In defense of all we armchair mechanics in this thread, there isn't a one of us who is saying "all you need to do is....", except when we're saying all you need to do is take it somewhere you think you can trust where there might be someone who knows what they're doing.
 Knew I could get you going. Your comment is legitimate.

Yep, when you see spiders outside, leave them alone. They are a pleasant addition to the balance of nature, even though many (me) see them as scary.

Just relax, and deal with the unpleasant details later. You deserve vapemail today.

Beware of armchair mechanics on the internet. Would you let someone on the internet claiming to be a doctor tell you that all you need to do is put cold compresses on a numb right arm?

We are just having a conversation about the problem with my truck. No one has claimed to be a mechanic. Just throwing out ideas about what the problem might be. Which, by the way, is greatly appreciated, & the discussion is helping my anxiety about it a lot. I'm not afraid of much. Being without transportation is a huge one for me for reasons that I won't discuss here. But knowing I have a vehicle for escape is vital.

You noted that the problem started after you got new tires. Is it possible they are simply out of line? That will always cause a vehicle to veer in one direction or the other.

I can see how it's easy to be an armchair quarterback, or an armchair political analyst - 'cause all your doin' is talking... but it's kinda hard to turn wrenches and get greasy sittin' in a Barcalounger:D

Kenna, whatever your problem is - I hope it turns out to be quick, easy, and cheap!

Oh yeah... Good morning Good Folks

Iffy, batten down the hatches my man (if'n ya haven't already)... looks like y'all got some rough weather out in the Gulf! (in fact, it may be on top of ya by now)... take care.

I want to apologize to anyone if a couple of my posts yesterday came across the wrong way. At the time I was under the mistaken belief that @Kenna was driving it that way, and was trying to protect her from potential legal ramifications of openly admitting she was driving a vehicle that had steering/braking issues. And I was trying to do so in a way that avoided referencing any of the posts specifically, so that I didn't add to the potential liability.

Knowing it isn't being driven makes my previous comments unnecessary. I do hope though that everyone understands my concern and why.

I'm a good driver! Nah, that steering is all over the place. Steering trys to go right. Brakes pulling hard left. Busted strut? No idea, gotta save up to even get it looked at.

If you need it in case an emergency shows up, then it is possible you could get some kind of related agency help you with the repair expenses. Consider asking for help IRL.

    Tonight my RY4 has flavor!

Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed with Tasha tonight. She is a bed hog but cuddly.

Allriiighty, at least two positive elements yesterday. Hope today is carefree and relaxing!

Kenna, wish ya were in my neighborhood. I've had a great mechanic fer 20+ years dat 'knows' your Tahoe, inside and out. Mine is like yours, except two doors, wid 163K on it.

Do hope ya can get your issue resolve quickly and relatively inexpensively. Take care...

No, this is not just an alignment thing. There is something that is causing it to veer hard right after I turn a corner. Like a right turn & I have to fight it to steer straight. If I stop, & work the steering wheel to the left h back to center, it works.

No apologies needed, kad! I don't see a thing offensive there. I didn't make it clear that I wasn't driving it. This steering thing started about 2 weeks after I got it inspected after I'd gone over a horrible road that was full of big potholes from construction. At the time of the inspection the brake thing had just started & had only happened a couple of times, by the time the steering went out 2 weeks later the brakes were getting worse.

How bout something really stupid. Did they tighten the bolts on the tires? They are supposed to be re-torqued after 100 or so miles. And no, I never heard of that before until I got a flat fixed. Gotta sign that you know you have to bring it back to have it re-torqued.

I have a good place to take it. But all these repairs are expensive.

The tires have maybe 100 miles on them.

Kenna, I'm sorry to say this but - hearing those details - that doesn't sound like an alignment thing, nor a brake thing. That sounds like worn out frontend parts, possibly tie rod ends but probably other parts too. I've always heard/read that if you're going to replace one frontend part, best to replace them all at the same time. A complete frontend job, parts and labor, is ~400+... ouch!

Most full-service high-volume tire stores will do a quick frontend check for little or nothing. They know what to look for and it doesn't take them very long. Pay for a little rack time and at least you'll know what the problem is... or flash that beguiling smile of yours, bat those eyes a few times - and make sure they know if/when you get it fixed you'll bring it to them... if the service manager is in a good mood - might not cost you anything! :thumb:

Well, that never worked for me, but who knows .. ?? ;)

If a qualified shop could be found that would do a front end job in the neighborhood of $400 clams parts and labor, I'd suggest begging / borrowing / stealing the dinero .. I've owned GM products since the 1990's that essentially sit on the same chassis and have a good working knowledge due to years on the road week in and week out .. just a pair of front struts and shocks on a 2001 Yukon I had years ago ran $800, and that was in 2006 ..

I agree, it's gotta be front end parts that were wering out & that road just finished them off. Even with all the work I'm doing on it, I can't complain. This truck neven cost me a dime for repairs until it hit 97k miles at 14 years old. Not one dime.

I have stuck with Tahoe/Yukon/Avalanche for all these years because they are generally robust, comfortable and safe on the road and with reasonable care and maintenance will reliably go 200K plus .. as well as having years of proven mechanical ability .. of course, you don't own one for the gas mileage .. ;) .. that 5.3 liter / 323 Cubic Inch motor has been around a long time ..
