i've been in contact with a 3M rep concerning our requirements and exportability.. I'll speak with him again on Monday.
I am optimistic.

In the meantime, I'd suggest holding off on making large purchases from Omega.

It's my objective to have 3M accommodate all of us.

The export restriction only refers to longer lengths of Nextel sleeving. So simply have them pre-cut it into smaller segments. If you are outside of the US, call 3M directly (Phone: 651-733-1110).

one less thing to worry about.. :vapor:

Zoranth, you'll need to ask one of two 3M reps to provide you with definitions.. For me it was enough to get a green light for our needs (for use as a wick) and put Imeo in contact with him to work out the details.

Since you are in the states there is no limit..

Maye the best thing to do is order a couple hundred feet, heat clean then heat treat it then cut it to length and send it to Imeo. He can figure out how he wants to handle it from there. The wick only needs to be 1.5 - 1.7" any longer would be a waste of the product. A 100 foot piece would be enough for 800 1.5" wicks. This comes out to $0.19 each wick

nice breakdown but you're only assuming 312.
440 probably makes the better wick.

Do you think 1.5" is ideal?

The ceramic wick only needs to extend down to the top of the lower plastic piece. which is roughly 1.5 inches of wick.

No one has tried the 440 yet and actually I do not see a need for the higher temp capacity of the 440 but to each their own. I wouldn't pay the extra money for the higher temp that I would no feel is needed.

Imeo has.
i wasn't even considering the temp capacity, really.

Supposedly the 440 is more resistant to abrasion, that's what dream is speaking of. It might last much longer than the 312. I guess if it lasts more than twice as long, then it is worth the double price tag.

Exactly.
I'm almost hoping that it doesn't last that long... so we can eliminate 440.
But that remote possibility that it will (live longer by a factor of 2 or more) keeps me up at night ;)
(half-joking... as it's already 3:20am)

I got some 440 from a friend recently and tried it out yesterday with great results. I haven't used the 312, so no direct comparisons are possible, but it really works great @ 3.7V/1.3 ohm coil/32g kanthal & COV bare nickel no res wire. As I currently didn't have a dremel, and wanted instant gratification, I followed poppa d's method of unravelling the ceramic into seperate strands first and torching them well before wrapping the coil. The strands seemed to fit into the ceramic slots just right.

With the pink sizing, it was certainly easy to see when the wick was fully cleaned off. Again, haven't tried 312, and this stuff does shed some of those little pieces when handling it, but it held together quite well during assembly after just a good torching.

Then, put everything together, tightened well, trimmed the strands to fit and fired it up on the GGTS. So good. No leaks after a day. Great draw. Clean, intense really pure taste, huge clouds, not much TH as I vape 6mg, but really good for me at least:laugh:. Wicks great even with all VG. Very impressed, now to see about longevity...hope it holds up!
Really great vape though, I'll be trying this at higher voltages soon!

The 312's heat rating does seem like more than enough for our needs. I just had to share after I stumbled across some of the high-end stuff.:vapor:
