I hate to admit, I am getting old. I am watching, "The Longest Day". Going through the list of the cast and crew, the number of actors and actresses who have gone to the big screen in the sky is depressing!
Yes, it is. I love watching those old movies. Today's srldom interest me.. Darkest Hour was good. The Post was good.

Boy, if you like that older stuff like I do you ought to get into Streaming. There are plenty of apps out there. Even YouTube is good.

4-7" in our forecast (I'm hoping for the lower number!)

3 strikes timing: our snow blower was picked up for seasonal service yesterday, husband can't shovel per doctor's orders and I'm just getting back to walking after a broken ankle so the slick driveway is a concern. I didn't do the ankle any favors today walking around 3 linked hospital buildings with the DH for his pre-op tests, it's now elevated and on ice.

Fortunately, we have a friend with a plow so over half the driveway will get cleared and I'll just need to do the porch, a path to the cars and get the snow off of them. Rain comes in afterwards which will melt some, but it will also make what's left a heavy nasty mess. I think I can fit my rigid ankle brace in my boots if I loosen them up enough. The bad news is the brace triggers plantar fasciitis. UGH!

I afraid it's going to be a miserable winter. I just saw the fattest squirrel ever in the back yard. That can't be good.

Yep it's like my list of friends. I'm ready to join them. Anytime would be fine. I'm sick of the govt becoming the boss telling us how we need to protect us from us. Pain Meds, E Cigarettes, The never used to give a damn till we got the habit now it's their job to make our lives miserable. I'm tired and ready to go home.

5 days since we've heard from Patrick ... @2legsshrt, what's up ... not like you to stay away so long.
I'm here just lost all my get up and go. It got up and went. Went to Walmart today and I couldn't even get around the stinkin store. Next time going to try ordering on line and go pick it up. Cold and foggy here today. I'm just tired. My dog is even watching me.

I'm tired of what this country is becoming and what my life is becoming. I don't understand why they can't just let me come to the end of my life on my terms not theirs. Go protect someone else. I've made it this long without the interference why can't I just go out without the this mess we are in now. Our allies are out enemies and our enemies are supposedly our friends. I read an article the other day of how if we got into a war with Russia or China we would more then likely lose. That's good to know.
What happened to being the most powerful country in the world. I can think of one thing or person that is dividing us so badly and I think you know who that is. Like my mama used to say if you can't say something nice say nothing at all so I'm done.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy snow tires and wheels for our Subaru. Went to Tire Rack and even tho I have 17" wheels they recommend going to a 16" with bigger sidewalls giving you the same diameter as the low profile 17". I can get Bridgestone Blizzak studless snow tires with an excellent tread and new black steel wheels for $850 for four. Can use them over the pass without chains when snow tires are required. I would have to pay for mounting and balancing the first time I use them but after that should be fairly reasonable. We are due for a bad winter and I would like to be able to make it to our social life appointments and maybe go over to the other side.
Palliative Care came by yesterday and explained it so we are going to get signed up then if and when we need it they are there. There is a place that provides sevices like shopping, light housework anything you want and only $25 an hour, gee what a deal. NOT. Why is it that unskilled labor is worth $15 over minimum wage. That's more then I was making at the RR before I retired. We need to go to Costco but neither one of us are looking forward to it and I figure they would hit me for $75 to do it for me. Kinda takes the Cost out of Costco. They also mentioned the VA which I have no confidence in. They used to have me getting tests to see what's going on with my lungs and the rest of me but since my doctor quit and they assigned me to a PA in Boise Id, I haven't heard a thing out of them except wanting me to fill out surveys every time I get a prescription, which I think I'm about to the last refill on the 4 I get from them. Not sure what will happen then.

Went in for labwork for Ginny the other day and the doc strolled thru. Ginny said to him "Hey You, come here, he is not used to being spoken too like that because he is kind of a rock star in the world of Cancer. So he came over and she gave him a big hug and said thank you for saving me. I thought he was going to faint. I think it made him feel good. He is the one who ordered the right things in the hospital to bring her out of what she was going thru after almost dying. The hospital if it was left up to them wouldn't have. Her RBC and HGB is slowly coming up to 8.3 normal is 10+ but she is out of the transfusion range. I'm going in to get my legs looked at and see if there is something he can do so that I can wear them till I get new ones.

Oh and one more thing. All of these poor people in CA, 631 now missing. Our leaders answer, poor forest management cut off funding for them. Couldn't possibly be climate change that couldn't happen on his watch. Now you see why I haven't posted anything. just not feeling well at all, mentally or physically. Sorry to lay all this crap on you guys. But I just feel like crying all the time.

@2legsshrt Thanks for checking in Patrick ... you know you're always in our thoughts and prayers and when you disappear for 5 days we get concerned. You might want to check on Michelin too, right now they are offering a $70 rewards card rebate. You can get them competitively priced to Bridgestone as long as you don't go looking at their top line models.

Whatever tires you get, DO get them Siped. Usually adds about $10 per tire, but improves traction by a huge factor, and, counter-intuitively, increases tread life.

I always have them done when getting new, but I've been told that it can be done on used ones as well.

Performance Tire Siping | What is Tire Siping - Les Schwab

Been doing that for more than 20 years, many of which I was still working, and driving on black ice and compact snow, and, of course for us here in the Pacific NW, lots of rain. Definitely feel the difference from un-siped tires, even on ice. (While I do toss the chains in the car, seasonally, I've only needed them once in that time, traction was good enough without.) And typically get significantly more life than "rated."

And I've heard/read that all the State Police cars are on siped tires.

A lot of pros and cons on the google about siping. Importantly, it seems to void warranties.

I ain't cutting no slices in my tires ... sorry. I just rely on buying a quality tire and let the manufacturer sipe or not.

That said, here's what consumer reports says about siping.

"To see whether siping makes any difference, we tested two performance all-season models, an H-rated Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus and a V-rated Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S, with and without siping.

The siped version of both models showed modest but measurable improvements in snow-traction and ice-braking performance. But braking distances on wet and dry pavement were a few feet longer. Besides costing $60 or so for a set of four, having your tires siped potentially voids any tread-wear warranty. We don’t think the modest gains are worth the extra costs."

And a little history from Michelin:

    1930s: here comes the sipe:

During the thirties, Michelin worked on a new concept to improve vehicle traction on wet ground: the sipe.

This new invention was first used on summer tires:

before being applied to winter tires allowing Michelin to launch its first all-season tire: the MICHELIN XH.

This radial tire was designed for driving on snowy or icy roads as well as on dry or wet surfaces. Its tread design featured a multitude of sipes and wide grooves cut in a zigzag pattern to help expel the snow plus centrally positioned rubber tread blocks and holes for studs. The MICHELIN XH offered all the benefits of a winter tire in terms of its various grip-enhancing techniques.
