Thanks, darlin'. I have dual coils in a couple of Nuppins (18mm attys). Prolly I could run singles, but I'm loving the flavor and vapor with duals. No TC; CC mods, which are mech all the way :)

I'm running dual coils in the Nipple on the mech T-mod. It's a 22mm atty, but because of the post orientation and the domed top cap, it's a pretty tight fit (because I refuse to do vertical coils). If I remember correctly, I do 2.5mm in that one, but I'll double check it here shortly.

It's hard for me to manipulate everything with my funky hands. I have to wrap on a coiler, I take that out, & put a longer mandrel in, & use that for the install. The coiler gives me slightly spaced coils with the SS, a little bigger than 2.5. I could use a pait of needlenose pliers & pull it tighter on the mandrel, but that ends up lower than I want to be. 1.1 is almost too low. 1.3 - 1.5 is my happy place with my juices & flavor in my KF's & RM2.

I can completely understand that. That little bit of slack in the wraps can make the bit of difference that you need to keep your res where you want it. I tend to go low with most of my builds, so keeping them tight is the only way that I can stay consistent. Believe it or not, even 0.25Ω often doesn't give me a warm enough vape unless I close up the air flow a bit. That's one of the reasons that I've gone up to 3mm coils when the atty allows for it... bigger coils seem to be easier for me to control. But that could all just be in my head.

For kanthal only, torching it first takes out most of the spring. And a regular butane lighter is good enough :)

I haven't found that annealing SS makes much difference for me... definitely did with kanthal, though.

No getting ugly.... Job is taken!
roflmao!

Can someone please remind me what gauge SS wire to get? Usually I use 26ga kanthal, and build to .6 ohms. Should I get the same ga SS wire? As well, it is Temco 316SS, yes? Thanks!
I got 28 and 26 So far I haven't gone lower than .5 ohms, but might try lower soon. DEFINITELY look at the prices when you order. I found 250ft rolls to be the best buy at temco. It was 30 sumpthin cents higher on one and bout 1.00 higher on the other than just 100 ft.

Cripes and crimminy! That's a lot of wraps!!! How on earth would you do dual coils?! My dual coils are .36-.38 ohms...
for my duals that net .5 I do 9 wraps with 28g. You could get those in the nuppins I do use a coil jig, cuz I can't see it well enough to just wrap around something.

I do use the cm coil jig, but I always put on 2 extra wraps, and pull one off with pliers from each side to tighten them a bit. Also always keep it on the rod when installing like you do. When I think of it, I'll get an extra rod out same size and put it through the other coils so they both stay on a rod til totally tightened down.

I have been scouring various recipe sites when I can because that is my fear. Our freedom of speech will be gaschmotched (that's a technical term) due to being vape related. I an sure Facebook vaping pages will be closed. Other web sites I'm not sure, but could be. I have a huge Word file of recipes. One day I hope to have the time to organize it better. ;) much less try mixing more than I have.

My fear is letting my fellow vapers poison themselves. . Do some people think that is 100mg of nicotine in 100 ml fluid? Or 1
Truly priceless...

Oh, wait...
I
Yes, that was it! I forget the manufacturer too..

Oh yes! Backups for backups! Having been a computer tech for over 20 years, I can't tell you how many times a hard drive crashed and there was no backup. I back everything up to a flash drive at this point.

My recipes are in a big Word file, so no problem printing them and putting them in a binder.

No ignoring a valuable post Bea. All good advise even if I already know. I don't always use my own knowledge and it doesn't hurt to be reminded.

I had been MOL pushed into using Dropbox for the safety of my pictures and can also pull up my file on any computer. You get some free space. I must have 100 pictures on mine at least. I would install drop box, then it shows up on your file list, and you drag the recipe to the dropbox. Now you have it potentially forever copied into drop box. The free space they give you is a lot for what I have as a common person on there. It's much easier than any other way to copy except for copying, but you can pull up your dropbox anywhere you sign in.

Huh?, reading everything it seems the FDA is going after nicotine notes on computers. Do I need to print out all my recipes with nic, too? Should I print out two sets?

Where did you find this information?

there are likely some that don't read and don't understand..........but the DIY section here really harps on how dangerous 100mg nic can be if you don't properly understand it, and that you should use protective eyewear, gloves etc. I don't use any of that, but I am very careful with it. They really want folks to have a very healthy respect for it. So I doubt there are many that use it without knowing what it is. The ones that might are what I refer to as TSTBs Too Stupid To Breathe, and unfornately, not much can be done for those folks

You can use most sizes of wire to make a variety of different ohms by varying how big your inner diameter of the coil is, and how many wraps you put no the coil. The gauge of the wire comes into play as well. There are two calculators that will tell you how many wraps you'll need when you put in the other info, gauge of wire, inside diameter (how big of a rod are you wrapping the wire around) and your target ohms. One is Steam engine Coil wrapping
the other I know of is coil toy

Not ready for that kind of weather yet. Luckily, it'll be a few more weeks before I have to worry about it though it is starting to get down in the 50s at night this week.

Mike this is East Coast Long Island, New York weather! I had that A/C on in the truck the other day and tomorrow I might be using it again! Although it was a brisk morning it is not going to stay like this.

Ceramic head update-

First, I guess I was describing them wrong. They are a SS coil with a ceramic wick.

I soaked one of the oily tasting coils in a cup of boiling water till the water went cold. Shook it out, primed it and filled the tank. It still had that taste, but it was less. I've let the coil soak in the tank of juice for a couple days and it tastes better now. Still a slight taste, but it's barely detectable. I'll let it soak a couple more days and try it again.

My guess is I was tasting the ceramic that wasn't saturated, and it takes a long time for the ceramic to get soaked up with juice. I'm still going to boil them prior to use, and presoak them in juice for a few days, but I think they will be usable.

what you call brisk I would call freezin!!

I know nothing about these, but wouldn't a ceramic wick be similar to readyxwick? Have you tried dry burning the wick if that's the case??

I was thinking the same question.

I highly doubt the US government is interested in finding computer notes on nicotine or ejuice recipes over focusing on important things such as terrorism, drug smuggling, cybertheft, child porn, DDoS attacks, etc. That doesn't make ANY sense to me at all.

Okay, just rebuilt the Nipple on the mech T-Mod. Dual coils, 2.5mm I.D., 26g SS316L, 6 wraps (spaced) and relatively long legs (in comparison to pretty much all of my other RDAs). Ohms out at 0.23Ω.

*This puts me just over 18A and almost 77W on a room temp coil. Well within my VTC4s spec. Additionally, the resistance will increase as the coil gets hotter, so the current and wattage will effectually decrease throughout the vape*

That's one thing I don't understand. If I have wire that's 1.5 ohm, and I'd like 5ohm, how many wraps do I do? Or does it work that way? Does it work for M to L?

Pretty well covered, but some additional info.

Wire gauge is counter-intuitive at these sizes. It defines the diameter of the wire, but goes backward. 26 is a bigger diameter than, say, 30.

Gauge / diameter (along with material, of course, so for this just keep thinking all the same material, kanthal, ss, whatever) determines the resistance (ohms) of the wire. The bigger the diameter, the lower the resistance for the same length of wire.

So you don't have a wire that's 1.5 Ω unless it's cut to the precise length needed depending on the wire gauge.

A coil will have a length of wire, but we don't usually measure it out. We build to a given ID and number of turns. The bigger the ID, the more wire it takes to get a given number of turns to the coil. Keeping the same ID and number of turns, you'll get a lower final resistance with a bigger gauge (smaller number, remember ;) ) than with a higher gauge (bigger number.)

So it's really just you deciding what resistance you want to vape at, and what size wire. Plug those into any of the mentioned calculators, and plug in the ID coil you want, and they'll spit out how many turns you need.

Leg length is, of course, part of the total length of the coil. Some calculators ask for it (they should!!). Just estimated the length from the end of the coiled part to the terminal post, for each end, of course, and add that in.

Being a tootler, and not liking the ramp up/cool down time of the bigger wires, I build all my coils with 30. (Although I do use 32 for Kanger single bottom coils, to get the resistance I want. Then again, been a long time since I've vaped those!)

My guess is I was tasting the ceramic that wasn't saturated, and it takes a long time for the ceramic to get soaked up with juice. I'm still going to boil them prior to use, and presoak them in juice for a few days, but I think they will be usable.

Huh, never have that problem with rayon... ;)

Ordered a Pico was posed to be here today. Built a parallel 26g 7 wrap 3mm ID coil, put it on the Merlin tank.......got it all ready....... came out to a perfect .3 ohm. Checked the mail......mail was there........... NO PICO!!

Heck, send me your Merlin, I have a Pico I'll check it out on it for you!
