I have been rather absent from this forum for quite a while due to a few problems in my neck of the woods. The good news is that all these have now been resolved. I turned 67 yesterday, and celebrated my birthday in our, at last, totally owned home. No landlords, no mortgage holders and now no one can tell neither my self or my wife how to live and where to live. I had the greatest of pleasure of telling our latest former landlord where he could shove his house and although we just about used up all our savings to buy our house outright we hope to live out our lives in peace.
Welcome back to our little corner of the world.
Happy belated birthday to you!

Yes thanks all for the welcome and birthday wishes. Just finished cleaning out roof gutters, trimmed neglected hedges, took 3 trailer loads of green waste to local tip. Lawns mowed. Now building shelving for man cave / workshop.

Well I never thought I would know it in this lifetime either. We were considering going Grey Nomad but when we came across this place the price was right.
I'll never know in this lifetime.

For those that want to see what our new house looks like here it is.
The little Mazda II is the wife's car and the VW beastie is mine. Looked at Fords and GMH stuff but since Ford and GMH shut down their plants in Australia and put heaps of people out of work, including my son, I said to heck with them and went for the fully imported Amarok VW.

Well we got the worst news possible. She has Stage 4 also 2 spots on her liver a spot by each kidney plus the lung and lymph node. He said without treatment it would take her in months. She has to get an iron infusion on Wed a port put in sometime this week starts real aggressive chemo Tues next week 3 days in a row for 3 hours each day then 3 weeks till the next one. My daughter is coming this weekend maybe both of them and get this house really cleaned, then the next weekend both and continue. I don't know what i'm going to do. We are both so sad she is crying everytime she talks to any of her family or anyone for that matter. This is really bad. Now I wish I'd have listened to my dad and saved for the rainy day. It is a monsoon here. If one of you want to let the people know on Willies thread it is fine. I don't feel like doing it.

Wow, Pat, I am speechless. I wish I was in a place/position that I could help you and Ginny. I know what you are going to be going through. When Nancy's cancer was discovered we spent the first 6 months trying everything under the sun to find a cure. The last 6 months were spent preparing for the inevitable. I discovered that even though we said we were prepared but we really weren't. I'm sitting crying so I will close this for now. If you need anything just call me.

Lovely! And it's only going to get better and better!

Well we didn’t think we would have to deal with power outages till winter. Wrong it was a little windy today and our power has been out for about an hour so far luckily we had an emergency tank set up so she was only off for a couple minutes. Her O2 drops like a rock without it. Of course machine runs on electricity. Guess it was a good thing they gave us plenty. Without her oxygen would have been down to about 70 by now.

Wow, that was close. Consider this a trial run so you know what to do if the elec goes out again.

A few days ago we drove to DeLand to visit one of my favorite orchid greenhouses. 17,000 sq. ft mostly of orchids although there are some other types of plants for sale.

This staghorn is hanging close to the entrance. To give you a perspective it is mounted on a full size pallet. It's magnificent.

And I picked the last of my spring tomatoes…well there are about a dozen more on the plants but our spring tomato season is almost over :(. Tomatoes won't set fruit when the nights are above 70 degrees and of course our nights are above that.

July 1st I'll be planting fresh seeds and by the time the plants flower our nights should be below 70 degrees. We should get tomatoes into December :).

Whoa, I had no idea a stag horn could grow that big!! Amazing!

I never knew that about tomatoes and temperatures. Thanks for the info.

Good late morning Loungers
We had a little good excitement over the weekend!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! What an adorable picture! When is she due?

What a sense of liberation you must be feeling! I I know you will enjoy your new 'all yours'
home.

Dear Pat...my heart is also breaking for you and Ginny...but, please, if you're possibly feeling that you and your wife are being punished for something in your lives, that simply is not true.

Life can be a real biatch in spite of one's best efforts and intentions. PLEASE know that SO many people are pulling for the both of you!!!

Yes and thank you.
Owning our own home was a great releif. However this greatly depleted our life savings. We had to move to a Rural location but all amenities are there so no worries in that aspect. We used to live in a suburb of Hobart Tasmania Australia. The rental market went through the roof and many low income earners were forced to live in tents and more fortunate ones in Caravans (Trailers as you may call them). Our last landlord was a lying money hungry scum. I will not bore you with details suffice it to say our lawyers are now suing him for breach of rental agreement and we have a rock tight case.
