Curiosity..... What was bogegate? And what is squonking?
Bogegate was a time when Boge cartos went through a bad quality control period. Suddenly cartos were no longer reliable.

Squonking is pressing the bottle of a bottom feeder (like a REO) to push eliquid up into the atty.

It's been a long time since I recoiled a Kanger head, but the few times I did I used plain old Nichrome wire. nr-r-nr is better to avoid hot legs and prevent the insulators from heating up.

Even better is a tank with a deck that supports shorts legs ... like the Kayfun or most any other rebuildable.

And what is squonking?
In a bottom fed device (like a REO) the arrangement is a little different than what you are used to. The atty on top contians the heating element and wicking and nothing else. The juice reservoir is a bottle down inside the box with the battery. The bottle is squeezed (squonked) through an opening in the box which shoots eliquid up into the atty on demand. Then it is vaped.

I tried my new iStick Tc 40w last night with a TI coil. It works fine once you enable the TI function by turning it off, then holding the fire button and the up button for 25 seconds.

The instructions are far too sketchy on the iStick 40W. Out of the box it only supports nickel until you enable TI using the method above.

Yep but I have a couple of rebuildable attys that replace the carto for a carto tank (Divers). Those require NR-R-NR. That is why I was hunting NR wire. I have some prewelded NR-R-NR wires but that supply will not last forever. :)

Cartos! I used a lot of Boge and Smoktech SS cartos up until a few years ago. I still have a stack of new cartos in boxes in my stash box. Every once in a while I'll get one out and fill it to relive the experience. Cartos were the best before Kayfuns.

I'm sure carto tanks are leak proof these days, but the old ones with the slip rings weren't meant for pocket carry.

The last NR-R-NR wires I used were soldered with a tiny drop of solder at the junctions (hopefully they were silver solder). Those would go open after a while. I understand they went to wire welding later, but I was into RTA/RBA by then.

Is provari big and profitable enough to survive this? Although, if I'm buying my tank and replacement coils from the uk, my source of supplies shouldn't be at risk, as long as they aren't made in the USA. Well, it's all a bit of a mess, isn't it? They really are moving backwards. Hope someone, maybe the medical establishment, will shine some light on it.
Having a good time with my I stick, big improvement over the vaporfi. Don't miss sub ohm at all, thought I might.
Very glad I found the porches, it was a very solitary experience before I did. And everyone has been welcoming, patient, and so helpful. Have yet to see anyone else vaping here.
Kids coming this weekend, don't see them often enough, and next week I start designing my spot, wicker, an overload of tropical plants, so it feels like rainforest, and whatever artwork I get inspired to do.
Turning down commissions in favour of just enjoying.

Well 'us' Provari owners sure hope so. But Provape put up a post in the Provape forum area saying even for them the future is uncertain.

The future IS uncertain until the FDA action is examined and taken apart by Congress. There's a good chance that Congress will take our petitions and our comments seriously and see what the deeming action is all about. Anyone with common sense and a knowledge of the history of big tobacco and the vaping industry will realize that it's an action designed to lessen or remove competition with big tobacco.

It's not about saving the children and it's not necessarily about making our lives safer. It's about preserving the revenue for big tobacco, who are paying tobacco settlement payments to the states. BT has to make profits to pay out billions left in the agreement that extends to 2025 or so.

For the Kayfun fans ... a bigger version of the V3 mini

SvoëMesto | Kayfun 5 – important announcement
I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of new-product releases in the next couple months as manufacturers rush to beat the 90-day cutoff when all new products will need FDA approval. That's a good thing as long as they don't rush products onto the marketplace before they're actually ready. That would mostly be a concern with mods, I would think. Not a lot to go wrong with an atty as long as the coil works and it doesn't leak.

For those who haven't read the link Mike posted, the Kayfun 5 will be released only in Europe at this time and in limited quantity.

I look for our representatives to slash some items out of the FDA action and restrict their ability to seize and stop current products from shipping. Testing is one thing. Banning everything is a little bit Fascist. Test the products and require manufacturers to retrofit problem devices. Put warning labels on the rest. Isn't that the American way? A label that says, "You must use batteries rated at 20A or higher in this mod to prevent overheating and battery failure or explosion. Minimum safe atomizer resistance is .5 ohms" should be sufficient.

I also think that our lawmakers will realize that the registration costs of getting products approved is ridiculous. Charging a separate $300,000 application fee to get different nic strengths of juice approved is ludicrous.

Mods need to be safe and batteries need to be matched to the load they are used under, but this is common sense. The problem is that people are buying mods with replaceable batteries and inserting the cheapest batteries they can find. If you put a 10A battery in a cloud maker, you run the risk of battery failure.

Isn't that a little like buying a small sports car with a Hemi? It's a dangerous device if you floor it, run 100mph, and pass cars in heavy traffic. If you maintain safe speeds and drive responsibly you will be fine. Do they ban cars with more than 100HP? No ... it's up to the driver to accept the responsibility for their actions.

Just checking in. I'm not even close to being able to catch up on the Front Porch Back Porch (I'm so scatterbrained right now, I don't even know where I am! ), but I'm still alive and kickin'... contemplating what else I need to stock up on before the dust settles with the regs. Other than that, busy, busy, busy here at work... and for the record: Maintenance sucks... but I suppose that it's one of those necessary evils when one works in a rather dangerous environment.

Love Y'all!!

I've been keeping an eye on the Provape specials section since I realized they occasionally slip a new blem 2.5 in with different colors. Today, it paid off when a blue one showed up for $29.95. I snatched one up. Almost bought a stainless steel one for $39.95 the other day but decided to hold off. Glad I did since I've regretted not getting a blue one when they had so many colors available a few weeks back. Bingo!

I now have a full-sized 2.5 in Zinkote gun metal, a satin silver (gray) mini and the blue one on the way. I not only love the devices but they give me some comfort in these unsure times because of their reputation for durability.
