Has anyone tried both SS 304 and SS 316 for making coils? I don't have any SS 316, and I'm enjoying my SS 304, but it seems that SS 316 might be used by more people these days. I think when I bought my three 30' spools of SS 304 a good while back, nobody was using SS 316. Is SS 316 more popular these days, and if so, why?

My Kanger Subtank Plus tanks do not leak when I use them on my Yihi SXMini Q Class mod. This really amazes and delights me. The Subtank remains my tank of choice but I've become COMPLETELY accustomed to the fact that it leaks on every mod I've ever used it with, and I've been using these tanks for a couple of years now. The leaking is especially bad when I haven't used the mod for a couple of hours, but it occurs even when I'm using it continuously.

Except when I use it on the SX Mini... no leaking! My best guess is this might have something to do with the smoothness of the power delivery. My mind is pleasantly blown.

I didn't get into SS until it seemed everyone settled on 316L. I know there wete serveral being tried & compared when TC first started. But then I never jump on the next new thing until the dust settles & all the bugs are worked out.

Check Ω and refill, every other time take a look at wicks and coils.

I just bought* a Coil Master V3... could have sworn I had one already but a search of emails says that I don't. This is the best price I could find... $8, shipped from China.

*I mean, I just ordered. When something is coming from China I don't count my vape mails before they're hatched.
great price! I love everything about mine, size stamped on rods, longer rods, thicker barrel and top, etc

I'm with kenna most all were using 316 by the time I tried it. I can send ya some 316 if you like......I have 26 and 28g and plenty of both

I have arrived in cartotank heaven!!! And a charger and a kick. Someone decided to thin their herd, and I am grateful!! This is wonderful. I may be able to step down my maintenance duties to once a month!

Thanks very much! I appreciate the offer and will keep it in mind if I decide to try 316. Right now, my interest is academic. Maybe someone (@2legsshrt?) will be able to tell me what relative advantages/disadvantages there are between 304 and 316. Curiously, I have tried the 304 on two mods so far in TC mode. It works great on the SX Mini but on the Sigelei Kaos, the resistance does not read correctly. It reads at about half of what it actually is. When I switch the Kaos to power mode, the resistance reads correctly and it works fine. Strange.

Not an expert, but I believe that the first TC devices that were capable of using SS in TC mode were programmed for the temperature coefficient of SS304. I'm not really sure why the switch was made to SS316 but that has become the standard used in newer devices. I think in theory 316 is slightly more accurate than 304 but I doubt it is enough of a difference to really matter.
Again though I'm not an expert, the above is simply based on what I have gathered from other peoples posts along the way. Hopefully someone will have more info than I do.

Thats the one I have. The newest ones have a holder for the different sizes but that is a great price. I really don't wrap anything but 3mm so it makes it pretty easy. I do use the 2.5 on on STM that I use Kanthal on, still use a spaced coil but it is the one I use on my SXmini Sclass which is a regulated mod with power only and coil needs to be I believe it is 1 ohm minimum. First one they ever made.

I've never used 304 but I am prety sure that 316 and 316L are slightly different and I believe 316L is sugical grade SS. I started using it because I like using Temco and that is all they sell. It seems to be more readily available but it's all I've ever used and since they have gotten most mods now with adjustable TCR it works great on them. I looked it up and its the amount of carbon in the wire. 316L is slightly lower. Here is a comparison which includes 304
Article: Comparison of 304 or 316 and 304L or 316L type compositions and effect on corrosion resistance
Also it doesn't say anything about surgical grade but the Temco SS has been excellent for me. I know that I believe it is 430 has the highest TCR which should make it more responsive to TC but 316L works fine for me so I have never even tried to find it.

What tank are you using? I've been looking at the s&p tanks, top fill, $18. I guess a good IBT is good enough..

I'll tell ya, for quite awhile most threads out in General the last few months have ended up with people talking about 316. Over and over again.

I normally just google stuff or just save links to things. But, if I'm going to be paranoid, I might as well go all the way! I'm going to download the videos in case they disappear in the future.

So, my current stocking up is of videos instead of gear.

Since building coils for different RBAs is the most likely thing I would need videos for, I'm starting my project with those videos. I already finished my RTAs (unless I find/buy more). Next up is my RDAs.

The videos might be helpful when I forget things. But, even more, they would help teach someone else that builds for me when I can't do it myself anymore.

I agree! A great idea! I have been saving (copy/pasting into Word documents) recipes just in case the recipe sites disappear some day. Saving videos would be good too. But how do you download a video from YouTube?
