The guy that had to use a cane he was in charge of the staff of Downton Abbey.

That would be the butler, not the valet. :)

Mr. Carson was the head Butler, in charge of the staff.

Bates was the Earl's butler, with the cane.

Newp........there is only the butler and under butler. Bates was the Earl's valet. Trying to remember but I think he was either under butler for awhile or was going to be until Thomas whats his face came along

Hey legs........since you like downton and have amazon prime....if you have a smart tv or a roku, go to the amazon channel. Check out upstairs downstairs. And you also might like Larkrise to Candleford. It also has Brendan Coyle in it who played Bates in Downton.

Putting this here in response to a front porch discussion of Grand Canyon which probably belongs back here.

THe hubby and I went a few years ago and it actually was a good time. We did the GRand Canyon railway package. Vacation Packages, Train Tickets & Hotel | Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel, Arizona

For a really reasonable amount of money we got a very nice breakfast, A bit of a wild west show and strolling musicians on the platform before boarding the train. THe musicians came with us on the train which was a very comfortable setup (and fully wheel chair accessible). A bit of a snack on board. Upon arriving we got a guided bus tour. Stopped for a lovely buffet lunch (with workers more than willing to help me handle 2 trays (so I could get the hubbys and my food without waiting through the line twice). Then back out to the canyon for more guided tour. Lots of stops at overlooks and lots of history of the canyon. Then back onto the train with the musicians where a nice snack/drinks are served. About midway back bandits ride up on horseback and (mock) rob the train. All in all it was about a 12 hour day and an absolute blast worth every penny. One bit of advice there are other hotels very close to the railroad one so you can buy tickets for the railroad adventure and save some money on the accommodations over the railroad hotel. I was VERY impressed how they handled the hubbys chair. They made it as painless as possible and at no point was he treated in a less than dignified manner.

Now we stayed out there 3 nights because from there you are a very short drive from both meteor crater which is fascinating and they have some wonderful science type stuff and tie ins to the apollo program and the Painted desert which is enormous and beautiful. MANY walking and driving trails through it.

SO in my book Grand Canyon is well worth doing and folks should consider it again.

Now that sounds really kewl! But I would have to have a scooter to do all that. Nice to know that sort of thing is accommodated, without the person feeling like a burden. Mostly I hear folks say.....I walked to the edge.....looked at the big hole, said jup, that's nice, and left. lol

Damn I just got a phone call from Donald J. Trump and didn't get to the phone fast enough. Damn I got a message to call him back. Guess I better do it he might want to go out cruisin chicks tonight..
Call him quick. Maybe he's ready to dump Pence and wants you to be VP!! hehehe
