I ordered an Instant Pot. Can't wait to try it. :) For sure my monthly food budget will benefit because instead of buying all my legumes canned I can go back to storing them dry…much cheaper. Since my pressure cooker died I always forget to set them out to soak the night before :(.
We buy the dry bags anyway, and I forget to soak them overnight too, but start them early morning, but it isn't the same......I'm so tempted w/the I/P!!!

Now, exactly what is the difference between the pressure cooker and the Instant Pot.....from what I've read on another forum I frequent, I'm not seeing too much of a difference.
There is no essential difference.... both are pressure cookers but the Instant Pot is more versatile.

How marvelously your dad wrote!

I'm just a relative noob to cooking with an Instant Pot... 3 or 4 years.... but.... I cook a fair amount of dried beans and I do NOT soak them. They come out great. 75 to 90 minutes for kidney beans and pinto beans.... or maybe you were saying that you only soak when NOT using a pressure cooker? Anyway, my 2 cents.
If you dont havd a pressure cooker you either have to soak the beans overnight orcook them like you do for 1-3 hours depending on the beans. With a pressure cooker you dont soak

it's a pressure cooker and a slowcooker/crockpot and steamer and yogurt maker. All things i do very frequently.

Howdy just checkin in and had a question I thought @Kenna might have experience. Me an Ginny have both been cutting our p meds but she is doing it at a faster rate. She has been having terrible pain in her right foot and thought it was caused from the RA and never felt it before cause the pain was controlled. She saw her arthritis doc yesterday and he said no it is caused from that nerve that they operated on before. So she is going in for a neuropathy eval but the other thing he found was he could hardly find a pulse in both feet more in the right tho. Do you have that Kenna? She has been getting up in the morning and can hardly walk. Just thought I would check.

As far as feeding in the snow, here is my dad's take on a snowy morning (with a few notes on bird feeding) from when he was about 80: http://www.pwmeek.com/bilmeek/memoirs/snow.html
How wonderful! Thank you!

I'm not supposed to be eating canned foods because of the salt. That sounds like a good enough excuse to spend so much money, right? Can someone remind me about this once we get a house?
Just a FYI.......there are a lot of Facebook pages with recipes and other good info about the Instant Pot.
I'm posting one page, but there are many more.

Scary! Please, let us know what the doc says.
Did you guys see the eclipse this morning? It was pretty cool. We had a great view between 0430 and 0500 or so. It was kinda weird watching everything get so dark for just a couple minutes then start brightening up.
I didn't find out about it until it was over. Oh, well.

I have managed high blood pressure so I can't eat much salt although I've Always used very little anyway so I always buy low salt version cans but will be much happier when I cook my own beans to have the choice of how much or little salt I add.

We eat a lot of stews so I use my crockpot a lot. I look forward to trying the instant pot on that cycle!

BTW when do you get your house?

OLD GEEZER

An old physician, Doctor Gordon Geezer, became very bored in retirement
and decided to re-open a medical clinic.

He put a sign up outside that said: "Dr. Geezer's clinic. Get your treatment for $500 - if not cured, get back $1,000."

Doctor Digger Young, who was positive that this old geezer didn't know
beans about medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000. So he went to Dr. Geezer's clinic.

Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please
help me?"

Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in
Dr. Young's mouth."

Dr. Young: 'Aaagh! -- This is Gasoline!"

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations!

You've got your taste back. That will be $500.”

Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring
to recover his money.

Dr. Young: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."

Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops
in the patient's mouth."

Dr. Young: "Oh, no you don't -- that is Gasoline!"

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will
be $500."

Dr. Young (after having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.

Dr. Young: "My eyesight has become weak --- I can hardly see anything!"

Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so, "Here's your
$1000 back" (giving him a $10 bill).

Dr. Young: "But this is only $10!"

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500."

Moral of story -- Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can outsmart an "old Geezer"

Remember: Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to piss us off.

ENJOY YOUR DAY!!!

P.S. Written in large print for old Geezers.

Moses was supposed to show up to part the clouds, but he didn't come. Rumored he might stop by briefly in a week or so.

Here you go.

All season suet

2 cups each oats and cornmeal
1 cup each PB, flour, shortening
Melt the PB and shortening and mix with the rest and freeze.

I use those blue plastic containers in which mushrooms come at the grocery store. One of those makes a suet cake the right size for the suet feeder.

Thanks so much. I made your recipe this morning, but also added some safflower seed and a little regular seed mix too. I've got containers of suet cakes in the freezer now so I can hang one of them out this afternoon after I get back from errands. Oh yeah, these little birds are in for a treat!!

You can't use the pressure cooker as a slow cooker which means you can't make things like yogurt in it so Bells is right, it's more versatile. It just depends on what you want to use it for. I didn't know anything about the Instant Pot before I bought my pressure cooker, but I've already got a slow cooker. I think using either the pressure or instant pot just takes some getting used to and that just comes with practice. P might have fun with it! There is a browning setting on the PC to start a recipe without having to use a separate pan, not sure about the IP. One thing to know is there is a limit to the amount of liquid you can put in the pressure cooker because you don't want it to bubble up and block the pressure valve. Also, when using butter in the pressure cooker you can add about a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to prevent the foam from bubbling up. So far I'm really liking it. Either today or tomorrow I'm going to make French Onion Soup in it.

I use the little blue containers that mushrooms come in at the grocery store to set my suet. Same size as the suet feeder.

I only put 1/4 of a cake in each feeder most of the year to make sure the birds eat it fast enough so it doesnt turn rancid in the heat. Usually I use one whole cake every 2-3 days.

Janet you are right about getting used to pressure cookers. I remember the first time I used one many many years ago. It was not pretty.
