Good morning! Hope everyone has a great day! I'm off at 3:30 to do some sitting for my friends. I'll go to stay with the Mother of a lady I worked with for many years. She is helping out at our county fair & needs a little break. Her Mom has alzhiemers h lives with her family. My friends daughter will be there about 9 to take over. I'll leave then & go straight to Mack T. Corgi till Sunday afternoon, come home for the night, & then back to Mack the next morning. I'm glad I can help out in these situations & make it possible for these people to do things they wouldn't be able to do otherwise. All I can do is go there & sit there instead of staying here & sitting, but it feels good to feel useful. It's a break in the routine for Mom & I & forces her to move around a little more. I'm so grateful she doesn't show signs of alzhiemers.
Kewl!! enjoy your time. Wish I could do this type of thing more. Love it when I get to go it. It is wonderful to feel useful and help folks! Mega respect to you for how you help your mother.

Okay I lurk here all the time and never post so excuse my butting in. I am in the insurance field though so I know why Cigna is all up in your business so I thought I would explain why they are stalking you. The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) incents and penalizes Medicare Advantage insurers based on how many of their members receive their annual wellness visit. This is not really an annual physical but rather a more simplified services where they check your vitals and have a discussion to potentially identify health risks you may have. I respect your desire to have them be more hands off with you but just wanted you to know that it is actually the federal government that is making them run you down this way.

Since I work for an insurance company I just wanted to give my industry's perspective on this practice.
welcome!! And thanks for the explanation. I knew money was involved somehow, and figgered it was the government. Hope you'll quit lurking and become a part of our family!

I will be off-line for the next two days.
Hope that is your choice, and not your internet being out. Thanks for letting us know hun!

At the risk of being shot -- or worse yet, banned from the porch :( ...
Never! I agree it can be a very good thing for some. But incredibly intrusive for others.

I respectfully disagree. Many, many people on Medicare don't go for an annual wellness checkup. They don't understand how to take their meds, or what the symptoms of certain health issues might be. They may be virtually housebound. They may see several docs who don't talk to one another; medical record sharing is not mandatory. Unlike the folks on the porch - all of whom are thoughtful about their health - lots of elderly people are "old school": questioning a doctor is just not done. For these people, an annual wellness check in the home by a licensed provider is a godsend. This is why the government added an incentive for insurers. No medicare recipient is forced to participate.

Back to the FP. I'm less likely to get into trouble, there :)

You could never get banned Birdy! We are all allowed our opinions. I actually agree with you. There are many that can benefit from this "service", as long as we have the right to opt out if we do get our annual checkups from our primary doctors.

Well on the morning news they had yet another lady here in town that received alleged burns from an ecig. Of course no explanation supposedly the manufacturers said a lot of time it is caused from using a cell phone cord instead of the provided cord which we know that any decent device the charge limitation is set by the board on the ecig. So I proceeded to send them a long message on their FB page about how all ecigs are not created equal. A convenience store ecig is not a Provari and how they never give any details on the problem and how they always put things like this instead of the truth about how many people this is helping getting off cigs and how I have been vaping since 08 and never had a battery problem or that the FDA has made it illegal to explaing battery safety and a bunch of other stuff. How many people have been burned by cigs inluding burning down the house. IDK if it will help but at least I gave them my opinion without really criticizing them too much except for their inadequate reporting.

I'm glad you did. You never know who will read your letter and store away the info in their brain only to remember it some day in the future and pass it on to someone else. That happened to me years ago. It was during my wild bird rehabilitation years. I gave a lecture at a nature center and part of it was what to do if you find an injured bird. One lady who was in the audience called me a out a year later to ask for more infomation because her neighbor had found an injured bird.

And that reminds me:

It's time of year again when I get asked by my friends up north if hummingbird feeders should come down so as not to prevent them from migrating. It's not true that leaving your feeders up will stop hummers from migrating.

If you have hummingbird feeders up DON'T take them down until you no longer see any hummers for at least a week. In northern states that would be as late as mid October. By leaving them up you'll be providing some later migrating birds with much needed energy for their trip south.

When I was a kid...........I saw a dog tossin sumpthin up in the air a few times..........went over there, it was a baby Robin. Chased the dog off, went and got my dad. We took it in the house, using a cloth to pick it up. Called the nature center. They told us to get some raw hamburger, and an eyedropper. Feed it every hour or couple few hours, don't recall. But to put a lil water in the eyedropper, then a small piece of the hamburger on the end of the dropper and shoot that in the birds mouth. So dad did that all night. We were able to take it to the nature center a day or two later. Always wondered bout that birdy.

Just wanted to stop and check in. We're in Palm Bay, Fl. by Patrick AFB visiting friends. We'll end our sojurn tomorrow when we arrive at our new home. I will recount our journey as soon as I have time and am not occupied fixing everything that has screwed up including the passenger side door handle from Doree's car. One thing I did want to ask does anybody remeber the movie "Soylent Green" with Charlton Heston....what would possess a company to name themselves "Soylent"...read on....
