My above ground pool is shot and of course, I can't get anyone to replace it. This is the strangest area for getting reliable work done. They say they will come out, then don't show up or they say 'we sell them but don't install'. Go through the same issues with installers, if you can even find one. I have about given up. I would just have it removed and replace the deck but same issue, can't find anyone who wants to work around here.

Have Ya' checked out some of the Home Repair Services in your area, especially those that provide those services for free to seniors / disabled ? ? ?

While I noticed there are a number of organizations located in Atlanta, there are many also located for those who live in suburban areas too . . .

    Just Sayin' . . . ;)

    Google search:

You can also do a Google search more specific to your location too (I didn't know the town you live in/near or I would have tried to do one for you) . . . ;)

Also - There are even the services on the web/apps that recommend local "Handy-people" looking for work and will give you a quote too . . .

    Maybe even find someone here:

    Hope the Information is helpful . . . :D

Thanks so much, @Uncle . Doesn't appear to be any in my area, I am in a rural area about an hour from Valdosta, 4 hours south of Atlanta.

Even if I could get a grant, can't find workers for jobs here. I have tried people from handyman sites, etc and same results. I am also leery of having strangers off internet lists come out since I am out in the country on acreage. I did hire a handyman a couple times, was a disaster. He broke the simple bookcase he was putting together. A funny story about him...he was upstairs putting a bed frame together. After about an hour and a half, I wondered what was taking so long. He said he dropped the allen key that came with the bed and couldn't find it. He was going to go to HD (7 miles away) to get another one, I gave him another one and after another hour, he had the bed together. lol. It wasn't like the tool could have walked away, had to be on the floor in the bedroom.

I thought I found someone to replace the pool. He was supposed to be here last Friday, haven't heard from him since and he is my regular pool guy who didn't want the job (too busy) but agreed to take it on for me.

Dried muck? Is your pool empty?
Yes, it is an above ground pool. I drained all but about 5 inches and when the high temps, above 95°, the remaining water evaporated. Now all that is left is the dried leaves and who knows whatever collected in the bottom of the pool. I'm having to use a scrub brush to break up the dried "muck" then sweep it up and bag it. Right now the temp, according to my outside thermometer, is 107. I'm not going outside to do any work!

I wish the Angies/Home Advisor was on the up and up - I found out they just more or less sell the names/phone#'s to contractors once you go through the process of giving all of your info and you'll have people call you out of the blue, wth? I'm finding that using FB and joining local closed groups may give you more local people with decent references.

Almost like dried food on dishes  I know it sounds counterintuitive, but do you think putting some water back in and using a wet-dry vac may work so you don't have to scrub so much?

Crap ... now the anti-vaping machine is scaring the large battery companies into divorcing themselves from e-cigs. Sony and LG are telling vendors not to sell their batteries for e-cig use.

Stop Selling our Batteries for e-cig use

I've made purchases for Origin vapes, a good vendor. How did Sony even know about them?

I have had like less than good experiences with Angies List. Looking for window tinting services, I got one for Wisconsin. Two were for New Mexico, but no way I'm driving several hundred miles for window tinting. Beyond that, they use my membership as permission to send advice and thinly disguised advertisements about which I have zero interest.

I went to Home Advisor once and clicked on a couple local contractors to check them out. Next thing you know I'm getting calls from the contractors. It seems that the contractor is automatically notified when someone clicks on their name whether you wanted them to contact you or not. Turns out that's how it works and contractors pay for that service every time they get a notification. That's how the service is free to you. Pretty sure Angies list used to charge you a membership fee for the service until Home Advisor came along with no fee so Angie's had to change too.

Fortunately the one contractor who called me was the one I would have chosen anyway so it turned out ok. Kinda gave me the push to get going with the project.

Lord, just caught a passing clip of the news tonight.. They're trying to say that vaping causes seizures wth? No, maybe your kid was chasing the cloud chain vaping a high nic, gas station pod kid and his/her little yet to be developed brain got a nic overdose...

I do remember a good story my mom told me, when her father caught her smoking, he made her sit down with a pack of lucky strikes or camels, non filtered and made her smoke the whole pack. She said she was never so sick in her entire life...

Why is it that back in my day, if our parents even found out, they'd beat the stew out of us and we learned a lesson. Now a days parents find out they blame everyone but their "innocent lil angel", have no clue what substance their kid has ingested and push to take away the rights we have, to do what we damn well please???

but, never mind, I digress :grr:

3rd stinking edit - I just keep thinking of more things to say

You're right. So often a story is reported, but not all the information needed to actually understand what happened and don't bother trying to find a follow up.

Thanks for bringing me back to real time.

It's even worse than that. First it was about 39 cases over 10 years that they started the scare with, then they asked if anyone else had a similar report and it went up to 127 cases over 10 years. I'd guess that many of those later reports were driven by recall and confirmation bias - oh ya, I vaped, I might have had a seizure, it caused it! 12 per year.. I'd bet that's less than the average rate in the population, they're not that uncommon. Think of the number of vapers over 10 years.. this is tiny.

Also, the SG comments were 'maybe, might, we don't know, we're looking at it' There isn't enough here to even make a slight case for vaping causing seizures or even making a public statement about it. Chantix along with other FDA approved drugs have documented, more prevalent and worse side effects (suicide and suicidal thoughts).

    FUD at it's worst. :-x

on the brighter side -- enjoying my vacation! I got roped into work 2 days which is a major accomplishment, usually it's more like 4. Weather has been great and I worked more on the rain day.

That day, there was a break in the storms so the husband decided it was a good time to go for our annual ice cream treat. Off he went (I was trying to finish up) and came back with sundaes & hot handmade, crispy, french fries. We decided it was dairy, fruit, nuts, and veggies for dinner, that's good for you right?

Sad that we have to head home on Sunday but happy that we're coming back for another week later in the month.

    Best to all!

I had to smoke a whole cigar just for asking if I could try a puff. I think I was 12.
