Modern mice and trackballs usually don't have rollers. They just have hard steel balls (about the size of a pinhead) that the ball skids on. In older mice, the rollers were not so much for support but to drive encoder disks (to tell which way the ball was turning on that axis). I can't think of any modern pointer devices that don't use optical sensing of the ball motion (if there is a ball at all); this is why the ball itself has a pattern of dots all over. Fully optical mice just track the relative motion of the mouse over the mousepad or tabletop. (They don't work well on featureless surfaces.)

I've been using a Logitech M570 trackball for over a year and still can't get used to the location of the trackball and the buttons. For me, it's a very awkward design
You know what Bells, I'd probably have the same problem with the ball in the middle, I've been using one of these trackballs for at least 2-3 years, I'm on my 3rd or 4th one. I'm sure it would feel foreign to use the Kensington I'm so used to this.

Well don't remember if I told you guys but the verdict is in. When Ginny blacked out for a sec and fell in the bathroom she broke a bone on the side of her ankle. So the doc wrote her a Rx for a high boot gizmo, I'm sure you know what I mean. The place she sent her to to get it took 3 days to be able to get the paperwork done so we finally got it today. Well they didn't know their .... from a hole in the ground about how to use it and of course it is Friday. The place is going out of business tomorrow so she is going to have to make do until Monday. The doc figgered they would know. We should've gone to where I get my prosthetics because it is an orthotic and they handle them. Somebody there would have been able to put it on right. So now we have to be careful that she doesn't fall again and break something else. I tell ya if it wasn't for bad luck well you know the rest.

Why is it these kinds of things always happen on a Friday???

Best to Ginny. I feel her pain, literally! I fell a week ago Thursday, on the last day of my vacation and thought I'd sprained my ankle. I set up an appointment with my doc on Fri afternoon. An x-ray showed I'd broken the bone on the lower right side of my ankle. I was lucky and the orthopedic office could fit me in if I got right over (4pm before the long weekend). They put me in a boot and I'm on 6 weeks of no weight bearing.

FWIW - I ordered extra of the socks from Amazon. I also saw a suggestion of using Febreze in the boot. Given I'm wearing it 24/7 at this point, it needs it!

@Diver9543 are you still creating beautiful things out of wood? Pics please if you have
The weather hasn't been good recently. At temps above 95º, I find it too hot to work in my workshop. We have had cooler weather this past week, however, it has been wet. My body doesn't do too well with the damp weather. I know, excuses, excuses, excuses. LOL

An x-ray showed I'd broken the bone on the lower right side of my ankle.
When I was doing training in Central California, we were given the option of playing half-court basketball or going on a 3-mile fun run. There isn't much fun in a 3-mile run but I voted to do the run. I'm not that good at organized sports. Hence, the reason for voting for the run. Since I was the only who wanted to run so half-court basketball was chosen. During the game, I was hit and came down wrong which resulted in breaking the small bone on the left side of my left foot. I was in a boot cast for 6 weeks. Did I mention I am uncoordinated when it comes to sports? Well, not just sports.

Well if it's your right ankle then its probably the same bone she broke. Hers is on the left one on the left side of her ankle. Her boot makes it hurt worse but it wasn't put on by someone that knew what they were doing. Shes not wearing it right now cause it makes it hurt worse.

What ever happened to a doctor putting a cast on. Guess this is the new and improved method.

Good catch. I bet they tell you it's non returnable, too.

Geez Leggs. No wonder it's uncomfortable. I hope you're able to get a replacement somehow. My insurance covered mine (well, sort of, it will be applied to my deductible).

FWIW - I'll pm you the instructions I found online from Dartmouth Hitchcock Orthopedic dept. I hope you have the little blue gadget to inflate it? That makes a big difference for comfort, maybe you can try it until you get a new boot? I adjust it when I'm going to be up and around versus stretched out on the couch and again when I'm going to sleep. It does seems to deflate over time.

Well it's their screw up. They better replace it or I will bring a world of s__t to them. That store is out of business but their main one isn't. These people were total idiots, I can see why they are going OOB. Of course they are closed today.

Oh and I looked on Amazon and you can buy the same exact boot for $54 they charged Medicare $108
Naturally. They included the cost of selecting the "correct" size and the bookkeeping required for billing Medicare.

EDIT: To be fair, they may know that the sizes listed by the manufacturer for the boot are inaccurate and chose what their experience indicated was the proper size. It is possible that the problem is something else rather than the size.

Why is it these kinds of things always happen on a Friday???
Over 25 years ago, before I had a cell phone, I went and had a periodic physical exam. Since I was a heavy smoker, I was given a chest x-ray. A couple of days later, on Thursday afternoon, the doctor left a message on my answering machine:
"I saw something on your x-ray that worries me... call me back as soon as you can."

By the time I got home from work and listened to the message, the doctor's office was closed. The doctor didn't work on Fridays. Monday was a holiday and the doctor didn't work holidays. So it was Tuesday, a full 5 days later, before I was able to call during office hours. What did the doctor say? He said he made a mistake in reading the x-ray and that it was nothing.
