Look at it this way:

I have a 26650 Chi You mech that uses 3500mah MNKE cells.

With a 1.2ohm single coil on a Perseus Genny I can vape all day.

There is really nothing to break.

It does the same thing, every time and will keep on doing so for years.

I have 2 cells for it and expect at least a year out of those.

It's a very well made clone and cost 15 bucks.

What's not to like?

(It also looks great)

Eric

How much does it weigh? How big is it? Does it fit in a pants pocket, or do you have to put it under your coat like a shotgun? ;)

What Ω are you running? I use 1.5, give or take. Lasts me quite a while. However, you can always use a kick-- that is what it is for.

If I used a kick, then I might as well use a regulated mod. I've been toking almost exclusively with 2.2 ohm cartos for a while, so you'd think a mech would last longer than a regulated mod. But it doesn't, and it's because that battery that is useless in a mech because it dropped below 3.5V is still going strong in most (but definitely not all) regulated mods.

Mech with a kick--at that point you almost have a regulated device, and you won't be able to fix the kick if it breaks any more than you would be able to fix a regulated mod.

Yes, you do have a regulated device is using a mech with a kick. But when the kick eventually dies, you just take it out and can still vape. Think "insurance." Hope you never have to use it, but good to have if you need it.

The good news is this--the vaping industry (and I know I'm asking for trouble even mentioning it--but it's absolutely true) sprang from the drug paraphenalia business,

As WE have it now, it did come from a pharmacist - but not the paraphenalia business...

If I used a kick, then I might as well use a regulated mod.

Yep, that's what I do. And my mechs and kicks are in the "break glass in emergency" box.

Likewise; I really prefer my regulated mods, so I use those -- but I have 2 mechs, each with a Kick, and 3 extra Kicks that I got in a great sale on Hoosier e-cigs, as backup -- just because I don't really want to vape a mech without a Kick. Hopefully I'll never have to, but they're there if I need them.

The FDA paranoia gets silly at some point. If there is some sort of ban, and there is not at this time, then you will also find it difficult to get tanks, connectors, and such. All of your rebuilding supplies won't be much good unless you're really handy and have some really good power tools.

Ace hardware has all kinds of connectors, so what if it isn't 510. Would take me all of about five minutes to turn a coax connector into a RDA.

I have 4 mechanicals sitting in front of me right now, only 1 has a kick in it.
One of the advantages of starting to vape before there was much in the way regulated mods is that I know how to tootle puff with a mechanical.
My favorite mechanical has a little bitty 14500 in it, and fits in my pocket quite nicely. It also fits in a 'mini mag' flashlight holster.

As I know it, vaping has been around for centuries, in various forms. I bought an electronic vaporizer in 1993. I bought a portable battery operated one in 2001. It was a MODified flashlight that a company was actually modifying and selling to heat up herbs in a chamber, so that the herbs' resins would--vaporize. The chamber looked almost identical to a cartomizer, and several American and Canadian companies were making versions of it around that time.

The links you cite are kinda sanitized and seem to skip over a few decades. This is definitely an uncomfortable truth, but it is the truth.

And I made a guitar string retainer last night out of a broken piece of buffalo horn.:D

I also have a mod that I made from a Zippo lighter and a video game battery. I used a 510 connector, but I could have adapted something else if I had needed to. I could even make a very crude regulator with an op amp chip. But most people lack such talents.

Necessity is the mother of invention, and the War on Vaping will turn out the same ways all of their other "Wars" on the American people. People always find a way around. You and I might find ourselves making mods and attys in our garages for other people.

I'm sure that you'd never do anything like that, though. ;) It would probably be illegal. You can see how effective making vices illegal are in not eradicating them.

Up next for the War On Stuff People Actually Like will be the government declaring fantasy football to be illegal gambling.

The Chi You with a Perseus genesis is huge, heavy and all that. I have carried it in the pocket of my jeans a lot.
Guess my time in the military made me somewhat immune to heavy big gear. Not for everyone tho.

All my regulated and one TC mod cut out at around 3.5V, So no diff there. I have vaped down mechs to lower than that.

To each their own. I have, at least, gained some insight into why mech mods are as popular as they are.

For my pocket, I love my P3 Ti in 18350 mode. About 4 oz with a battery and glass cartotank. On my workbench, there's the eVic TC. The pic is real, although I usually keep it in what was meant to be a tape measure holder.

That's a 22mm cartotank sitting on top of that eVic. What can I say? I guess we all have our preferences.

I too have built mods, both regulated and mechanical. I also have enough material should I have to build more. I also have enough DIY liquid to last a pretty long time. But I can honestly say if vaping was totally banned and you could not get a hold of anything to buy or make, I don't think I would panic like I might have when I was addicted to cigarettes. That's not to say I won't fight for our rights to vape, it's just that I'm over the withdrawal thing. At this point, as much as I enjoy vaping, I find it's become more of a hobby to me than an addiction. Hope I'm making sense here.

perfect sense to me as well. I feel the same. I think if I was still smoking and they said they were banning cigarettes, I would have moved countries :p but now even though I fight the good fight in behalf of vaping I feel that vaping is what I do rather than who I am and I will never go back to smoking cigarettes.

    Today's Humor......

After a relaxing bath, Monica Lewinsky was looking at herself naked in a mirror ... remembering her time with Bill Clinton.
Her frustration over her inability to lose weight was depressing her. In an act of desperation, she decided to call on God for help.
"God, if you take away my love handles, I'll devote my life to you," she prayed.
And just like that ...... her ears fell off!
    Touching story, isn't it?

The greatest virtue of the american people has always been that most of us don't give a ratsazz what the gov't thinks. It's only lately that the fascists have made headway into that, trying to convince people to completely ignore what they like in favor of being "respectful" to others, since they clearly haven't the faintest idea what the word "courtesy" even means, so they try to stress this idea of giving "respect" when it hasn't been earned.

Fortunately there are still a few of us who don't give a ratsazz what the gov't thinks, or even the fascist do-gooders-so-we-can-make-a-profit-off-you folks.

It cost me $2.20 to make this, and I'm quite sure most school kids could do the same. The cat got out of the bag quite some time ago.
