Well bad news, our SIL who was so sick with cancer passed away today. She was in a Hospice and Ginnys brother went down to be with his Brother on Sunday so he is there to be there for Mick also Ginnys brother. Caroline was a really nice lady and at least her suffering is over.
So sorry to hear this. I will put you and your family on my prayer list.
Pat,

Seriously, before you make your decision, please visit a reputable dealer/instructor prior to purchasing any concealed carry weapon!

I could possibly assist in your decision, but not here on da porch. Ergo, my above suggestion.

I'll just say dat I'm totally committed to da 2nd Amendment (sans da ol' militia interpretation) and will never buy a concealed carry permit. It may be an ol' cliche, but I'd much rather be judged by twelve vs. carried by six!
Amen!

Here it is again WITH the chocolate added in. BTW I thought I would also like to post about Xylitol which is an "artificial sweetener found in products such as gum and candy. Within 30 minutes after eating, the dog may vomit, be lethargic, and/or be uncoordinated. However, some signs of toxicity can also be delayed for hours or even for a few days. Xylitol toxicity in dogs can be fatal if untreated. It is unknown whether xylitol is toxic to cats."

At my clinic we had 2-3 dogs through the years that had eaten Trident Gum that contains Xylitol. Luckily all the owners caught it fast and the dogs were saved.
Isn't it in some peanut butters also?

I also have a little handgun, locked and loaded. One time long ago when my home was broken into while i was at work on the night shift and I called the police when I got home and saw so much stuff stolen, during the conversation with one of them that came to my home he told me to get a gun and if i had to shoot just outside my door, to drag him at least inside before i called, the police ,then it'd be self-defense:D
That advice could turn out very badly. Tampering with evidence can have its own consequences and might even taken as an indication of guilt. Police officers are often a poor source of legal advice

Since we've renovated da porch again, paid proper respect to and love for our past members and have shared cherished memories, I'd like to recognize a very special person that has supported us in special ways, our classy classwife!
We luv and thank you, Cindy!

Amen!!

Looks like the rules have changed in my neck of the woods:

Starting Jan. 1, Missouri gun owners will be able to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. Senate Bill 656 will also allow use of deadly force against trespassers on one's own private property as long as a person "reasonably believes" shooting is "necessary to protect himself, or herself or her unborn child, or another against death, serious physical injury, or any forcible felony." The law also "provides that a person does not have a duty to retreat from any place such person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity has a right to be."
That's so vague, it's liable to cause them issues in the future.

I decided on the disguiser

Sent from a dark, twisted corner of the back porch, covered in cobwebs and slightly damp.
kewl, hope you love it!

even looked that one up and still dunno what it stands for.

((((((((pat and ginny))))))))) Glad her pain is over, but y'alls has intensified. Prayers that y'all can move through your grief quickly

I'm on my way to bed now, but I wanted to leave you with something to mess you up...hang in there till about 14:05 into it....

Watched that a long time ago. It was inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time. Pretty sure he died 4 months after June. He truly couldn't live without her. They had a rocky time of it, but such a true love. She stuck with him through so much, and literally saved his life.

As long as these are not plastic and sitting on my lawn, I can appreciate them!
I've not seen them in real life, but would love to. On video they are gorgeous graceful animals.

Happy birthaversary to @garyoa1 !

1,000 years!! and I doubt it will happen even then :p

What follows is a copy paste of an email I sent a friend that was questioning my vaping. I am posting it in the hopes that parts of it might be useful to you should you find yourself in the same postion. Only redacted stuff is identifying info.
---------------------------
ok I am going to take a stab at the promised ecig info. I am going to start with my own take on it and at the end leave you with a link to a history of ecigs that has a chronology and a great many links to documentation.

Ecigs at their core are a battery that powers a wire core which vaporizes eliquid that is in a wicking material. They come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, efficiencies, wire and wick compositions. The small devices that resemble traditional cigarettes are the least efficient at delivering vapor (from personal experience.

The liquid is a mixture of liquid nicotine, food flavorings in a base that consists of Propelene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerine (VF). PG and VG have been used as carriers in Asthma Inhalers for decades and are considered Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) by the government.

Food flavoring are considered safe for ingestion but have overall not been evaluated for inhalation. Some flavoring companies are doing these tests now. Advanced Vapers often make their own liquid in order to be certain that the liquid they use is flavored with tested safe flavors (this would be me) and the majority of US eliquid manufacturers are doing the same. There is a legitimate concern over liquids containing Diacetyl or Acetoin in the flavorings as those at high concentrations have been shown to cause Popcorn Lung. This is a devastation disease first recognized in the employees of a microwave popcorn plant. GRAS levels for exposure to these chemicals for workers have been established by the government. Both eliquids and regular cigarettes for that matter are FAR below the GRAS level set.

Nicotine is not the devil the media has made it out to be. Studies have been coming out over the last decade that suggest it is no more addictive than Caffeine which is a related chemical. From personal experience and observation of other vapers, reducing and eliminating Nicotine usage by vaping is relatively painless and produces few withdrawal symptoms. It is likely the horrid Cigarette withdrawals people experience are due to some of the 4000+ other chemicals in regular cigs.It has also proven effective in the treatment of Alzheimes and Parkinsons.

Many of the early studies that are often trotted out to prove ecigaretts are bad were just flat bad science. If you look at the methodology they used ineffective cigarette mimicking devices and those devices were often improperly used. By this I mean the machine continued to fire the devices long after the liquid in the cartridge has been consumed thus burning the wicking material. Of course you are going to see some nasty chemicals like formaldehyde as a result. You are burning something. The way we know this is as people that have used these devices can attest, you only get so many puffs out of one before the liquid is consumed. The number of puffs tested well exceeded this amount. No person would continue to puff on something once the harsh nasty burnt began to appear. A machine cannot tell the difference. It is a case of the study designers not really understand how what they were testing works (or possibly having an ulterior agenda).

ECigs were attacked early and often by Anti Nicotine and Tobacco Zealots (we call them ANTZ) frankly because they look like smoking. To these people if it looks like smoking it is smoking. These are the sorts of people that see you vaping across the street and start waving their hand in the air and faking a cough (no joke I have had this happen). I actually was in my car once with the windows up and the guy in the next car (also with his windows up) started doing the wave hand fake cough thing. It was hilarious. Unfortunately because of the anti smoking campaigns of the last 30 years these types of people dominate the media, the CDC, the FDA and many local governments. They really are not interested in the concept that a device has come along that is actually effective in helping people get off regular cigs. It looks like smoking so it is smoking and must be eradicated.

Now we go to the next part of the fustercluck from the government towards ecigs. The FDA tried to shut down ecigs calling them an unregulated drug delivery device. Follow the money on that one. Who stands to loose? Big Pharamceutical. What is the background of the top people at the FDA? Big Pharma. Big Pharma has smokers by the short curlys coming and going. They make money on the ineffective pills. patches, Lozenges, gums to quit smoking and if someone does not they make even bigger money on cancer drugs. They do not want an effective method to quit out there. It is not in their best interest. So they push and an attempt to nip us in the bud happens. Unfortunately they lost the court case.

Now the FDA is going after us as a tobacco product. The problem is they are trying to force us into a framework designed before ecigs really existed on the US market. That framework established a specific date which would grandfather existing tobacco products. That date is prior to virtually all ecigs existing in this country. So Big tobacco keeps their deadly cigarettes while a safer technology (ecigs) get eliminated. The only give room for new technologies in the regulation is to go through a ridiculous PMTA process with the FDA. By ridiculous it is estimated that every small part of an ecig would have to have a seperate PMTA which total costs for that one small part would be in the millions of dollars. Oh and btw since the rule has gone into effect only one tobacco product has passed the PMTA process and that is with 20 years of scientific studies backing it (Sweedish SNUS).

This past spring Ecigs have officially been deemed tobacco products. Most vapers have no problems with the 18+ age restrictions or the childproof packaging. We have no problems with the restrictions on advertising. What we have a problem with is that grandfather date. Unless we can get that changed all vaping products will be off the market in 2 years. God knows few will be able to afford to even try the PMTA process and even if they did the FDA could reject them out of hand without really considering the studies presented as they are not required to justify their ruling.

Meanwhile more and more studies are coming out showing that ecigs are a safer more effective option.

Historical Timeline of Electronic Cigarettes - CASAA

I am very much in the fight to keep these life saving devices available and legal.

My story.

I smoked since I was 15. Yeah I was dumb but it is what it is. I proceeded to spend the next 33 years trying to quit. I tried cold turkey, pills, patches, gums, lozenges, electroshock, hypnotism and acupuncture. NOTHING worked. I tried over and over and over. My Doctor called me a permanent quitter.

I found ecigs 4 years ago and from the day I took my first puff I have not touched a tobacco cigarette. The quit was instant. The withdrawals minimal. It was the act of inhaling and exhaling the vapor that made the difference. The nicotine addiction withdrawal was minimal. BTW even though I still vape my tested lung capacity now is the same as someone who never smoked.

Now I am looking at the removal of the availability of something that is very important to me and my health. I will not go back to traditional cigs. Nor will I support Big Pharma by using their products to stop smoking and get nicotine. BTW did you know Chantix started life as a Depression drug?

I will survive what is coming. I saw it coming 4 years ago and began stockpiling devices and liquid nicotine (has an indefinite shelf life in a freezer). I have enough to last my natural lifetime. I make my own liquids. If push came to shove I know how to make my own devices. I will be fine.

The people I am fighting for now are those that will never have a chance at an effective method to get off cigs.

There is a public smear campaign going on against ecigs. They like to haul out the "For the children" argument. There is one documented case of nicotine poisoning from a todler getting ahole of a bottle of high strength eliquid a parent left on a table with the cap off. How many kids have been poisoned by tide Pods? Slanted PR there.

The exploding ecig thing. In the 4 years I have been involved with this I know of about 20 incidents. All but 2 on close examination involved someone using the device improperly or charging it improperly. Ecigs use the same batteries as good flashlights, laptops and cell phones. Any battery you abuse has the potential to explode. Samsung can attest to that. People are not going to give up their cell phones but "OMG those DANGEROUS ecigs."

"OMG Flavors! We gotta save the children." SO sorry but adults like flavors too. Do you suddenly start hating strawberry when you turn 18? Get real.

Well now you have dealt with (me) in full rant mode. Still Like me?
Excellent!!! One thing I tell folks when they say vaping looks like smoking is....... Swimming can often look like drowning......but in one you live and one you die.

@Janet H and anyone else who is interested here is the list of the most common foods and plants poisonous to pets. I posted it in PDF so you can download it and save it to your computer and/or print it.

CAUTION: For some reason chocolate vanished from the list. I reposted the corrected list along with some additional info on page 13.
Great thanks! We got the chocolate on it now, but I noticed the first one included nuts, and the 2nd one didn't. I have looked up various nuts before, like almonds, and it just said, don't give them a lot of them as it can cause digestion issues. But today I found an article that said even if a nut isn't toxic (and macademias are highly toxic, just a few can kill a dog), that most nuts have too much fat in them for dogs to metabolize, and it can cause pancreatitis, so best to just avoid nuts and nut butters altogether. What do you think of that? They also linked it to other nuts as a reminder to spay and neuter dogs lol

Where are you finding all these cute emoticons?
I swipe a lot of em, but have found them at various sites also. I think I've got close to 1500 in my PB and another 700 in a folder that need to be put in there. You're welcome to peruse. Others have said they weren't listed right in the link, but they are when I link them. You may have to right click open one in a new window. Then right click and click save as.

Do think I energized Deba in da past to far surpass my lil' collection, so ya might want to check her source!
Jup you and others. I've wanted to do them from the time I got on ECF, but even though I'd asked in a lot of places, it took a long time before someone showed me how to do them in a way I understood. Thanks Rat! :)

Nice! Not so much the 4 grand price tag.

I had the perfect gun it was a Walther 380 PPKS
Dated a guy that had a Walther PPK really nice gun

Of course I don't keep up on current events very much but Jacob is a TACP which is the next step up from which means he is part of the JTAC community. He was a JTAC then got his TACP certification so he is a JTAC.
Prayers continue for all y'all. I know as several do, what it is to have a youngin deployed.

Well I watched the Debate again and I still don't know who's lying and who's telling the truth.
Easy........they're both lying!

Picture yourself breaking in to a house, creeping through the dark rooms, when suddenly you hear a blood curdling war cry, you turn and see a 6ft 280lb half Comanche half Viking man in his underwear rushing at you swinging this:
hehehe Love it! Want me to bead part of the the shaft for ya??

well Iffy beat me to it. I was going to say after having shat his britches.

Good morning!

Love this!!! I miss the ocean sooooooo bad. Was so wonderful being in Florida. So grateful it happened and that I got to be part of it. Mostly to meet my porch family of course, but also to get some salt on my skin and sand tween my toes.

I'd looked that up bout a month ago, and most of the ones I found that use it, are more of the fancier ones that claim to be healthier and more natural.

whatever...if it happens, I'm doing it....
No need anymore. Michigan has a stand your ground law.
What is Michigan's "Stand Your Ground" Law? Hiya sweetie!!!

@Debadoo I swear there is a little grinch in my PC rearranging my documents. Yes, nuts was in the document too. Arghhh

.

And yes macademia nuts are poisonous. We had a dog brought in once that was seizuring and we traced back to macademia nuts. I dont know about other nuts but I heard one of the vets with whom I worked tell a client thst it's best to not give dogs any nuts.

Anyone dat hits da Tampa Bay area, visit Busch Gardens to view 'em. If I recall correctly, Orlando's Sea World also has 'em.
