HAPPY BIRTHDAZE !
Killed his otterbox? How on earth did he do that? Removing it every week to examine the insides of his phone to see if anything changed? You guy's talking about destroying cell phones got me to thinking my kid killed his otterbox, so it was a reminder to go looking for a new case.
You guy's talking about destroying cell phones got me to thinking my kid killed his otterbox, so it was a reminder to go looking for a new case. I just ordered a alum. " love mei" for his phone and I found one for mine also. Both from the same U. S. company. $45 looks like a good price for some Kid Proofing, cheaper then replacing the phone. We can start a pool on how long it takes Kellen to beat up this one.
Fire? What did I miss?
No candles involved! The fire was the bottom heating element in my oven self-destructing. Burned in half about 3 inches from where it plugs into the back of the oven. I turned on the oven & to took off. Not much smoke because I immediately turned it off. Opened the door & looked & the end of the element was bright red. Not the stub going into the back of the oven. The other piece. It wasn't dimming at all, so I hit it with the fire extinguisher. Maintenance came & replaced the element, but i'm not trusting the oven, now. It burned & broke at a spot about 2-3" from the plug in the back. I'm afraid that the plug is the issue, or was damaged by the heat from the fire.No fire. Lots of birthday candles. I thought she was talking about a fire too. You don't drop a post like that and run! Had me worried for her for a while.
Oops! I'll be 59, not 69. I guess I was more tired than I realized.Clnire and Dancing: You sure you did the math right? Mike is saying he turned 69 today. Him I can believe, but you two?
Same here. It'll do in a pinch for very short spurts. But, forget about relaxing and browsing! That little screen drives me crazy!Uh, UH....thanks for the suggestion, but my eyes already take a beating with all the computer work I do. I'd go blind trying to read on my phone.
It's funny how some of these old sayings touch deeper than others. This one feels pretty deep, like maybe from my grandmother instead of my mother.I am too so good Iffy......
there was a little girl
Who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead
And when she was good
She was very, very good
And when she was bad
She was......BETTER
It's a good thing you didn't walk away too fast to notice it.No candles involved! The fire was the bottom heating element in my oven self distructing. That.s great! Nothing like being able to sleep, get up, & go right back to sleep!Night all. It's that time again. I have been sleeping much better. Bed around 9 and up around 7 in the morning. Solid all night cept for several potty breaks![]()
First indication of a problem was when the cookie sheet I had set on top started rattling like crazy. And the buzzing sound. I turned it off at once, but left the door shut in case there was a fire. Sure enough a little bit of smoke crept out of the vents on top, so I grabbed the extinguisher & opened the door. That element looked like it had a lump of red hotcoal on the end! So I shot it.It's a good thing you didn't walk away too fast to notice it.
I wonder if there's any way to tell if the plug is the cause or if it was damaged. Without spending a bunch of money on an electrician, that is.
Ha! My concern isthat it was so close to the plug in the back. It's like it was right at the plug in.Ahh those hot spots on coil legs....
The oven is likely ok. Oven heating elements tend to burn out is a particular spot. Which particular spot and why is another question. I assume slight defects in manufacture that takes a long time to show as a weak spot?
If the element connector itself was not burned or something then it should be fine.
Did you get a titanium one this time for better temperature control?
Ok, gotta get in there d see if it.s off color. Sister is coming toay to clean up the mess inside the oven.Dang!
But that's not uncommon for where a stove coil fails. So the connection point, unless it looks off color, is probably fine. (And many don't have "plug" per se, just quick connect clips on each end of the element. Don't know about your particular make and model, of course.)
And it's also common to find that only one end of the stove element actually goes through the switch, with the other going straight back to one side of the 240 volts, so turning off the circuit breaker is the way to go. Of course, the control knob is closer, so getting that first is good! But that's probably why it wasn't dimming - one leg of the power had now found a "path" through the metal stove.
Your stove element is electrically similar to your vape coil. They do "age", resistance goes up, hot spots happen.
(Does retired electrician count?)
And another good reason to remember to turn them all off when you leave the area!
