When I called them about the crack in my windshield
That brought back a memory of a bit of a battle we had with our government run insurance company(ICBC). We bought a brand new 2015 GMC Canyon right off the lot and had it for 3 days. It was late spring then went on a roadtrip to the city that was a hour away, heard a rock hit the windshield but saw no mark. Next day a crack had formed almost from bottom to top of the windshield, the rock hit the black part on the bottom of the glass I didn't see then accelerated the cracking with the defroster going.
I've always had glass insurance so 100 deductible and new windshield...well I thought. First was he said gonna look for a used windshield..NO your not. Going to get a off make glass that fits and a lot cheaper...No your not. I was getting choked that they were going to cheap out on a vehicle that I bought new and had only 3 days, I wanted that little GM logo in the bottom corner and that was final. They had to get permission as per say then told me a 3 week wait but they caved and I got a factory glass then proceeded to get private insurance after that. Final bill...I almost fell over for that GM factory windshield was 1200 bucks installed.

But the insurance finally covered it ... that wasn't $1200 out of your pocket, right? Our auto-body shop folks told me once it's quite common now-a-days for insurance companies not to 'cover' oem parts when repairing cars. They don't like using 'clone' parts as a lot of times the fit / quality is below par. Then they have to work harder to do the repairs.

I only paid the 100 deductible and ya...I know they don't like to replace with OEM but buying it new with less than 300 kms on it could have had something to do with it. It wasn't my sunny personality after handing me the first 2 options of replacement. That little GM logo was in the bottom corner...;)

Many years ago, I had an old Chevy Chevette. It was old, but got me where I needed to be reliably. Got a recall notice. Bolt in the crankshaft needed replacing. Well, after first fix where first road test resulted in a thrown rod, they completely rebuilt the engine.

Blue book at the time for the car? About $500. After all the work, statement we received (didn't owe) was about $1,700. I traded the car for a new car shortly after. when they came to get the Chevette, guy said "take what you want, this thing is going to the crusher". We both said "but it has a new factory rebuilt engine! Someone might use it."

Got a shock today when I found a message from FT admitting their mistake before I made an inquiry about it.

We are sorry to write here that during packaging, we discovered that the item SKU 5037204 (1 pc) we were about to ship out is actually not ready for ship as the incorrect inventory record in the system.

Please note that the status of your order is displayed as packaging in the system, but actually it is not ready due to the above mentioned reason. Your order will be shipped once this item is restocked. And a shipment notification will be sent to you at the same time...

 They sent me a tracking number but it hasn't shown up it the system. There's a Spinner in there so I guess I won't be seeing that package until 2019.

Possibly off topic :D but I read the thread title and was struck by the coincidence. Additionally, I am old:lol:

:lol::lol:

Navy guy huh? Me as well, ‘86-‘00. Chipped a lot of paint those 14 years . Chemist, semi-retired these days so I can spend a lot of time on the front porch:thumbs:
Yeap, Navy guy. I spent one hitch, it took me 21 years to complete it, though.

I had something happen tonight when I bottled up a 200ml batch of juice. When I bought DIY supplies, 2+ years ago, I got a 100ml graduated cylinder. When I made my latest batch I finally used the graduated cylinder to measure for all but a couple of my ingredients. I use 50ml bottles and usually fill 4 of them and have an extra 5ml or so left over. Tonight I put 45ml in each bottle to not overfill the bottles. The 4th bottle only had 30ml in it. So thinking I had made 200ml I now only got 165ml. I will now go back to using the syringes instead of the 100ml graduated cylinder. I figured it might be a bit off but didn't expect it to be over 15% off. A graduated cylinder from Scientific America should have been a bit better than that! To the trash pile for that one. When I open up and use that batch of juice, I will be keeping track and if the flavor is off I will dump it. Then again, sometimes mistakes come out really good in the long run.

Maybe the syringes are wrong? Since you're making 200 ml batches, a small error there would add up...

Do you have another measuring device that you can use to check the cylinder?
I have it on my to-do list to check it out today. I have used the same syringes and they are accurate enough to fill 4 50ml bottles. This was the first time using the graduated cylinder.

It's taken me a while to get set up, but I don't get around very well and I have to try to keep my head supported most of the time. I'm just glad I found the table/desk. It was my second try, and the too small 1st one is by my bed. Not cheap, but totally worth it.

The hard part has been to convince the cats to sit still on my lap. My typing hand is also my feline ear scratching hand.
I have one similar to that sitting by my bed for my laptop. Love it!

For our ADV atty's they get rewicked and the Kanthal coil dry burned about every 10 days to 2 weeks. A coil will last 4 to 6 months. I see nor taste no reason to change a coil unless it starts looking like a ratty old bbq grill grate after dry burning.
Same here.
