Well, some not so great news for us this week. My wife Julie has found it impossible to get past a job interview for over 2 years now and loved ones have noticed her slipping mentally for some time now. She has been in total denial, of course, and only with carefully worded prodding were we able to get her to agree to an evaluation.
After a 4 month wait for her appointment she underwent a 5hr. mental eval at UAMS in Little Rock and has been diagnosed with MCI (mild cognitive impairment). I'm not so sure I would call it mild, she can't even count change or perform simple arithmetic. She is also unable to answer questions during interviews related to SAS, a software program she has been using for over 25 years. Forgetting things we discussed in the morning by lunch time is now the new norm.
She is, and has always been a worrier and apparently MCI can be brought on by stress, so they prescribed Zoloft, which she determined she had no use for after 2 weeks of feeling groggy.
We don't know what to do at this point other than pray that God's will be done so if you prayer warriors out there would send some our way we would be grateful.
Oh cig, I am so sorry to read this. I agree with others that she needs to let the Dr know Zoloft didn't agree with her. There must be something else that will help her.

Warmest hugs, strength and healing vibes coming your way.

I didn't need an antidepressant, I needed an anxiety something. It makes me really sleepy so I take it at night. It built up in my system & I do well during the day now. Occasional attacks, but I have another one to take then. It makes me drowsy at first, but it wears off quickly h I can continue with my day.
Depression only runs in my family because anxiety does. Anxiety leads to depression.

Sending prayers !

She'll find her way...she sounds like a strong woman !
Theres a lot of factors besides the worst that could be causing it but it doesn't sound like the place you went to has the answers. Now to find someplace that does.

I'm glad that's working so well for you. I hope we find something that works for Julie as well.
I'm normally a very stoic person when it comes to life's bumps in the road but when I see this effecting her emotionally it hurts me deeply. She so wants to be a contributor to the household income, as she has been for 30yrs., but being unable to has brought my funny, happy, sharp witted life partner and soul mate to a very dark place.:(
She'll come out of it, she just has to.:)
It's a huge shock at first & can be difficult to wrap uour head around. Not just the illness, but the sudden realization that working may no longer be an option or a dramatic career change is in order. I was not prepared at all to retire. To me, I knew that the RA would reach the point tjat I would have to retire. The RA isn't what got me tho. It was something I had no clue was going on. Very catistrophic when added on top of the RA. So overnight, I was retired. It took a year to get past the illness, surgeries, & recoveries while trying to comprehend that work wasn't an option anymore. Mine is mostly physical. She might be able to find meds that work well enough that she could return to a job of some sort. A job of somekind would be good mental exercize, too.

We'll see what the Doc says at her upcoming appointment at UAMS, they did just earn an $11.8 million grant for continued research in neurophycological studies.

There is the Mayo clinic which I believe has one in Arizona.

Kind of a long way from us here in Arkansas but the Mayo Clinic does have an excellent reputation too.

I watched my Dad progress, beginning with MCI .. it's a tough scenario to deal with .. Hope can never be lost ..

Although I don't like to offer advice or commentary on issues of this sort, since all people are different, you might consider looking into a low dose Clonazepam 1/2 - 1mg, just before bedtime .. in my case, although I don't suffer from MCI as of yet (there are those that would dispute that .. ;)) .. it provides a good sleep and takes the edge off the next day .. I am a worrier as well as a bit paranoid o_O .. my DR scripted about 9 years ago when my business began to take major financial hits due to the Recession ..

Just my :2c: .. good luck to you both .. Positive Thoughts being Beamed South ..

It is also one of the serious side effects of Zoloft. I don't mean to .... in but there are a lot of things that can cause this.

Please do feel free to offer whatever info you have, it's all welcome. Thanks for the Mayo links.

@Kenna have you ever taken methotrexate? Ginny got put on it and has to take 4 in the morning and 4 at night one day a week and it's made her feel like not even getting out of her chair and tired all the time. She is starting to snap out of it today. Took her first dose on Wednesday.

Wow.......pulled a food processor out of the closet that my dil had, but had never been outta the box. Am making coleslaw and mac and cheese for our church supper tomorrow. I like my coleslaw really little like KFC does theirs. It did that, but omggggg took forever.....couldn't put hardly anything in the bowl. Kept having to stop and pull bigger pieces out so the rest didn't turn to soup. I'm worn out and there is a huge cabbage mess in the kitchen! lol

You do have a good point, but with all the things he listed, it's unlikely that it's all caused by something else.

Hope she's finally adjusting to it and will feel better now

We don't know what to do at this point other than pray that God's will be done so if you prayer warriors out there would send some our way we would be grateful.

First off, of course we'll 'provide' what help/support we can muster. Besides, prayers are free and boundless; just takes a lil' Love to launch!

Any chance you could use humor (dry or otherwise) to re-spark her wit and 'distract' her during the 'down' times?

Also, don't forget your own well-being!

I've notice that about the porchers, great peeps and sincerely interested in the well being of others. It's a revealing of God's character I think.
I rarely tell people about my personal problems and then only to my 2 close friends, never family. To post what I did about Julie is a real big stretch for me and I'm so glad I've found you all here to be so supportive.:)

And we're so glad ya 'found' us!

Considering our demographics here, it's a rare day when a porcher shares an issue dat hasn't been endured by at least one other porcher. Such support can be a built-in blessing...

Steve has gall stone surgery Wednesday.

Note to self: Add Steve to PL!

I had a lot of fun babysitting her 4 year old. That little guy is now a Sgt in the Marine Corp.

Great story!

Gee its fun getting old. Watching Game o Thrones from the beginning and don't remember it so fart.

Saw what ya did dere...

So sorry Cig and of course, prayers yours and Julie's way. I take Cymbalta, for over a year now. Before that it was back and forth with Prozac and many in between. Zoloft, Effexor, Wellbutrin and Celexa. Prozac worked best so I kept going back to it but after a time it stopped working. My problem is lifelong inherited depression (real mom killed herself) and now fibromyalgia. some of the anti-depressants help with the fibro. They all have side effects it seems. You just have to settle for which side effects you can tolerate and then get used to it.
I am hearing great things about Magnesium and cognitive help.
Lol! Cymbalta is one I tried. It is a "mood elevator". It evelated my mood so much that on the third day I couldn't stop laughing. Had to leave work because I couldn't talk to the customers. I pet sit for my friend, who was my boss at the time. We still laugh about that day. I literally opemed the door of her office & fell in. I couldnct stop laughing to tell her what was going on so I signaled I needed my purse & she called another girl to bring my purse. I handed her to pill bottle & dug for a tissue. There were tears & snot everywhere. She helped me get home, too. I couldn't even drive.

Thanks for the info Willie, much appreciated.
One of the biggest obstacles in getting Julie to agree to RX meds for anxiety or depression is her career field. With 30yrs. in pharma drug testing and R&D for these very drugs narrows the window of whats acceptable for to her to take in her mind. Add to that our wholistic lifestyle and ......well you get it, this will be a long row to hoe.
