If that cousin still lives here, and you ever come to visit, ya gotta let me know.
I'm not likely to visit that cousin even if she does still live in Temple (long story, not particularly interesting... she's a "kissin'" cousin not actually related to me and has only been to that one reunion) but if I'm ever planning to go to TX I'll let ya know! Doesn't matter what part of TX since it's kind of a small place, right?

I'm still adapting to not being able to garden as much as I used to. But I have come up with ways to do a lot of things. I have a director's chair, with bars across the bottom sides that keep it from sinking, that works for a lot of gardening. It's light enough to move easily but sturdy enough to use the arms for getting up and down.

My other favorite is a rolling scooter with an old fashioned tractor seat on it -- harder to get up and down from, but since it rolls I don't need to get up and down as much. I did have to get a quad cane as a booster lever for that, since my regular cane sinks in the garden soil. My scooter isn't quite as fancy as the one in the picture, but it does have the steering lever. My first one didn't, which removed a lot of the convenience of rolling.

The things I can't do are any kind of shoveling, hole digging or post pounding, since I can't balance doing those. I'm still hoping to find someone to hire to help with those and some inside projects. Liz does help a lot when she's up here, but she can't make it very often - for some reason she has a life of her own, too.:D

I was hoping to do some raised beds this year, but can't afford it now - maybe next year.:(

I've seen articles about hay bale gardening. That would be good for vegetable gardens. Similar to a raised bed, but you plant into the bales. There are YT videos on it. I wish I had a place for a veggie garden, but we have potted plants on our patio. I havn't messed with the plants in several years, but used to have beautiful plants.

Speaking of trees....

(Stop me if I've told this story before).

At a family reunion in NC in 1990 a cousin from Temple TX attended with her two kids, maybe 5 and 8. The kids had never seen pine cones, or at least not the big ones common in the Mid-Atlantic, and they were fascinated by them. After I got home I filled a big box with pine cones and mailed it to them.

I'd bet the kids really got a kick out of their package! We only have the smaller pinecone down here. Lots of them, tho, especially in East Texas. They are abundant around Houston, too, & do really well in the hurricanes.

You know I was just thinking, the pictures of buds and babies and such here just makes the place feel more like home. I really like it here and am very, very fond of my extended family. Overall it's a rather comfortable porch isn't it?

OK! It's hot outside, humid too... Maybe I can wait for summertime!

It's very comfortable here, & I, for one, am very grateful for these porches!

Oh no! It matters for sure! Love ya, Bells, but i'm not driving 13 hours to see you! Lets see, I'm south of Houston, Deb is in Central, Russell & Gordon are around DFW...trying to come up with something in the middle of all of us! Drawing a big blank spot in an area full of nothing! We have lots of big blank spots here. BIG 'uns!

hope you sleep well hun!!
It didn't work. I just laid there until it started getting light then got up and read the Sunday paper. Oh well, I'm used to it by now. I'll just drag around all day until I can try again tonight. I'd take a nap later today but if I did then I could almost guarantee that I wouldn't sleep tonight. Honestly this not sleeping is really starting to suck. But, what can you do. Tried every sleep aid in the book and none worked, the Ambien type ones just make me do stupid things like trip over stuff and pee in the clothes hamper in my sleep (that was a weird night, thank goodness Doree caught me before I actually did!). I guess if I really needed to sleep I would. I can't figure out if I'm worried about something or not because if I am it's not a conscious thing. Enough grousing. ☺
Good morning everybody. Hope all a safe from the nasty weather down Texas/Louisiana way. It's absolutely beautiful out this morning but, unfortunately the nasty weather is supposed to be moving this way. Probably arrive this afternoon late or sometime towards morning. The way my luck is running these days it most likely will be just in time to block the satellite signal in the middle of the Bristol race.

OK! It's hot outside, humid too... Maybe I can wait for summertime!

I understand there is a lot of nothing areas in Texas. Some roads straight for miles and nothing much on them. I've never been to Texas but, maybe one of these days. Doree has been to San Antonio on business several times but, they didn't see fit to pay for the spouses to go along. Cheap bums!

OK! It's hot outside, humid too... Maybe I can wait for summertime!

Good morning everyone! Looks like a gorgeous day shaping up. Yikes! I slept straight through for 8 hrs. Can't remember do that for a long-long time. I'm usually up 3 or 4 times for pee breaks. Must have really been wiped out after all that sickness and outdoor activity.

I am in complete agreement about what the outside should look like. I also have modified my definition of lawn. If it's green, it's lawn. Doree bought some weed and feed the other day and I told her, "hell no, you'll kill the lawn!"

Matt - I've always been proud of my 'textured' lawn - kind of like 50 shades of green. Some grass, some dandelions, some chickweed, some ground ivy, some clover, some crab grass, some wild onion, etc, etc.

Mornin' Porchers! So glad everyone is feeling better. Probably due to the cute pics of Miles!!! Thanks Janet!!!!!

I'm new to gardening...bought my first house about a year ago. I received a present in the mail: Hori Hori Knife (they sell them on amazon, too). WOW! You could filet a fish with this thing it's so sharp. I dug out some grass to plant some irises that were given to me and that knife sure was handy. I took it over to show a neighbor who was working in her garden. She'd been trying to dig up a huge root from a weed. I handed it to her, she had that root out in about 10 seconds!

With the location of the blue quilt square behind Miles' head, it kind of looks like he just graduated. What a fine Miles Smile! The picture of Miles and Mike is great too.

lol It does........don't rush him!!! that'll already be there if they blink 2 or 3 times.

I thought the same!

When my DH of over 30 years now and I got married my son (from a previous marriage) was about 5. First day of kindergarten DH was late to work. Had a client meeting. DH explained his tardiness reason - had to take sone to kindergarten. Client "but you just got married" DH "yea, and next week he is going to college!"

True story - really happened.

Nice to see everyone check in and feeling better. And the music is wonderful!

There was more to say but for now my brain is tired.

He is adorable, Janet. He looks so happy.

He should be happy! His every whim is attended to at this age! And yep, I thought that too about looking like he's graduating. Didn't notice when I took the picture, I was just trying to catch him before he got all serious trying to figure out what I was doing with the phone. An elderly woman once told me that the older you get the faster time passes with the kids and I thought she was nuts. Turns out she was right. I can't believe our 2 kids are 34 an 36 years old! When did that happen? I swear I didn't look away!

Mike did the weed and feed on the front lawn and it worked so well that EVERYTHING died and we had nothing but dirt! We went out to rake up the dead stuff and discovered we had no grass out there at all. Mike has been trying to grow a real grass lawn out there for years. I think that would be nice, but unless he's willing to pay attention to it every day with watering, feeding etc. it ain't gonna happen. He enjoys trying though and it is good exercise. 3 acres of weeds and seeds though will revert it back to weeds in no time. Save the effort and expense and just mow the weeds. At least they're green.

I am just curious - Gas here has gone up quite a bit over the last few weeks - about 30 cents - how about your areas...

The price is up here, too. My little Beetle takes diesel, and it's back up over $3/gallon.

I've always thought that attending to a little one's every whim is a wonderful thing. Too soon, he will have to attend to his own; how great that you can enjoy this little bit of doting, now! And what a smile!

My beloved is a lawn fanatic. Many an evening, I've called him for dinner, only to see that he's plunked down n the grass, pulling chickweed. I hear, "Just 5 more minutes!" This means 1/2 hour or so ... :)
