Any votes for Google Home Mini or Amazon Dot? I'm thinking of getting one or the other.

Dave,

My Amazon 'smart' hardware venture started with the Fire TV Stick (have three). So I went with the Echo Dot (have three). BTW, I've had no issues with my android Samsung c-phone being compatible.

I'm pretty sure Siri is less capable for my uses than either Alexa or Google Assistant. Siri fits into the same category as Cortana. I'm a Windows guy, so I like Cortana better. I have my Windows computers and my Android devices synced with each other.

Since Google Assistant has no name, I'm going to call her Georgia, based on the acronym.

I do enjoy having my phone in my pocket and being able to talk handsfree on the phone while driving, since the phone connects automatically to my new vehicle's audio system. Now if I can only figure out how to get my Garmin GPS in on the act... I think it might be possible but if it is I haven't figured it out yet. It would be awesome to understand every electronic device that I use... cameras, phone, computers, GPS, routers, wi-fi, satellite receivers, streaming devices etc. The list seems endless.

I like the Dot (I have four and might get more), but then I am a serious Amazon customer and I have no Android devices.

If you have Android devices, that would be an argument for the Home Mini since GooglePlay is a (the?) source for Android apps.

If you have iPhones and iPads, you could go with the Dot, but it's not so essential as with the Android/Google/GooglePlay constellation. Of course with the Dot and iPxxx pairing you have two voice assistants: "Alexa..." and "Hey, Siri..." which doubles your chances of false triggering by normal conversation, with sometimes amusing consequences.

I might have to get a Google Home Mini, just to make my collection of voice assistants complete.

For more than you ever wanted to know, Google for [ amazon dot vs google home mini ]. Lots of arguments pro and con for either.

Edit: Here is an interesting side-by-side comparison of the capabilities of all three for their strengths and weaknesses as voice assistants: Alexa vs. Google Assistant vs. Siri: Google Widens Its Lead (except recent changes show Alexa improving - this is a moving target since all three add new capabilities every few days).
I love my Dots. Got it set so I can thank Alexa after and she always comes back with something. So glad Iffy turned me on to them.

Forgot how long these first day of Chemo is. We’ve been there for 2 hours and she’s just starting the first bag at 3 so 2 more hours. Forgot about the anti nausea and Steroids she gets before the poison. Only on the first day. She’ll be done at 5 our time. So I decided to go for a ride. Sorting in some shade in the Albertsons parking lot vaping listening to Pink Floyd too loud like I like. The live Pulse album which for me is their best having a Perrier.

Don’t get any better than this IMO. brought 5 set ups with me so switching off. Have to leave car running it’s 98 out. I don’t like to do that to the car but can’t take the heat. Have to go pick up some Rx’s they called in.

Thinking about making a trip to the other side if she feels up to it in a week or so if she feels up to it. She’s afraid this time might be worse then the previous 2. Just have to wait and see. Hoping for the best.

Hope it goes smoothly for her, Legs!

Today marks my 4th Vaperversary! I am still delighted the transition was so easy, stuck, & yes, I intend to celebrate every year! No new shines for the second year in a row. I simply can't think of anything I want or need vape wise.

When Colonial Penn first started selling life insurance on TV (a zillion years ago, give or take), the mechanics of the sales gimmick was not immediately apparent to me. Once I figured it out, I put Colonial Penn in a special Sleazier Than The Rest category. A few years back Liberty Mutual displayed sufficient credentials to join Colonial Penn in that category.

It is not easy to distinguish yourself as an insurance company that has less integrity than other insurance companies. Congrats to Colonial Penn and Liberty Mutual. Upon nomination, other insurance companies will be considered for inclusion.

Congrats!

Hey, a new shiny doesn't have to be vape gear ... you can always buy 'anything' with the money you've saved to celebrate.
