Ok, gotta get in there d see if it.s off color. Sister is coming toay to clean up the mess inside the oven.
As long as the connector does not look melted or burned it is likely ok. They do get hot so some discoloration is normal. Also it is normal to get some smoke when you first fire up a new heating element.

No candles involved! The fire was the bottom heating element in my oven self-destructing. Burned in half about 3 inches from where it plugs into the back of the oven. I turned on the oven & to took off. Not much smoke because I immediately turned it off. Opened the door & looked & the end of the element was bright red. Not the stub going into the back of the oven. The other piece. It wasn't dimming at all, so I hit it with the fire extinguisher. Maintenance came & replaced the element, but i'm not trusting the oven, now. It burned & broke at a spot about 2-3" from the plug in the back. I'm afraid that the plug is the issue, or was damaged by the heat from the fire.
When the elements go bad they don't usually burn at the plug unless the plug is bad and not making a good connection. What happens usually is the coating on the element gets a crack in it which allows heat to concentrate at that point burning through the element. If you cut power to it it would have cooled off fairly quickly. Problem now is that the powder in those fire extinguishers is fairly caustic and unless cleaned completely from every surface it will destroy the finish in fairly quick order. I think I would explain the situation and ask them to please replace the stove. After all as fine as that powder is it definately got into places you can't see. Just my opinion but a fairly well educated one. The caustic nature of Purple K powder is the main reason that those type extinguishers were not allowed in electronics spaces on board ship. We had CO2 bottles instead because it leaves no residue. Not practical in your situation due to cost.

Good advice thus far.

Had an oven element 'burn' open. What smoke there was was from the intense heat burning off food/grease residue in the compartment; as in self-cleaning mode. Element replacement was a breeze.

Mat is totally correct as to the fire extinguisher residue! Not good mojo...

Whoa Kenna, that is scary. And here I thought you were joking about the b-day candles. We had an element go twice, but it just glowed red and popped. Not much smoke so ours was simple. Just unplugged the element and put in a new one and it was fine. Might want an electrician to look at your situation just to make sure and then you can relax about it. Even if you do just replace the element, might the residue from the extinguisher cause fumes when you turn on the oven the next time?

You guy's talking about destroying cell phones got me to thinking my kid killed his otterbox,

How in the world did the kid destroy an Otterbox? My phone died before the Otterbox could even think about wearing out. Everybody laughed at my hot pink Otterbox, but I didn't care. It was on sale, and that was when I was still running parts, so yeah, it kept me from destroying my phone.

I haven't had a working oven in over ten years. When the Sears guy came over to see what was wrong with it, he quoted me something along the lines of $500. Heh heh. I just looked at him like he was crazy and said, "Well, for that much money, I can buy another one!" Therefore, it didn't get fixed. My BIL tried to fix it for me, but that didn't work.

I went out and bought a good sized toaster oven that convection bakes. The only thing I can't cook in there is a turkey. Stoves these days are NOT cheap!! The stove top works, so I'm good.

I know it's not funny, Kenna, but I can picture you firing off that extinguisher into that oven. Heh heh. And people say vaping is dangerous.

Yeah, it just took him couple of minutes to replace the element. I took pics of the damaged element while it was stiil installed. We'll see how it looks when it's cleaned off.

Yep I stuck the extinguisher inside the doorway of the oven & tapped the trigger. Voila! Fire is out & a big, fat mess bubbled out all over everything. Note to self: turn off the a/c so it doesn't kick on d spread the joy.

If anything "bubbled out" I believe it's new stove time. Just my opinion but I wouldn't eat anything out of that oven if I had a choice.

Dad ate all his pureed lunch and I finished off my bag of animal crackers. For the first time in forever, I did a small jigsaw puzzle on my laptop. Only problem was it was of bread and I can't think of anything I wouldn't do for a fresh loaf from the oven. I can almost smell it. I must have an incredible imagination.
