Thanks so much. I made your recipe this morning, but also added some safflower seed and a little regular seed mix too. I've got containers of suet cakes in the freezer now so I can hang one of them out this afternoon after I get back from errands. Oh yeah, these little birds are in for a treat!!

You can't use the pressure cooker as a slow cooker which means you can't make things like yogurt in it so Bells is right, it's more versatile. It just depends on what you want to use it for. I didn't know anything about the Instant Pot before I bought my pressure cooker, but I've already got a slow cooker. I think using either the pressure or instant pot just takes some getting used to and that just comes with practice. P might have fun with it! There is a browning setting on the PC to start a recipe without having to use a separate pan, not sure about the IP. One thing to know is there is a limit to the amount of liquid you can put in the pressure cooker because you don't want it to bubble up and block the pressure valve. Also, when using butter in the pressure cooker you can add about a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to prevent the foam from bubbling up. So far I'm really liking it. Either today or tomorrow I'm going to make French Onion Soup in it.
Thank you, Janet! Oh, I bet that French Onion soup is going to be downright delicious!
And yes, you're right about P having some fun with it.....although he's not too turned on about the I/P. I never dreamed he would be so good in the kitchen! I guess some dreams do come true! ;)

A number of folks have said they enjoyed my dad's writing. Here is more. Check out:

Memoirs: Memoirs
It Could be Verse: It could be verse (some of them are pretty silly, but a few are interesting)
Six-piece burr puzzles: 6-Piece Burrs (unless you are interested in the puzzle, just read the second article)

My mom also got a few words down on paper: Meg's Page

I use the little blue containers that mushrooms come in at the grocery store to set my suet. Same size as the suet feeder.

I only put 1/4 of a cake in each feeder most of the year to make sure the birds eat it fast enough so it doesnt turn rancid in the heat. Usually I use one whole cake every 2-3 days.

Janet you are right about getting used to pressure cookers. I remember the first time I used one many many years ago. It was not pretty.

Thanks for the info on the suet cakes. I would have put a whole cake in the feeder in the warmer weather. I have a plastic container that looks to be the right size. Lined with plastic wrap I smashed the suet in and folded up the plastic. A little while in the freezer got it solid enough it just popped out and got stuck in a larger plastic bag marked suet. So, I've got 5 cakes in the freezer and what was left over got stuffed into the holes in the log feeder. Unfortunately I wasn't home today to see if the birds or the squirrels found it yet.
The pressure cooker is just a different way of cooking than I'm used to. Hopefully it won't take long to make dishes without recipes to guide me. It would be great to live over a Wegman's supermarket because I always seem to be missing at least 1 ingredient of a new recipe! It would be nice to see what's in the fridge and then make something of it without a recipe.

Thank you, Janet! Oh, I bet that French Onion soup is going to be downright delicious!

He'll be fine with it once he understands the principles behind it's use. it's so fast! It was so nice to have a nice pot of potato soup inside an hour and that included all the prep. When my son made his onion soup in his IP he said it took longer to cut up the onions. I'll probably make more stock now because I can make smaller amounts. My stock bag in the freezer gets freezer burn before I'm ready to make a whole pot. Bet P would love that. He could make his soup in 1/2 hour. He should learn how to make his own noodles!! That would be impressive! You don't even have to cook them first!

TBH, I'm somewhat puzzled with Janet and Nermal's continued 'healing'. Within two weeks of my second cataract surgery, GTG!

Was absolutely amazed and so impressed with my vision improvements; especially night time driving. In fact, just renewed my DL without any eye-glasses restriction, EVER!
I think it just depends. My sil had hers done a few years ago.......one eye did great, the other eye it came out in pieces, and always felt like they left a piece in there, although she's sure they didn't. I'm sure they make certain to get it all out......prolly just the irritation of having to take several pieces out rather than just one. That's great you have no restrictions now! Had my eye exam yesterday.

Now that my prescription is more powerful magnification I have a side effect ... distortion ... if I look at a square or rectangle ... it's more like looking at a trapezoid.
I don't have that with squares, but for as long as I've worn glasses, I have that with round things, like plates.......they look oval

We have a wonderful store around the corner from us called Birds and Beyond
too cute. Shame they couldn't call it birdbath and beyond. Maybe too close to the other one, or perhaps they don't sell bird baths. I've always wanted to put out a bird bath. I'm not real big on birds, but have always loved watching them in bird baths.

When I had my next day eye check-up there was a basket of dry eye drop samples with a Help Yourself sign on it. Yay! Now I've got one downstairs and in my purse for when I'm out. It's funny, an eye doc once told me 70% of his patients have dry eye. What's up with that? Do the lubricating glands just dry up when you hit a certain age?
kewl on the samples. They've told me I don't have "dry eye disease" but I do have very dry eyes. But I always have had. Have always used a lot of eye drops. years ago like 20 or so, I started looking at ingredients on the rewetting drops and saline solution. Not much if any difference, so I typically fill my eye drop bottle with saline solution. Much cheaper. But I also have to use allergy drops at least twice a day.

Wonder if our kids will look back at this surgery and think it's barbaric.
I know everyone says it's no big deal, but it certainly seems barbaric. Only cuz you have to look at the stuff comin at yur eye. Seems freaky. I was dx'd several years ago with cataracts, but they are slow growing, so still no need for surgery Yea!

I ordered an Instant Pot. Can't wait to try it. :) For sure my monthly food budget will benefit because instead of buying all my legumes canned I can go back to storing them dry…much cheaper. Since my pressure cooker died I always forget to set them out to soak the night before :(.
I have never soaked my beans. I always start em the night before and cook em about 15 hrs on high in my crock pot. Makes the beans totally break down, and release the stuff that makes em a lil thicker, so it's not just broth. The beans are still beans, not mush, but the juice is a lil thicker.

Kewl! Everyone I've heard who has one absolutely loves it. Definitely on my list of wants. Recently I saw one of these on tv and I'm very intrigued. Wanna look up some reviews. Love that it has the drum, and skewers etc. wonder if I could roast coffee in it. watchya think @bigbells
Oven Features | Power AirFryer™

the other thing he found was he could hardly find a pulse in both feet more in the right tho.
oh dang darlin.......that's not good. Did he use the doppler to check it? That really needs to be seen to so they can find out what's causing her not have enough circulation! You know all too well how that can end up if not fixed

In the year 2025:

Doctor: Mary, I think it is time to discuss having a Cochlear Implant.

Mary: But I want cataract surgery! Won't that help?

Doctor (laughing): You don't need cataract surgery. Your eyes are doing fine. You are lipreading.

Mary: You caught me. But I would still rather have cataract surgery.

Doctor (mumbling, like most people do nowadays, finally saying distinctly): CI surgery is simpler than cataract surgery was seven years ago. It is time. Should we make some more appointments to get ready?

Mary: OK. But I would still rather have cataract surgery.

phooey.......was afeared of that
Even if you could get it hot enough to roast the beans, there's smoke to deal with... the darker the roast the more smoke. And that basket that I think you're calling a drum... I don't think it rotates... I could be wrong.

Mary: OK. But I would still rather have cataract surgery.
Doctor: how about a root canal? I always wanted to try one of those.

@Debadoo, you can roast coffee beans in a fry pan... it's just really difficult (read: impossible) to achieve consistency. Other inconveniences of pan roasting:
You still need some plan to deal with the smoke unless you can do it outside.
You need to keep the beans moving or else they'll burn on the outside without getting roasted on the inside.

Still, the results in the cup would usually beat canned or bagged coffee.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me then a frontal lobotomy.

Update. Ginny's docs are not concerned with the weak pulse and don't feel she needs a PAD but she is having the Neurophathy test on Monday.

I finally got squared away with the gastroenterologist. Apparently I have esophageal ulcers probably caused by the stress I put myself thru. Dumb I know also from my stomach surgery. He put me on Omeprazole 40mg twice a day 30 min before meals and another called Sucralfate 1g at bedtime which can be mixed up with water and taken that way. He is hoping to heal the ulcers this way. So maybe I'll be able to eat better. I hope.

it does rotate, and jup I figgered if it would work, I would move it outside. Was hopin to be able to use it since my son is kinda interested in getting one at some point, but had a feelin it wouldn't get hot enough. Thanks for confirming.

So, a voyeur? :w00t:

well I reckin they must be gettin enough pulse for adequate circulation. glad they found the ulcers. Hope the meds heal em up and it helps improve your appetite and absorption perhaps! I take 1 40mg omeprazole. Good to know you can do 2 of them, cuz mostly it takes care of stuff, but lately not all the time. May have to up it at some point.
You could still do some Korean food, but yeah not the spicy stuff. Not all of it heat spicy.

@Debadoo The thing I feared most was seeing he instruments doing their work, but honestly I didn't see anything but a bright white light and I didn't feel anything at all. They totally numb up the eye with lots of eye drops. Of all the people I've ever heard who had it done said it was a piece of cake and pretty much it was for me too.

I always asked them to go light on the red pepper and it still was almost too hot to eat but it was still yummy.
I made about 12 oz of hot stuff today: a bunch of horseradish powder and a bunch of mustard powder mixed with vinegar. It's pretty hot.

Only if the anesthetic isn't working!

One of the least expensive ways to try coffee roasting is with a popcorn popper. A great many people start that way and some never stop. I've never done it, but my FreshRoast 500 works on the same principles.

You know I wondered about that and I checked it out and some people with a certain type of thing take 120mg 3 times a day. So I guess you can take quite a bit.
