That makes sense, 100%, and is great to know, but the important tidbit for me is that a '510 to 510 shorty' adapter makes it work perfectly. So something about that extra 5-6mm must resolve the diameter, somehow. Anyway, I'm actually happier (overall) that it doesn't fit perfectly, because if it did, there would be no attractive (ie can't see it) way to make the draw tighter than using gear. ;) I don't hate the 'airy' draw, either, because it makes it easier to use things like tighter cartos, and I can adjust that with an adapter (which most of the time you can barely see). I use 100% VG juice, so eventually my cartos get very hard to hit... just tighter and tighter. And I can use em a good 2 weeks longer on the metal tube, as long as I take off the adapter. lol So yeah, its sort of a pain in the tail to use an adapter, but I really like that I can 'adjust' the airflow on my tube to use gear that won't work on any other device. ;) Anyway, if anyone is considering one, and thinks the adapters will be a hassle, I have a little photo tut on my ecf blog that'll show you exactly what I mean. lol

"So something about that extra 5-6mm must resolve the diameter, somehow."

Yes, in that the adapter will fit inside the vision because it has a 9.5mm diameter, the 510 connection on the device won't because it is larger.

The other flaw of the connector is the airy draw. The draw is to airy because the air vents at the top of the connector are too deep and allow too much air to get in. I fixed tht by grinding down the fitting until the air slots were the right size. Very easy fix if you have the right tool and are handy. But I can't fix the oversize diameter problem.

You just quoted my daily internal monologue verbatim LOL :)

But a solid VV box mod with a digital display seems harder to come by; well mad vapes has one, but I saw complaints about it "getting hot"

Hi Cyrus, I've had a MV Box Mod with display for several months and it hasn't given me any problems of heating up but I usaully have it set in the 5v range. I can imagine it getting warm at 4v or less due to the heat from regulating the voltage down to that level. Just tested mine at 3v and it definitely get hot after several 5 second draws. A test at 4v and one would have to chain vape to get it more than just warm and at 5v I couldn't puff enough to get it even warm. This all done with a 1.6ohm DC Echo.

I just saw that carlton replied to my post a few pages back asking about that vapor alley one. I don't know if this is accurate, but carlton usually knows his stuff. He said that the vapor alley one is a v2 (ie 4amp) because they changed the end cap design between 1.5 and 2, and the caps on the vapor alley one are the v2 caps. So I dunno... really hoping that is the 4 amp one, cause when I get one it'll be tube alone. I dunno if that's true or not, though, cause the ccv listing for the v 1.5 doesn't show the end caps, oddly enough. I know a guy who just got one of those today, I'll ask him what the caps look like.

and yeah, I'm with you on the lambo. I'm just calling that 'chrome' but that's what I'm really excited about too. Or copper would be ideal. You get a pv in gorgeous metal body, 4 amps, built in resistance meter... poor man's provari, right there. ;)

Rachel, I agree that Carlton seems to be on top of things and the fact that it has the new head would indicate it is the V2 4amp unit. I have a contact form into them asking for assurance that it is a 4amp unit and will buy one if they assure me it is. Will let you know if/when I hear back from them.

Edit: Just got this confirmation back from Vapor Alley, doesn't explain the V1.5 listing but I ordered one based on their assurance.

"Hi Errol, Yes, these are the 4 Amp units. One way to tell is the top is domed instead of flat."

Thanks, Errol! Would love to know for sure one way or another. I'm not quite able to buy just yet, but I have lots of people asking me, and I'd hate to give them the wrong info. ;) lol I'd feel just terrible about that.

Hold off a few days and I test to make sure it's 4amp. Sure don't want to be shipping anymore back, it's a PITA.

Well, it's been 10 days since I got mine from Vapor Beast. I'm using Boge 3.0s in a cut down DCT tank mostly, and really enjoying my new VV unit. I still haven't done any voltage testing, really I guess I only care that it works well. And so far, it works very well. It's made it through a couple of road trips for Mothers Day and a graduation. It's made it through a crazy 60 hour work week, and it has survived a couple of falls out of my toolbelt onto concrete with only cosmetic damage, a couple of spots on the knurling on the bottom cap that there's some silver showing through. It gets banged around a lot at work, I currently work in a factory and I'm in and out of a forklift a lot, and wrestling heavy metal parts throughout the day. I have a coworker who's tried some ecigs like the Blu, and I let him have a few vapes. He about choked on the first one, he had no idea you could get that kind of volume and throat hit from vaping. That's the key point to me...being able to get a good satisfying drag.

Cheers!

K... really important, make sure you get set the setting on the WP2 charger to .5A charging setting. You only wanna use the 1A setting if the batteries you're charging are each over 1000mah, or so I've been told, and since not all of them are, better safe than sorry. Also, important little detail since the manual you get with the charger is such bad translation.. if you want to charge something with a usb on your charger... say a passthrough battery... you have to have a battery IN the charger to do it, and then you set the setting to 0 on the switch. ;) Other than that, its cake and totally self explanatory. If you end up getting the ovale, which takes 18350s, you'll need to get 2 spare 'spacers' for the charger (you can buy em for .50 cents a pop at RTD Vapor... with shipping, 2 spacers is like $3), but that only matters if you want to charge more than one 18350 at a time. If you're just charging 1, then the two spacers you get with the charger... stacked... are enough to charge one. ALSO, RTD vapor has the best deal on AW IMR 18350 Batteries (great deal on all AW's actually), I think they're like $7.50 each... so if you get JUST the ovale body, you can just pick up 2 batts and 2 spacers there, and then just get body alone at discount vapers. The 18650s you need for the LT... you can go either AW IMR 18650 from RTD (or other places, that's the best price I found on em hunting a little today) OR, you can go to orbtronic, and get the killer 2200mah Panasonic IMR (they're a special kind of hybrid chemistry imr, though... different than AW or any other IMR... they last longer) and get those. Again, you don't wanna use any other over 2000mah IMR, in the lavatube, cause nothing higher than 2000mah fits except for these amazing panny's. Hope that helps! Either way, you're doing better than getting the kit, and either way you'll have a great vape, and in the safest way possible, with an intelligent charger and great quality imrs. ;)

Oh, and also, if you do get the ovale, don't forget that it takes 2 18350imrs to work... so you really do need to get 4 total, so you have spares while they're charging. Gosh, you know, considering that... unless you LOVE the idea of the hand sized unit over the tube, if you compare the 4amp, ohm meter Lavatube v2 for $50 plus 2 panny 18650s at $8.90 each, to the body only ovale at DV for $30, PLUS 4 18350 AW IMRs for $7.50 each... you're not saving much by going with the ovale, really. If I had to choose one, for unit you'll be thrilled to death with longest, it would definitely be the Lavatube v2, with the 4amp switch. But you have to promise if you do that you'll grab that 'safe vaping' chart I sent you link to, so you know what voltage to vape each ohm carto/atty at, so you don't fry a bunch of your gear. lol That's always something vv brings to the table, so you just have to be aware of it.
Panny 2200mah 18650 IMR hybrid $8.89 (flat top, don't click the link to the button tops, they don't fit)
CGR18650CH Panasonic 18650 Li-Mn-Li-ion CGR18650CH High Drain 10A Rechargeable IMR Hybrid Battery Cell

AW IMR 18350s at RTD vapor (also where you get the spacers for the WP2 charger) - $7.60
http://www.rtdvapor.com/AW-IMR-18350-AW-IMR-18350.htm

And holy moly! You weren't kidding on that 310 vapers price on the wp2 charger! $13.50 is ridiculous on that! Most places are like $22! I swear, they had it listed higher than that when I checked a week ago. lol Killer find, Kaleb! Gonna tell the noobies in case any of them are hunting one.

I just read a lot of posts. lol

The only thing that bothered/bothers me is the V1.5 listing. The factories can put that metal head on any LavaTube or variant and ship it. Not sure the vendor really knows what he is getting so I won't be comfortable until I have tested it. If USPS is up to par I should have it Thurs or Fri.

This is probably old news to everyone, but Eric confirmed with me that the V8 Ovale is 2.5 amp limited. Still a sweet deal. I can't see myself pushing a 2.0 ohm carto any higher than 4.7ish anyway.

Now I say that, once I get a VV i'll probably be the lunatic going at a 1.5 DCC at 7 volts LOL
