PRODIGY: Stick With The Old OR Go With The New ???

New Prodigy Redesign ... or ... Stick with the Old Prodigy Design

  • New Prodigy - (Smaller ... And likely a 5v only device)

  • Old Prodigy - (A Bit Smaller, with Vast Improvements) Still 3.7/5v/6v device

I'm so sorry! i didn't read that far back...

Ha-ha don't be, I was just pointing it out because we both came up with the names lol. It's a poll, so it's cool we agree. :)

I definitely believe in the birth of a 5v-only device, but think the option to get a variable voltage device should remain available for those who are fans - i.e. the percentage of people who actually change voltages on their prodigy regularly.

I say keep both the prodigy and protege both in production, while making improvements as needed. Keep track by grouping improvements - i.e. use v1, v2 etc. After all it's not as if these things have serial numbers. But also make a 3rd model (5v only) and call it something equally confusing, like the proteron.

I like this idea, a 5v only, a 3.7 only, and a souped up mutil-volt device is the way to go, i would order both for sho.

LOL! i made the connection about naming it after i read your first post, this only made it funnier...

i actually think the poll speaks loud an clear on the 2 new devices idea :-x if they sold 1200 (i thought the number was) this poll is only a small percentage of the buyers out there, and if this sample crowd is split i'm guessing the other 1100+ confirmed people would be split just as well...

i vote make a tiny 5v, and keep the prodigy as the do all end all..

actually... depending on the size of the device (and sping on end cap) couldn't 2x CR2's be the 5+v option... and the 14500 be the 3.7? (bad move for the protege tho... then again a small change in the protege would make it 5+v compatible... :-x) i think the difference was 1mm on diameter, and a couple on the length, take up the slack length for the 14500 in a larger spring, and make it so the diameter of the CR2 fits tight.

now i'm just going too far with my ideas... back to brainstorming a cartridge REPLACEMENT.

maybe we should start a brainstorming group on how to design and bribe steve to build a kickass cartridge system that is a direct cart replacement... :-x <-woops wrong face :thumb:

Same here. I already mentioned that in a previous post, but it bears repeating. The trade off in size would be enough for me. I use my Prodigy at 5v exclusively. Having a smaller barrel would be awesome. I'd be fine with keeping my V1 for 6v, getting a Protege for 3.7v and a V2 for 5v. Seems like a best case scenario for Puresmoker.

That makes plenty of sense !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):):):):)

How about something non-confusing? Call it the...

I'm putting in a vote for the old Prodigy. I just love the versatility of different battery sets and voltages. I'm just loving my 801 at 5V but so nice to have a change of pace and quickly screw on a 510 at 3.7V. Really nice product and that adaptability is what really sold me! Hope I can continue to get parts for awhile too :)
In fact, I love it so much I made a quick mod to it which maybe you should incorporate in a new model, haha. Just cut a slot on the bottom end, when I get home I take out the batteries and install my dowel rod with thumbtacks on either end, wire goes out the slot, power'd by a variable AC to DC converter, SWEET! Course hate to dampen the passthrough business but my Prodigy does it all, it's my only vape for all occasions!
Keep up the good work, and thanks!!

I'm all in for the new one but I don't think it's wise to get rid of the old one.

The numbers are close enough for a draw ~:)

As a very happy Prodigy/Protege/Pass Thru user, I actually do like the Prodigy for it's versatility. If I want a long life 3.7 it is... if I want a 5v it is... if I want a 6v it is... That is what makes the Prodigy such a great device to have in my arsenal. I vote that you keep it the same adaptable device that it is now. I like the idea of going with Stainless and the other improvements would be nice, and I would have to buy another one if that were the end result. But I feel if it goes to a 5v only deal I would pass. Sometimes I just don't like the HV for some reason. 5v is the "Sweet spot" most certainly no doubt. But the 18650 is one bad mutha also. I do wish it were easier to change from 5v to 3.7 though. Maybe an easily removable resistor.... That is just my $0.02.

So, my question .... With all the improvements we made over the V1 span, would you guys like to see a complete redesign that would likely be 5v exclusively, or would you prefer the old design, simply made out of Stainless Steel, with all the improvements (notched end cap ... smaller spring/press fitted, perhaps even smaller adapters, etc....) and keep it a 3.7v, 5v, and 6v optioned device?

Short answer: Yes!

I had originally been saving up to purchase the Prodigy V1, but when I read that they were being redesigned into a 5v only device I began having reservations.

I've yet to try a mod that does anything more than 3.7v, but I have decided that if I'm going to spend 100$+ on another e-cigarette, then I'd like it to be a multi voltage device like the Prodigy V1.

In a perfect world, it would also have an integrated USB charger/passthrough similiar to the Janty Stick (which I own and am using now).

When I saw that the Prodigy V1 was unavailable and likely the new version would be awhile off, I went back and forth wrestling with which high end mod to purchase.. the Silver Bullet, Chuck, etc.. but after weighing the pros and cons of them all and comparing them to reviews of your products, I kept coming back to Puresmoker's website. So I purchased a Protege and the newly redesigned USB Passthrough. I figured I would use the PT at home and the Protege on the go.

I wasn't satisfied at all with my purchase though.. I wasn't getting what I had originally set out to buy though.. So yesterday I cancelled both my orders (which I had placed around this time last month) and I'm currently awaiting news on the progress of the Prodigy V2.

I figured it would be best to wait and invest in an ecig that I know I'll thoroughly enjoy, rather than be impatient and settle for the products that are available now.

I really hope you make it function just like the original in terms of being a multi voltage device, and I'm hopeful that you'll integrate that cam switch that I read about in another thread and use stainless steel. I also hope that you take other suggestions and try to make the device as small as you can without sacrificing quality of course.

This in my opinion would be the ultimate e-cigarette.

If you're going to design a strictly 5v device, which I'm sure there's probably a demand for, then I'd rather see it as a completely seperate product on your store, sold along side the Prodigy and Protege.

Let's say that you make different adapters, by just changing the center metallic point of the adapter, in a way that each metal used from one adapter to another, and by extension each adapter, would give a different resistance.

Would it be possible then to build 3.7V and 4.3V and 5V and 6V adapters for each atomizer's type?

This way, the tube (with its 2x RCR123 ) and a normal contact point switch, would be the fixed part, and only the atomizers adapters, would be the interchangeable parts that would decide on the voltage and the type of atomizer.

Keep the tube as small as possible, keep the switch as simple as possible and just work on the adapters.

I'm not an expert in this but does it sound possible or even logical?

BrockJ, wow, I really like the looks of that polished prodigy with black lettering, awesome. Hmm, if PS makes a variable voltage prodigy in stainless that looks like that ... I might have to consider, even if my old adapters don't fit!

Thanks....
I have two so I thought I'd polish one to see what it'd look like.
Only took about thirty minutes to do the whole thing.
It's actually a lot different than the original and it's really cool to the touch. "Kinda Strange"

Looks much better in person. Couldn't find a light source that wouldn't bounce off of it.
Didn't have my photo cube here at the house. Gonna shoot some better pics when I get it back. (Can't let people borrow anything anymore)

Mind if I ask what you used to polish it? Seems anything fine would get gunked up quickly, yet how to avoid taking the black coating out of the lettering?
I don't know, I think it looks pretty awesome as is. One of these days I'll figure out how to upload pics on the forum, tried the other day, but no success, even though my file size and all seemed within the parameters, but ... that's another topic.
Awesome job!

Started with 380 grit wet dry paper under the faucet in the kitchen to take off all the black, then hit it with 800 grit wet dry and them used Mothers Aluminum Polish on a buffer wheel.

I had to put the pics on a site like picassa and then link to them.
I get the linked data and then click on the little picture icon (14th from the right on the bottom row of the posting window). Insert the link data and they appear.
It's a problem with the new servers.
