Oh my, hope they can get you fixed up quick!

Hi, you had the pneumonia vactination shot? It works. I used to get it and pleuirsy, but after the shot have never had it since.

Glad to hear that! Ever since I participated in a vaccination study when my daughter was a baby I wonder about the effectiveness of vaccinations. They told me that there is a small % of people where the vaccination doesn't take. The advantage of the study was that they tested afterward to make sure it worked. Do you remember how long the pneumonia vaccine is supposed to last? I thought I remembered that you only had to have it once?

Hi, yes I just had the 1 shot. I used to get it around twice out of three winters, had double pneumonia twice. Not nice. Like being stabbed every breath. But since the vac about 17 yrs ago I have never had it since. Man am I glad I had it. :)

@Uncle , there is a dog show in Ft Lauderdale in the fall????, one in Miami in December and several in West Palm Beach. One WPB show I know is in June/July? We don't vend these shows anymore - too small for our business, but shows none the less! Geordi got his first championship points in WPB 2 years ago.

Oh - @clnire . . . I was actually asking about when you might come down for one of these shows, especially so I could "Cheer you on" and maybe even have a cup of coffee & a vape too . . . Maybe next time, I'll be able to come to a show you are going too . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

Hi, you had the pneumonia vactination shot? It works. I used to get it and pleuirsy, but after the shot have never had it since.

SO Agree - The Vaccination shot sure does help with a lot of things . . . I use to get bronchitis at least once, if not 2 or 3 x's a year (especially when I lived up North). . . Since I had the vaccination for both the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) 1 year and the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) a couple of years later - over 5 years ago (Due for a booster soon) I haven't had any Bronchial attacks since . . . Not one . . .

BTW: Just as an FYI for anyone that is interested . . . It has been strongly suggested, by the CDC and many Doctors, that if you are 65 and older and/or have a compromised immune system you should get both Pneumonia Vacinations PCV13 & PPSV23 (1 year apart) and even have a booster shot every 5-10 years too (Adult Vaccines) . . . You will need a prescription from your doctor to get them . . . AND - Just in case Ya' might be concerned about the cost, especially if you do not have insurance - although Medicare/Medicaid is suppose to pay for them too - check with your local major pharmacy (CVS, RiteAid, Wallgreens, Publix, etc) or local Health Department/Healthcare clinic to see if they offer them for free - as they do with the Flu Shot - and/or more specifically for those who would be considered low income . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

They can't give you the shot if you have active pneumonia. I kept wanting it for my 19 months almost straight pneumonia but I had to start vaping instead.

I asked for it afterward believe you me, but I am too "young" to get it, which kind of upset me. I might have to ask for my prior auth or something.....

Although I have gotten pneumonia once since starting vaping which like, was a totally different experience I was down for like 2--3 days.

I hope you feel better soon. The pneumonia vaccine works for viral pneumonia only not bacterial, but I want to SAY that knocks down the risk a fair amount, I'm not sure how much. I don't think docs are either because they ALWAYS gave me antibiotics AND steroids which almost cancel each other out, only the abx should work for bacterial, and the viral gets knocked out by steroids. I have never been told "You have x type" of pneumonia. I was only ever told "You HAVE to stop smoking."

Until this last one.

but I am too "young" to get it,

If I maybe so bold to suggest, checked that out again:

"CDC recommends pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for . . . people 2 through 64 years old with certain medical conditions." (CDC Pneumococcal Vaccination | CDC)

The pneumonia vaccine works for viral pneumonia only not bacterial,

Not trying to disagree with you at all - however, actually here is what information I found that is available concerning that pneumonia does come from a number of different types of pneumococcal bacteria . . .

Your Child's Immunizations: Pneumococcal Vaccines (PCV, PPSV) (for Parents) - KidsHealth

"The pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) and the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) protect against pneumococcal infections, which are caused by bacteria. The bacteria spread through person-to-person contact and can cause such serious infections as pneumonia, blood infections, and bacterial meningitis."
Pneumococcal Vaccination | What You Should Know | CDC

What Types of Pneumococcal Vaccines Are There?

There are two pneumococcal vaccines licensed for use in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA):
    • Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13 or Prevnar 13®)
    • Pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23 or Pneumovax23®)
Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine
  • Prevnar 13®[42 pages]: Doctors give this vaccine to children at 2, 4, 6, and 12 through 15 months old. Adults who need this vaccine only get a single dose. The vaccine helps protect against the 13 types of pneumococcal bacteria that most commonly cause serious infections in children and adults. It can also help prevent ear infections and pneumonia caused by those 13 types of pneumococcal bacteria.
Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine
  • Pneumovax23®[9 pages]: Doctors give a single dose of this vaccine to people who need it. CDC recommends one or two additional doses for people with certain chronic medical conditions. This vaccine helps protect against serious infections caused by 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria.

Patrick ... it's the woman you loved and the woman who loved you all these years. Talk to her, her doctors, your daughter and granddaughter about it. She has brain cancer and is dealing with the end coming. She's hurting as much as you and she could also not be thinking straight due to the cancer. Show her you love and be there for her no matter how she is acting. It's 'not her' ... it's the disease and the 'dealing with it' that could be the cause of her animosity towards you.

You're one tough dude and have weathered some truly hard times ... you can weather this one too ... yes you can.
