We have had a nurse visit before a new insurance would issue a policy (previously covered or not), but for our routine medical exams, they better let me see my doctor. Granted, this year his wife , a nurse practitioner, did my exam, but I have no major health issues and had there been a concern, the Dr was right there.

We are both on a Medicare plan (Cigna -Healthspring) & TX Medicaid. This is Cigna calling us. As far as Ivm concerned they are being intrusive. My Mom has been on it for about 18 yearsn & I've been on it since 2012. They want us to get a wellness checkup every year. We do it every year & go to the PC for it. We will do it when it's covenient for us. Not because the insurance co thinks we should. A yearly check up is a good thing. We've always done it, but suddenly the insurance company thinks they need to bug us about it, like we should do it right this minute & want to send some random nurse to my home to do an evaluation. Someone with no knowledge of our medical histories, whom we've never seen before & who works for the insurance company, with the insurance co best interest in mind....not ours. We have Drs, we will keep our medical info & activity with them only.

My dad's insurance co sent someone to see him after mama died. A social worker came to see if was depressed (of course he was, but she wanted to gauge the extent), and make sure he could navigate the house. Some of her suggestions were quite helpful. And dad offered her tea, a cookie, and 30 minutes of conversation :).
That was kinda sweet. Still a little odd though. I'm with Kenna, docs should diagnose, not social workers etc. just thinking out loud ....... not sure how I feel about this one.

Someone with no knowledge of our medical histories, whom we've never seen before h who works for the insurance company, with the insurance co best interest in mind....not ours. We have Drs, we will keep our medical info & activity with them only.
Amen!!

I can't read the article without entering my date of birth, and I'm not willing to do that. I presume the article will soon be available somewhere that doesn't have that requirement.

Bells, just put in any date that makes you over 21. Nobody is going to come to your house and arrest you.

Good morning! Hope everyone has a great day! I'm off at 3:30 to do some sitting for my friends. I'll go to stay with the Mother of a lady I worked with for many years. She is helping out at our county fair & needs a little break. Her Mom has alzhiemers h lives with her family. My friends daughter will be there about 9 to take over. I'll leave then & go straight to Mack T. Corgi till Sunday afternoon, come home for the night, & then back to Mack the next morning. I'm glad I can help out in these situations & make it possible for these people to do things they wouldn't be able to do otherwise. All I can do is go there & sit there instead of staying here & sitting, but it feels good to feel useful. It's a break in the routine for Mom & I & forces her to move around a little more. I'm so grateful she doesn't show signs of alzhiemers.

Okay I lurk here all the time and never post so excuse my butting in. I am in the insurance field though so I know why Cigna is all up in your business so I thought I would explain why they are stalking you. The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) incents and penalizes Medicare Advantage insurers based on how many of their members receive their annual wellness visit. This is not really an annual physical but rather a more simplified services where they check your vitals and have a discussion to potentially identify health risks you may have. I respect your desire to have them be more hands off with you but just wanted you to know that it is actually the federal government that is making them run you down this way.

Since I work for an insurance company I just wanted to give my industry's perspective on this practice.

I know it's the govt behind it, & that's one reason they aren't going to be allowed in my home or in my business. If they paid attention, they'd realize we have go to the Dr frequently because of med's we take & health conditions. We get a wellness exam every year. The fact that they do not see that is one more reason they will not be in charge of my healthcare. I don't care jow penalized they are. That's what they get for parading their white coats in the WH Rose Garden & jumping on the govt health bus.

Welcome to the porch Danidoo! Speak up, don't be a stranger. Thank you for the information. It explains the situation, but, please don't take offense because I do not mean any, does not excuse it.

I will be off-line for the next two days.

Take care 3mg, thanks for letting us know.

I suspected that the govt was behind it in some manner. years ago a French friend told me that after a baby is born and taken home their govt shows up to make sure the mother is able to be a mother to the child. I found that very intrusive, to be at the mercy of someone else deciding if 'I am doing it right'-- I realize its there to protect the child from ...........suspect parents. ----------I still don't like it and don't want to be a part of that.

At the risk of being shot -- or worse yet, banned from the porch :( ...

I respectfully disagree. Many, many people on Medicare don't go for an annual wellness checkup. They don't understand how to take their meds, or what the symptoms of certain health issues might be. They may be virtually housebound. They may see several docs who don't talk to one another; medical record sharing is not mandatory. Unlike the folks on the porch - all of whom are thoughtful about their health - lots of elderly people are "old school": questioning a doctor is just not done. For these people, an annual wellness check in the home by a licensed provider is a godsend. This is why the government added an incentive for insurers. No medicare recipient is forced to participate.

Back to the FP. I'm less likely to get into trouble, there :)

I agree that it is a great thing for many people. I might be in a position someday to need that service. It just seems to me, that they have the info they need to see that it is not the case with us. Maybe they just call everyone to keep from getting fined for not making the attempt to get people to do it. I'm here to look after my mother, but she would not be able to live alone, & I can't go very far away for very long.l, & when I do go the family steps up & stay in daily contact with her.

@Danidoo, I soooooo rude! I forgot to thank you, & welcome you to the Porches. Please forgive me! I was on a rant-roll for sure. I think the 2 calls in one day found the one nerve I allow for those things! [emoji16]

No need to apologize! Thanks!
