Dylan won Nobel prize for literature

“From an early age, I've been familiar with and reading and absorbing the works of those who were deemed worthy of such a distinction: Kipling, Shaw, Thomas Mann, Pearl Buck, Albert Camus, Hemingway. These giants of literature whose works are taught in the schoolroom, housed in libraries around the world and spoken of in reverent tones have always made a deep impression. That I now join the names on such a list is truly beyond words.”

finally, something decent happened in this miserable year

The costs go way beyond alcoholism.

Tobacco Versus Alcohol: A Modern Double Standard

How many violent crimes were committed and lives ruined by lighting up?[/QU
That's because alcoholism is considered a disease and smoking is a choice. No need to investigate further...

Being a recovering, as the saying goes, alkie of many years ,and hearing that it's a disease at the meetings and everywhere else...well... This is my personal take on it...alcoholism is an addiction. My personal take on it...no desire to debate this....

Oh..and drinking alcohol is also a choice...and if one does it long enough it can become an addiction.

Don't try to find me...I got off my soapbox and now in hiding...

Oh my, as many, if not most o' my porch phamily may know, my heart/soul has been seekin' a 'new' phour legged phurry phriend. Considerin' our current life situation, I must await an undeniable 'message'/neon sign to make dat commitment!

Recently, I discovered a local animal shelter dat has an ingenious program: 60-6-6. For seniors over 60, dey can adopt an animal over 6 y.o. pher $6. Absolutely brilliant promo pher those on phixed incomes. In my case, da money is not an issue... but da program is nonetheless brilliant!

But, guess I'm somewhat over/underwhelmed and more concerned wid my bride's welfare. Regardless, if I'm to allow a pet adopt me, I'm more dan ready.

BTW, I do joyously 're-live' vicariously thru your pet postings...
Will watch da cine and shed tears. Sandy, thanx so much pher your preview!

Actually it really does depend upon who writes it and how it is being used. There are many that use it with little thought about the twisting of the word... and do not consider the twist to the word that has occurred over the years...
Jup! But most these days don't know that X was used for Christ, so I prefer the long hand version :)

Put the borax anywhere bugs may be a problem..inside or outside. I live in a condo...I dont trust I will always have clean neighbors so I put borax in my tiny attic
JUP! I always used it when living in apartments and it works great.

Today was kinda nostalgic for me. 2 years ago today my beloved Spock, multi breed and performance titled Maplerun's Trouble with Tribbles, traveled over the Rainbow Bridge peacefully, at home, naturally, with me at his side at the ripe age of 14 yrs, 7 months. Tasha and Geordi make it much easier, but I still miss my Spockey Doodle. :(

Sent from a dark, twisted corner of the back porch, covered in cobwebs and slightly damp.
lol too cute. love the purple harness of course.

If I'd never used the Cascade pods, I would never have had such high expectations. I have no wish to ever wander away from them again. I used Cascade Complete pods, but when I went to buy more, the Cascade Ultimate pods were about the same price on Amazon as the Cascade Complete, so I got the Ultimate. Both of them work awesomely well.

When I've used up my bottle of Jet-Dry, I do hope that distilled white vinegar works just as well as a rinse agent, because it's SO much cheaper than Jet-Dry. On the other hand, if white vinegar turns out to be disappointing, I'll be happy to pay for another 16 oz bottle of Jet-Dry. My current bottle has lasted through about 100 cycles so far and there are still about 3 ounces left.
I agree with the cascade pods being very good! But they are rough on anything aluminum. Dil buys the platinum ones I think it's called. I will let you know for certain on the vinegar. I've always used it, and been happy with it. Last load had some weird stuff on a couple glasses, ran them again, forgot to fill the thingy with vinegar. Now I've filled it so we'll see if the weird stuff is gone when I run the next load. Not really spots, sort of a 1 to 1.5 ring of spotty stuff near the top. Doesn't look like etching or spots really, but if it's gone after the next load, I'll know for sure that the vinegar is at least as good as Jet Dry

So, I take it dat my lil' (snicker) Kodak Brownie on a kite is a bit passe? Dat's not countin' da second string fer da shutter... regardless where da KB is aimed.
hehehe Hope you're at least using a box kite, so there is something stable? to set the camera on :D

(((((((((Legs)))))))) I know that was a rough game for you. I caught a little of it.

Wow just watched a really good flic. Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children. A must see.
I really wanna see that one, along with quite a few others. Wish I could find the list I'd made over a few years where I wrote down each movie I came across that I wanted to see.

At least they got some help from Miami,
yur welcome! hehehe

roflmao! I love this!

Thinking back on the idiotic things I did at that age, perhaps raising the age of majority to 21 isn't such a bad idea. ;)
A part of me loves the idea. Other parts don't. I do think the military itself would benefit from a higher enlistment age, but as you said, the military has helped sooooooo many 18 yr olds to grow up quick. Texas, and likely other states says that you can leave home at 17 and your parents can't stop you, but the parents are legally (financially) liable for you til you turn 18. That should absolutely change now, and parents shouldn't be responsible for kids til they're 21, so that would need to not be a thing before I'd go for raising the legal age.

In addition, we have the crusade of the ANTZ crowd going on about how expensive health care is because of smoking, yet there's nary a peep from anyone over the costs and repercussions of alcohol abuse. The costs of tobacco use pale in comparison when you start looking at the whole picture when dealing with alcohol. The huge difference here being the hypocrisy from those who crusade against tobacco use and at the end of the day, pop the tab on the six pack sitting in their fridge.
JUP!

Neighbor came over and used his snowblower on our driveway and side walk. Really nice of him
awwwww that was sweet, and the only part of the post I could like. I'm glad you've got him to look out for ya some. Or maybe a few folks. Is this the same guy who has shoveled your drive before? Jup those plow trucks are necessary, but they can sure mess up a couple hours work in a couple seconds.

Oh you dew. But 10 minutz later the memories start to fade and... voila! Instant stupid all over again.
lmao! So true.

Over 1.1 million Americans have died in support of our nation; not counting the wounded and MIAs. Here's a drink to them all!!!

Wring your hands, twiddle your thumbs and wonder where the enemy came from... <heavy sad sigh...>
JUP! <another heavy sad sigh>

Well I noticed something I had not seen before we went to Mickey D's for a quick burger and they have a sign in their drive thru window no smoking or vaping in your car while at the window. Gimme a break. Even the local news tonight had a blip about the evils of vaping amongst our youth.
Seems like someone mentioned that same thing awhile back........that's crazy. I will go most any place before I go to McDs anyhow, but even if I liked em, they would lose my business over that.

Welp, lets liven things up with something I just tripped across.

Really enjoyed that!

The Peacemaker. A movie with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman couldn't possibly be terrible, but this one tries very hard.
Nicole is a good actress, not a fan of Clooney, although I've like several movies he's been in, but yeah, that one I am pretty certain I just clicked off.

May I recommend a coming film for all those who love their canine family members ?....:)

thanks for posting this......hadn't heard of it, and I definitely want to see this!

Here's one I stumbled across after watching the space episode of Timeless. Comes out Christmas Day and is a great story.

My local Walgreens tried that re smoking once. I vaped. The next time I went the sign was gone. Most McDonalds are franchises, probably the owner/manager at that one. McD's doesn't have a policy about that.

No this is the neighbor who had his neck rebuilt. He's not even supposed to be doing that kind of thing. We took him some snickerdoodles yesterday to his store. He owns the local auto parts store. He's having a hard time coming back from this surgery. It's been about 8 or 9 months now. I think they had to fuse almost every vertebra in his neck. His right arm is better but his left is still bad.

Oh boy was 3 degrees when we got up got up to 14 heading for 3 again tonight.

My sympathy, except it's coming my way. LOL. Our forecast for Thurs. is a high of 25 and low of 3 followed by a high of 17 on Friday. Wish I could work from home for a couple of days but unfortunately there are management meetings scheduled and I can't duck out of 'em. bummer.

On a positive note, shrimp & grits for dinner was yummy. Now chillin' with a vape, the cat is stretched out and napping on my legs while the hubby is cleaning the kitchen. Some days it's nice to take time and appreciate the simple things.
