I got my candy delivered today - along with my giant syringes and needles. The combination was totally coincidental, but the order did look a little odd.
It's hard and slow for me to get out of my chair and across the room to the door, so I set up a little table in the entry with my big bowl of candy and planned to just holler "come in" when the doorbell rang.
I was all set up, I had 2 total kids stop by - but of course there are only about 10 in the town. I imagine the others either got driven to where there are more houses to go to and/or went to school or church parties.
Now what can I do with all that extra candy?
The best solution I ever saw for rural kids was when we were living in the country in southern Minnesota. The church down the road from us set up for tailgate trick or treating. Everyone in the area, not just church members, was invited, All the families with kids (or who just liked giving out candy) would drive to the church parking lot, and hand out treats from their trunk or tailgate. All the kids got their candy and could show off their costumes, and the adults got to see the costumes and sit around and socialize. The years the weather was too bad out they could move into the meeting room in the church basement.
Hope it went well for you. I have balance problems, so even with my carefully selected garbage can with wheels that can function as a walker, I have trouble getting it out Sunday nights. Some weeks I just can't make it out there. Usually the county housekeeper that comes on Mondays brings it back in for me. I managed to get it out Sunday night, but she was sick today, and today was a bad day for me to bring it back in. Even in a tiny, tiny town I wasn't happy about leaving it out on the curb, but life happens.
