Good morn all!

So...before I push the "buy" button I'd like to ask for some input as to getting rid of cable....

Here's the background...I have a Roku stick for the tv in the spare bedroom, my new Smart tv has Netflix, Amazon Prime, Vudu and Youtube built in. And I'm considering getting an indoor antennae...is that all enough to get rid of cable?

Well, so far Friday the 13th is not a good day in my neck of the woods, car was covered in ice when the dogs and I went out this morning. Forecast calls for more freezing rain today and tomorrow, about a 1/2" expected here. Already got my phone, tablet, laptop, batts, and mods charged, enough propane to keep the fireplace going, and gas for the generator for a few days, if needed.
Hopefully we won't lose power before it's all said and done.

Already checked that out for my area...signal is very weak...I'm thinking more along the lines of a small indoor one. It's a square flat one that will even attach to a window.
They kinda work and they kinda don't work. Around $20 at amazon. Amplified. I use them for local channels. (we don't get local channels here. No such aminul) They seem to drift now and then. One would assume weather wouldn't be a factor but seems it is. Dunno

If the signal shows as weak that probably won't cut it. Might actually need an outdoor antenna. :(

I agree with Willie. Make sure your indoor antenna works well for locals. Hook your TV to internet with ethernet cable. You will only be able to watch what is available with Netflix and Amazon which is a lot. I believe Vudu is a paid sevice also. I have cut my Dish to Locals only with some other crap stations but I still keep it because out here I would need an outdoor HD antenna possibly amplified. I am not sure Vudu shows much that Netflix and Amazon doesn't have also. I also have a SkyStream android box and an excellent internet connection they put together for me with 2 DSL lines coming into it at 20Mbps the modem joins the 2 giving me 40 Mbps with incredible bandwidth making it so I can watch nearly everything through the android box including Netflix in 4k which they added an update to allow you to do that but your smart tv will also do that. I very rarely get buffering even on 1080 5.1 streams. I have a dedicated line into my modem that only goes to the modem. It's a lot to understand and I have to go become bionic but maybe some can help. Netflix and Amzxon will work with slower connections but you will have a data cap more then likely. I tried to make this as complicated as I could just for you. Ha Ha. If you keep the most inexpensive cable pack with the locals with Netflix and Amazon you'll have more tv then you have time to watch. With Kodi it's a little more complicated. You'll never get buffering with Netflix and Amazon but watch your data cap. I don't have one but it cost me. I also was able to get a special Dish pack because I have been with them for 20+ years which only costs me $25 a month but I get my locals in HD. Like I say Kodi is great but there is a learning curve. and you won't get Netflix in 4 K on any other android box but I don't use it for that I have it on my TV.

Also the free version of Pandora is probably available to you with you tv which is good for music with a commercial occasionally. As far as Kodi goes with any box other then SkyStream you will be always having problems with updates and other stuff. The SS people are constantly updating their equipments firmware and addons which makes it pretty easy but still has a learning curve. The nice part is if you screw it up call customer support and they will go into your box and fix everything you screwed up.

If you're thinking about the MOHU Leaf, or others of that style I would not bother .. they only work well when you're relatively close to a signal .. AntennaWeb.org is relatively accurate in it's predictions .. as well, there is a good social group on Google that deals with cutting the cord ..

I'll leave early, break out the chilled box wine and "other" libations and make some Home Made Chili .. it's Willie's Chili .. and yes, I do use beans .. ;) .. and if in the mood, a bottom layer of Fritos .. :)

Yeah that and I hate asking people for help. Something I've always hated and it makes me so damned mad at myself that I can't just do it myself. That's what really gets me down.

So here comes the lecture part......you must let people do for you! When you do, you give them a gift of being useful, and they give you the gift of real help that you need. Accepting help is a true win-win situation. So don't be embarrassed, too proud, too independent to accept help when it is offered. Just learn to say thanks, I really appreciated your help, and no I couldn't have done it without you!

Well said!

The last time I thought I could do something I really shouldn't have tried, two nights in da hospital. A lil' help trumps mucho pain!

Prior to digital switching, electromagnetic stepper switches were used to obtain the phone number you were dialing.

Oh how I hated those! They were used to 'program' our many palletizer patterns. It wouldn't had been so bad if we had had ample spare boxes, but alas. Therefore we had to rebuild them with cannibalized and/or repaired/rehabbed parts; countless tedious hours wafer indexing and contact burnishing...

Thankfully, in time, we finally got PLCs (programmable logic controllers)!

Kay, if weak signals, then I would highly recommend an outdoor amplified HD antenna at, at least, roof level.

My indoor HD antenna panel is not sufficient to pull in all the major OTA channels. Just my .02 FRNs...

Since you intend to retain broadband for your access, you may find this site helpful. I didn't install all of the options. But found it great for obtaining both movies and TV shows. Just another tool in the toolbox to consider.

My attempt to cut the cord has so far been unsuccessful due to the fact that I haven't gotten my OTA digital antenna to work {bought a cheap one} and I can't live without some broadcast material. Besides, I can't do without my cable broadband and Comcast told me wouldn't save all that much if I kept it while canceling their TV.

What irks me the most about cable TV is that I pay for a few hundred channels, and have zero interest in 95% of them. Out of the 5% remaining, 50% are only viewed on occasion. And why the hell does a person with absolutely no interest in sports have to pay $36 a year for state sports programming.

Hate that commercial because I think the poem stinks.
Speaking of hating commercials and if I see this one more time, I'll scream....well, there are a few.
'Brad' for the insurance company....wonder if he is stuffed in the trunk of the totaled car.

The 'My Pillow' commercial; Marco Polo with those kids screaming in the pool!!! Any of the ASPCA commercials for abused animals......I have to quickly change the channel.

Oh, and that pourable rubber stuff that will seal just about anything except his mouth!

The copper pot......oh pulezze....stop it! Gosh and to think that when I first saw that, I was actually tempted!

Flo, you are fired! Turn your white smock in!!
