The exact same thing happened to me. But I just came here and told you about it and let you educate me. I did not run to a TV station crying hell and destruction and blaming vaping and the mod when it was totally my fault for not knowing what I was doing. Sure it is a scary experience (apart from being painful) but before you blame someone or something else you need to make sure it wasn't your fault in the first place. I pity the man who is resigned to the "slow death" from cigarette smoking.

Nothing is anyone's fault these days. It is always someone else's fault or the "evil" "greedy" "rich people's" fault. Little jimmy lost his baseball game. Well the pitcher was bigger than the other kids, sally had a tummy ache, the sun was in juniors eyes. Excuses for everything.

Dang I didn't know I wasn't supposed to stick my hands in the lawnmower while the blade was going in circles. The warning on the lawn mower was covered up with dried grass. That warning label should be much clearer and not be able to attract grass. It is their fault.

Yeah but those types of mods are an accident waiting to happen.
At least have a delrin ring in the top of them.

As much as I favour education over regulation, I do believe they should be banned. At the very least they should carry a detailed manual with cautions and instructions.

Some days I feel like some humans should be banned or at least have a sign around their neck stating " I am an idiot". A manual for them would be wonderful!:)

I could quote Einstein: "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." But I can't really do that. I've been in the same situation as this chap and the fault was my ignorance, which, as we say in law - is no excuse. But I don't blame him for the ignorance. I blame him for shifting the blame on someone else, going on TV to get the limelight, threatening to sue when all he is entitled to say is "mea culpa".

This reminds me of the hatred of Big Tobacco by former smokers.....
They made me do it!

I read your post. You reasoned and learned from your experience. There is nothing wrong with that. 10 bucks this dude bought something similar and is using it right now, siting around with his friends saying, "hey, dudes! Look at me I am on the Teeee Veee!". Well maybe that's not fair of me..

In as much as I feel this was user error IMHO some of this falls back on the the creators of pseudo-hybrids, which personally I believe should not even exist, and with the sellers, if he bought it local versus online, which, I have to agree probably a good percentage of B&M employees are clueless themselves about these mods if my last visit to a local B&M is any indication of the serious lack of equipment knowledge some possess.

That is quite right. The day before my accident happened I had been using the SMPL practically all day - with a Derringer RDA on top of it. It was perfectly fine and I was loving it. probably because of the near zero voltage drop. Then the next day I put my protank on it and kaboom! I didn't know about protruding centre pins - I assumed if one atty worked then all would. But that assumption was wrong. I should have researched better. Since then I have not taken a single new step before coming here to ask about it first.

That would be an example of We are not smart enough for such devices.
Sorry, but the 4Nine is an excellent example of a very good Quasi-Hybrid Mod....in the right hands.

I understand Atomizer 510 lengths, center pin protrusion and their part in safely using a Mod of this type.

No, I do not like SMPL style mods but again that is My preference.

(They should at least come with Manuals):( While I 100% agree - Most come out of China and Consumer support seems to override concern for education.

Basically, and this is strictly my own opinion, No we are not smart enough for such devices when you combine everyone worldwide that is vaping including beginners as a whole... and I say this because the online communities where someone is more likely to receive good information and become educated on safer use of mods like this represent such a small percentage of that whole. Even experienced users run into dangerous problems with pseudo-hybrids and really mech mods in general enough that putting one into the hands of someone who is clueless is like handing someone a gun for the first time and as they are walking out the door telling them to just keep it pointed away from themselves when they go to fire it, ...some vapers are not even getting that much information.

I disagree to an extent. I don't always put the onus on the seller. The buyer needs to know what they are getting themselves into. They should research on any product instead of relying on the manufacturer to "hold their hands".

I don't use something until I fully understand it. If I do, I generally accept the risk and that I am fault.

I also wouldn't say we aren't smart enough. It more like we are too lazy to figure things out.. or ask for help.

Would a reasonable person go out and buy a hang glider and then just go to the highest mountain top they could find and jump off? Would the same person just go to ebay and buy a parachute and then go find a charter plan to take him to a altitude he thought was reasonable and jump out?

The Freedom to do what one wants comes with a high level of responsibility, you can not separate the two and retain either.

    Agree:
Some former climbing friends died this past year. Who do you hold responsible when a mountain starts shaking?

The words been out for a couple of years now that hybrid top caps have a problem.
