I am loving all of the creative things folks are doing!!! I want to have fun, too.

Quick question... What is the best vinyl for a somewhat crafty person if I want to use it to print a design using an inkjet printer?

I think Papilio is generally considered to be a reliable brand. I used the Papilio Inkjet White Waterproof Vinyl from this sample pack. I'm sure you could also find something on eBay or Amazon.

I stopped in Office Depot to get more ink and found office depot brand white matte finish bumper sticker labels. It says it's water resistant and special adhesive to allow repositioning. I'll play with it tomorrow and see how it goes.

Your post jogged my memory to mention that the waterproof vinyl holds up to water and juice but not to handling. The printing rubs off fairly easily. It needs to be covered in clear vinyl to protect it. Office Depot might have something if you don't want to order the Papilio sample pack.

I can't wait to hear the results! For design purposes, what graphics program would anyone suggest? Photo shop? Art Rage? Corel?

It's probably a good idea to start with a program that is well within your comfort zone to use. What people like and dislike about graphics programs tends to be fairly personal.

I personally haven't seen one. I would guess that it would have to be thinner near the buttons so that you could press them. I have seen a couple with a leather sheath, but those were custom and I'm guessing costly. Interesting thought though...are you feeling craftsy? Maybe you can be the first

Ok I ended up just using the drill press to make the holes...............Im happy with the finished project

I always use butted seams but I would think that a 5 mm overlap would work pretty well. Maybe someone who uses overlapped seams can chime in with what they find works best for them.

I'm so glad that the drill press worked out for you and thanks for posting pix. I never had any luck using a Dremel or hand drill and never thought to use the drill press. That will be a welcome option for those who have a drill press and don't want to use the more tedious option of using an X-Acto knife or buying punches.

Well for the fire button, I used an old 510 cardo as a punch. placed it on my work bench and lined up the cardo with the template and gave it a tap with a hammer. seem to be the same size as the fire buttom...

Looks good! I'm going to do the same thing with a gunmetal one. I do have a drill press. I like my SS like it is. Where did you order wrap material?

I got all of mine on eBay. some from the U.S and some from Chine. Search for "3d carbon vinyl". There is also some snakeskin patterns available now but I haven't tried that yet.

Yes. The 3d vinyl sticks well but is easily repositionable and comes off easily.
