I have some solar up-lights that I got specifically because they use rechargeable 18650 batteries and can be used to charge my batteries in a power outage.
I also have one of these:
Amazon.com: Anker 21W Dual USB Solar Charger, PowerPort Solar for iPhone 7 / 6s / Plus, iPad Pro / Air 2 / mini, Galaxy S7 / S6 / Edge / Plus, Note 5 / 4, LG, Nexus, HTC and More: Cell Phones & Accessories
and one of these:
Amazon.com : BioLite Wood Burning CampStove First Generation : Camping Stoves : Sports & Outdoors

but the biolite website has even more ideas these days

Ken, thanks! Got sucked into reading all the amazon questions on the solar charger and wound up not posting here last night. Just got me more confused. Sounds like a good device. It reminded me that I'd given my husband an external battery charger a couple of years ago. Can use the solar charger to charge the battery pack instead of leaving the batteries/charger outside to bake in the sun while charging.

Looked at the stove tonight because if the house burns, I won't have to look far for a cooking fire. If the power just goes out, the stove works anyway. So just looked at it expecting to see a solar stove. ;) That thing is just flat out cool. Genius even. Wish I could afford to get that too if just for the "cool" factor.

Thank you for your help.

I'd be frustrated, too, if that happened. Maybe you're right, and it's your base on the Davide that's "wonky", and the coils are actually OK? I hope you can determine what's causing it for sure.

I haven't had any problems with the JOC ones so far (knock on wood). I use them, and I also order enough for another person's stash when I order more for mine. She hasn't told me of any problems with them either.

Switched the bases and it worked much better. I then put in one of the coils that threw errors on the Provari and it wouldn't fire. :( Worked on the Spinner in a Davide Mini. Go figure.

The 510 on Davides are solid as are the threading on Provaris so somehow I messed up. Not blaming the equipment.

Yes, that is correct. Temco's site showed that SS316L was on a 3-month backorder. I decided to go ahead and order it so when it was back in stock I would already have it ordered. I placed the wire order on Monday morning and it was delivered on Thursday.
One thing I did with the other SS I had on hand was I cut into 6-inch pieces and straightened it. I am now going ahead and wrapping coils and saving them in an old pill bottle. Last night while watching a movie I went ahead and wrapped 10 coils. I found a 3mm screw in a junk drawer in the workshop and it makes great spaced coils. When I install the coils I can screw the coil on the 3mm screw and use it to hold the coil while placing the legs around the head screws. I think I read about this procedure on ECF and it is a great time saver.

I remember when wrapping on screw was all the rage. I have a bunch somewhere. Then came the coilers, which just about everybody on ECF made fun of. That was right before just about everybody switched to coilers.

It is not long enough for that, maybe seven. If it were longer, like seven inches, I might. :w00t: That way, there is no chance of a frustrating tangle. However, I haven't done that for a long time, as my coils last. I have 24 devices in my rotation.

24 in rotation?! You go girl! :thumb: I have one with unflavored juice in it. I even haul it outside when I feed the critters, not that I have a third hand at that time to use it, we're just attached at the hip. It does pay the price though. One day it dropped out of my pocket and into a pile of deer poop.

Morning folks! I read this thread a lot but rarely post, but all the posts about coils really has peaked my interest. I have Reos that I use at times and I stocked up on Kayfun for the days when I might not be able to get blister packs. Unfortunately my arthritis is getting worse and after reading here I have decided to make a bunch of coils and use my RTAs while I can still build coils and see well enough to wrap those legs! I think the blister packs will be better a few years down the road.
Looks like I need to make a run to Wally World for Altoids and safety pins :)

Hi chilicat! :)

I had quit vaping for six months but really started missing it so I'm back again. This makes three times I've quit and each time I gave away all my stuff so vape mail is inbound from about four different online sellers at this moment.

Had to get another work vape : Pico + Nautilus. Got a Sapor V2 and some kanthal + KGD coming as well. I did keep my Coil Master and tweezers and stuff so I should be back to fogging up the house next week some time. Until my stuff gets here I'm using a Joyetech eGo AIO right now with my old standby, Mr E Liquid RY4. It's not the best vape but not bad for the price. It sure beats what I started vaping with.

What do I need to stock up on and how long do I have before prohibition begins?

I hope everyone has been doing well. Lots of familiar screen names, I see. Nice to visit the Porch again.

Almost forgot the most important part: Smoke free for 2.5 years thanks to vaping. :w00t:

Hi Metal! :) Really happy to hear you haven't reverted to smoking. A lot of people I've seen on ECF race to get off vaping, give their stuff away, and at some point go back to smoking and then have a worse time quitting the second time around. Not often we advise people to stop being so damned generous.

Buy nicotine. A lot of nicotine. Get the devices/tanks/drip tips you like. You can buy wire, wicking, flavors, PG, VG after the ban. Learn how to DIY juice, it ain't rocket science.

This a good thread Are you done stocking up? , it's only 1,008 pages long. Read some of it, jump in and explain yourself and ask your questions. They are an excellent crew and seem to stay on top of things.

Hi Chilicat and welcome to ECF. One thing I have that makes making coils a bit easier for me is a magnifying light. I have good dexterity of my hands but my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I have a couple different coilers and they do make the contact coils easier. I just can't make a spaced coil worth a darn with the coilers. I also have a 5" hemostat clamp that really makes coil making easier. I like the ability to lock the hemostat clamp on the wire and I can pull the wire tighter. I am actually going to Harbor Freight today to get another pair. I think they are about $5.00 for a pair.

So I was finally in the market for some new 18650's. I've always been an AW batt fanboy. But I just ordered 4 of the brown LG 18650 HG2 3000MAH 20A batts from RTD during their Father's Day sale. Anyone else use these batts?

I use them in all my mods. They last a long time at low watts.

My old batts were still taking a charge and working but seemed to be running down faster then 'before'. They got re-charged about every other day so based on their age, I figured I'd replace 'em.

I have a good desktop lighted magnifier, it's that my glasses got so bad that I can't see well enough to rewick the coils right now. But yeah, a good magnifier is worth triple its weight in gold.

My preferred method now is to loosely space-wrap on a 2.5 spindle, and then scrunch in down once with tension on the wire. Gives me pretty much perfect spaced coil. When I can see again I'll let you know how the wicking is going...

I'm impressed you keep a log on your battery use. :thumb: I don't remember how long I had my last batch of batteries but @holimakaru posted a sale on AW batteries last December and thought it was time to get some new ones as mine seemed to lose the charge faster. The new batteries lasted almost twice as long and charged in about a third of the time. Six months later it's still hard to believe how fast they charge. Figured the last batch had about 300 or less charges on them. Gonna make battery replacement a yearly or 18 month ritual. Y'know, peace of mind and all that. :)

I had you figured as having more than just 3 mods in the rotation.
To be technically correct, you are right. I've got a 4th, which is at my computer desk, from which I average about two tokes per day. I often go a week without using it at all. It's got an Innokin i30s tank on it, which I stocked up on coils for at a time when I thought I'd never use a different tank in my life. At this rate I'll finish off the coils in a century or two.

Well, sure. If you're going out, you have to have a backup (or more ), so it might as well be a flavor change :)
But what if you found yourself haunted by the question (as I would), "which is better"? I can't deal with such questions.

I am super adventurous in the alchemy of making my joose, but totally lacking in adventure once it's made.

I'm blessed with (deluded by?... doesn't matter because the result is the same) an innate outlook which automatically rates the worst of my own efforts above any store-bought joose. Maybe my taste buds are egotistical. Anyone who needs a confidence boost to enter the world of DIY joose mixing may feel free to borrow some of that outlook, because my supply of it is infinite.

6 pour moi.
He spoke French! Hope he's OK!

Your battery use documentation is amazing, layers and layers beyond anyone else I know. I don't see why you would retire the now-less-efficient batteries, though, unless the shorter life is a real PITA. I mean, they're going to die someday anyway, whether they're being used or not.

Jerry the Coilmaster when they upgraded it came out with a coiler that had an extra long bar that you wrap your contact coil on. Then remove the lead from the hole it is in hang on to it stretch the coil and push it back together and perfect spaced coil everytime. Like I say I love it can make coils in about 30sec. I usually make them an 8 wrap 3mm and pull one wrap off on each side leaving my 6 wrap coil with no goofy wraps. Just like everything these days a little learning curve but nothing you can't handle and makes it so easy. Has paid for itself 10 times over in frustration.

Don,t keep a batt log any more. I just looked up the purchase date of the PV's. They've all been on their original batt since getting 'em.

I don't like running out of batt power in 1 day. Just seems they always need recharging, so yes, kind of a PITA.

I still have mine from the, er, 60's.... :vapor:

AND I'll wager the tips are blackened.

That means you keep a record of every time you recharge each PV then, right? Every bit as impressive. I applaud the nerd in you!

No, no, no. Simple math for simple mind. Example. I bought the PV 300 days ago. I guesstimate I charge it every other day. estimated # of charges = 300 divided by 2 = 150 charges. Only need to keep the original order confirmation email for the PV.

Here I was thinking that you had calculated the decreasing amount of time that a charge would last. I know there was a time that you kept your batteries in sets, with each battery in a set having a sub-number so that you could rotate the charging slots and the positions of the batteries in multi-battery mods. Didn't you?

"I'm replacing the batteries because I don't think they last as long as they used to" isn't quite as impressive as "I've calculated the precise amount of vape time from each charge and on that basis I'm replacing my current batteries". The nerd in me feels slightly let down. :thumb:

To keep this from being a totally silly post, I have a question. Someone recently mentioned noticing their batteries were taking longer and longer to reach a full charge. Do batteries charge more slowly as they are used more and more? I never noticed or paid attention to that.

Yepper, I did do something like that before switching to 'mods' that have on-board charging. Now that I don't swap batteries, just plug in to re-charge, I gave up my battery spreadsheet.
