Other movies among the 30 or so that I've watched in the past month, and that I recommend (but not as highly as I recommend Revolutionary Road):
I watched Shutter Island again last night. Leonardo DiCaprio. Really weird movie. Guess thats the nice part of being old is not remembering movies over 5 years old.

Damn I looked at the extended forecast for here and the highest temp between now and Christmas is 26 on the 22nd. This is getting to look a lot like depression. I hate the cold but at least we don't have 3' of snow yet. Ginny's RA is giving here a lot of problems and she postponed the Reclast because she had an eye infection and you can't have it if you have any kind of infection. Trying to get the house straighted up for Gdaughters visit but it's hard when you can't even get out to get the garbage can back down the driveway. This sucks. We have about 3" of snow but it ain't going anywhere in the near future.

lol I was waiting for someone to bring that up about the X. I still refuse. I'm keepin Christ in Christmas.
Heh, most folks think that's censoring the word. But on the contrary. X is the Greek symbol for Christ. :)

&:$:$(&& v,>}%{*]' tele-callers!!!!!
Not ONE SINGLE CALL... Until I'm in a meeting.
Then NOT ONE SINGLE CALL... Until I try to take a nap for lunch. SEVEN , yes SEVEN &$@~£|^#%{ calls during the lunch hour!

Turn your phone off, or at least your ringer and leave the phone in a different room. The trick is to remember to turn it back on when you wake up...

We unplugged our land line. I check the voice messages about every 4-6 weeks. There's usually a couple dozen junk messages left and over 100 calls that didn't leave a message. We're exclusively mobile phone users now. Only have the land-line to get a better deal on internet and tv. But even the mobile isn't immune to junk calls but it's usually less than 1/2 doz a month and if I don't recognize the number I don't answer. Seems junk phone callers don't even bother leaving messages so that's a help.

I'm fortunate in that my phone has a thing where i can BLOCK telemarketers!Took mr a while to figure it out...but i gotter now:D

Revolutionary Road, 2008, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, is a REALLY good movie. I just watched it for the second time because the first time I only half-watched it.

DiCaprio's acting is extraordinary, which is something I'd never given him credit for before this movie. Maybe I'll have to watch Titanic one of these days.

Other movies among the 30 or so that I've watched in the past month, and that I recommend (but not as highly as I recommend Revolutionary Road):
The Birdcage
40 Days and 40 Nights, 2002. Don't confuse this movie with the similarly named 40 Days and Nights, from 2012, which I haven't seen but don't need to, considering the reviews.
The Siege, 1998, Denzel Washington
Heck I Don't Remember The Half a Dozen or So Others That Were Pretty Good, Saturday Dec 10 2016, Bigbells.

And a couple that I'd seen before but were still enjoyable:
The Jackal, 1997, Bruce Willis, Sidney Poitier, Richard Gere. For those who occasionally enjoy some violence and gore.
Silence of the Lambs, more violence and gore.

I watch anything Denzel is in ...I'd watch if all he did was stand as still as a statue:D

We've been mobile only for about 10 years or more now. We started using them exclusively & had no calls on the land line other than telemarketers so it went away. Now we just don't answer #'s we don't recognize. If it's someone that needs to reach us they'll leave a voicemail. We did the same with the landline. We've found that if you answer one call, from one telemarketer it's like you get on a list & start getting more & more calls. If you stop answering unknown #'s the sales calls eventually stop. I had a hard yime getting Mom to stop answering every call, but she finally realizrd she was getting all the weird calls while I seldom get one. All it takes is answering 1 & suddenly there's no peace.

A small history lesson on the X and whether or not it takes the Christ out of Christmas.

Many many years ago - they did not have computers with gigabytes of data to work with so they could make their writings as long as they wanted.

They wrote with quill pens on scrolls since they also had not developed reams of endless paper available a local department store.

Since they had these limitations they started coming up with abbreviations to enable them to express more in their limited writings. They wanted them to be as complete as possible, but had to do so within their limitations.

Just as Gary noted - one such abbreviation was the X for the word Christ. From this was developed the word X-Mas vs Christmas.

But as the years went on and as with many other things in life this acceptable use of a word was twisted till X-Mas meant taking the Christ out of Christmas. Twisted by the people that did not know its origin and true meaning.

So, as far as it goes today - Does X-Mas mean taking Christ out of Christmas - depends upon who writes it... Actually it really does depend upon who writes it and how it is being used. There are many that use it with little thought about the twisting of the word... and do not consider the twist to the word that has occurred over the years...

Failed experiment: a while back, I shared a recipe for automatic dishwasher powder that I found on the www.

After using it for about 20 loads, my opinion is: Nah. I don't care that it's 1/3 the cost of Cascade pods, it just doesn't do the job nearly as well. Now I need to find other uses for the washing soda, Borax and Kosher salt. (I already had the citric acid powder, which is still the absolutely best cleaner for coffeemakers.)

As to leo...... if you haven't seen it, check out Catch Me If You Can.
I've seen that, and I liked it, but I thought DiCaprio overplayed his part. In my opinion he improved as an actor in between Catch Me If You Can (2002) and Revolutionary Road (2008).

Put the borax anywhere bugs may be a problem..inside or outside. I live in a condo...I dont trust I will always have clean neighbors so I put borax in my tiny attic
