, it gets confusing but our Grandaughter will be here after Ginny's next chemo which starts on the 25th. I think they got a house in Spanaway. The owner accepted their offer now just have to wait and see if he is going to fix the things that the inspector found. She is flying up with the baby and Jacobs dad is flying down and driving one of their cars up and Jacob will drive the pickup with the 2 dogs.

Anything that gets rid of wires is a joy to me! Wires make me crazy. Our grandkids will probably live in a wireless world and I'm so happy for them! It probably won't take you long at all to get used to the wireless mouse and keyboard and you'll never want to go back - well, except that now you have 3 things to keep together. But it's more like you'd have to get used to having a wire than not. Hey, you could have posted here anyway. It would have kept us guessing.
You are oh so right Janet. I love the wireless keyboard and trackball that work off of the same dongle. So handy with a laptop. My laptop is a 17.3" and it is almost like a desktop but with portability.

Hi all, today while going through email I got one from How-To-Geek. One of the articles deals with one of my hobbies, stargazing. I use Stellarium on my desktop/laptop to plan out my night. I just really don't like taking my laptop out in the yard to set things up. Well, there is now a new mobile version of Stellarium that is great for Chromebook and also works well on my Samsung tablet. I'm not sure if I can post the link, but a quick search for howtogeek and then the article is on the main page. Have fun.

I have a Logitech K360 works very well with a Logitech M570 trackball uses the same usb dongle. I have been very happy with both the trackball keeps not working with the ball part of it not making the cursor move correctly but I have had it for quite a while. They were under $50 for both.
I like the trackball in the middle, with the select and right click buttons to the left and right of the trackball. That's the way they are on the corded Logitech Trackman Marble, which is a really great mouse except that it is not durable and it's corded. I was going through one or more Trackmen per year because the contacts and return springs for the buttons would get worn out.

I've been using a Logitech M570 trackball for over a year and still can't get used to the location of the trackball and the buttons. For me, it's a very awkward design.

So, I just got a Wireless Kensington Orbit today. I like the select and right click buttons, but I don't care much for the scroll ring. However, it's better for me than the M570.

In one of the Star Wars movies, I think maybe the first one, Hans Solo says "I'll be there in just a parsec". When I saw the movie at the theater, eons ago, I busted out laughing at the malapropism, but the others in the theater just looked at me like I was from outer space.

Well to top everything else off, I got Ginny into the doctor today to check her sprained ankle. Broken the small bone on the left side of her left leg. She called in a walking boot which is all she needs to wear for 6 weeks and stay off of it as much as possible and the sore on my stump is infected so antibiotics for me and stay off of it as much as possible. How is @MikeE3 coming with that transporter?? Has not been a good day at all. First we got to the doc's office and fire trucks and ambulance was there and a guy keeled over on the sidewalk. They tried CPR for a long time but could not get him to respond. Then we went to a medical supply to get the walking boot and they are going out of business but said we could get it in a couple days. Like everyone there was mentally challenged. Went to PU Rx's and they couldn't get the computer to work. All the regular people have been on vacation. Just one of those days I guess.

What was that property you were flying over?
My next door neighbor's house. The house is hidden pretty well by trees, and is at the rear of the horse pasture. I knew they were home and so I was trying to get close enough that they'd hear me buzzing them, but they were watching a movie on TV and never heard my drone. For over a year I've been using a set of low-noise props... maybe I should put the noisier stock props back on.

A couple years ago I picked up a leather desk chair. Since I spend the majority of my time at my desk the chair is wonderful. Anyway, the last 6 months or so it has started slowly going down. It is not often but is just often enough to get aggravating. With the weather we have been having, my pain level has been elevated so I decided it was time to do something. I went out to the workshop and found some PVC pipe that I cut into 2-inch pieces. I then cut a 3/8 inch strip out of the pieces. Then I turned the chair over and snapped the pieces over the pneumatic plunger. The chair won't adjust anymore, but that is fine with me. With my bad body, it is hard getting out of the chair when it is in the lower position.

Maybe I'll have to check that out, only thing it would use another USB port.

You know I thought it was really strange how many people were standing around watching the guy die. I saw all I needed when we walked in and they were doing CPR all I could see was he was extremely overweight. His belly was bouncing up and down. But it is amazing how many just stood around watching this all transpire. When we came out he was still laying there all covered up, waiting for the coroner I'm sure. Not something I need to see at closer range. But that's me I guess.

Not track ball, but back in the days of corded mice with ball I used to have to periodically clean the rollers inside. My big problem was cat hair sticking to them and jamming them so they wouldn't turn. Maybe have a look at those?

Yes! I was always amazed at the gunk that quickly bult up on those rollers behind the ball. I used a paper clip to flip it out. And I kept a clean workspace, too.
With an optical mouse there's no ball on the bottom, it's on top for your thumb. But it still needs rollers under it in order to roll at all. I bet that's where your problem is.
