It says the 440 has a color tint to it. Let us know if it changes to pure white after you burn the sizing off. If it does then the color burned off also and if it doesn't then I hope the color is imbedded in the ceramic and not something that can be inhaled by the user.

Ace, the sizing is tinted. In their technical notebook, it says after it is heat treated it will be pure white in color. They color the sizing depending on what material (nextel 312, nextel 440 nextel 610 etc).

Imeo, It's very important to be safe. I've spent hours and hours researching this before I decided to try it. I'm not willing to risk my health on a whim. It is a very important point to remind people that taking things at face value isn't always a wise idea. Everyone trying anything that Imeo hasn't researched, needs to be very diligent in their research. Everyone in the GG community (and the vaping community as a whole) needs to be, and remain, healthy and happy.

i asked the "temperature engineer" at the omega website that jonah linked about burning off the coating and i let him know what i intended on using it for. He said instructions are included and he said that there should be no "out gassing", meaning that there should be no chemicals or anything coming off the wick when its heated

Once the sizing is gone it becomes unhardened refractory ceramic, extremely inert and non reactive. Pretty cool stuff really.

As far as taste, I was a chef for 13 years, and my palate is pretty sensitive. The original wick honestly just couldn't keep up with me and HV chain vaping  This stuff just sucks up the juice, if you put a drop on it, it is quickly absorbed. Most silica based wicks that I have used don't act with the same affinity for our juices, and yet it doesn't flood either. I just dump my juice in an go, literally for 3 days :) The vapor production and density is just unreal to me. I honestly haven't touched my UFS since I put this wick in. The iAtty has it beat hands down, in this configuration. Just my honest opinion and it's worth what you paid for it!

I know it is slightly off topic but at the begining of the thread someone mentioned a video Imeo made with the eas y to remove wick method. I saw mention of it in the iAtty assembling video but can't find the actual video. Can anyone link it please? I am guessing you just put the coil in the ceremic and lay the wick on top but the video would be nice.

Here you go:

Making a longer lasting coil and changing the wick without changing wire part 1
Making a longer lasting coil and changing the wick without changing wire part 2
Making a longer lasting coil and changing the wick without changing wire part 3

BTW: You can find all videos referencing Iatty at GG ECIGS AUSTRALIA - the australian seller:2cool:

are you wraping the coil around the wick or putting the wick on top of the coil?

I put the wick on top of the coil. I am currently using the wick that came with the IAtty and I find it lasts longer. Plus my second coil was a perfect 2.0ohm that I must say is beautiful to look at and I would hate to have to replace it too soon so I prefer this method. I have some XC-116 coming and I can't wait to try it.

well crap, i gave in...you made this stuff sound incredible and now i can't wait! just have to go grab a torch, unless holding it over the gas range on the stove will do the trick? seems like it would since the flames probaby reach around the same temp...but would be great to find out for sure. anyone?

I would suggest high heat to be on the safe side. You can get a torch at any hardware store or even use a torch lighter......those suckers are mini blow torches.

silent, try just working the wick into the channels gently with your fingernail. Don't pull it super tight or it frays by the ceramic cup. Easy does it. Once you get it in there (It will almost completely go into the channels, the cone is a bit tight. My first one frayed like yours did. The second one was more successful for me, the third attempt, has been good so far :)

Just take your time, some gently coaxing into the channels. It even requires a gentle "squishing" (gratuitous technical jargon) to get it in the cup. You will get the hang of it. Vape on your UFS while you tinker on the iAtty

Well I thought it was perfect but the wick was falling apart when I was trying to put the cone on. It went everywhere and it was just a mess. I didn't even torch it that long and it was doing this, I'm having bad luck with my iAtty and supplies. I'll try again and hope I get better results.

Actually being generous with the torch will only start the hardening process. I'm contemplating firing some in my kiln, to their hardening specifications, just to see what it's like.

I have noticed if I get it good and glowing hot with my torch for longer than an instant, that the fibers are less apt to come apart, the whole structure become more resiliant, and frays less. So maybe give it some more heat with the torch until it firms up a bit when cool.
