Well we just got back from the Pulmonologist. What a great doctor and person. He told us she has Small Cell Cancer but he is sure that she can get this in remission. He told her you go and kick the (EDITED) out of this. He said to me don't worry she is going to be one of the ones she's one tough chick. Maybe I'll be able to sleep pat 0230 tonight which is when I've been getting up. I wish more doctors were like this like the Oncologist. Then he gave her a big hug and said it was a pleasure and an honor being her doctor and made another appt for 8 months and said when I see you next you will have taken care of this.
That is awesome! That's the fighting mindset she needs to have! No giving up allowed from either of you!

A bag of crinkle cut fries in the freezer, and I was jonesing to have some. I set the oven to 450, but a minute later I turned it off in favor of trying a different cooking approach.

I folded a sheet of no-stick aluminum foil in half, loaded it up with frozen fries, folded the unoccupied half over on top, and put them on the George Foreman grill for 8 minutes. The idea was a winner. They were better than when prepared in the oven. Tasted so good I did a second batch.

I have been rather absent from this forum for quite a while due to a few problems in my neck of the woods. The good news is that all these have now been resolved. I turned 67 yesterday, and celebrated my birthday in our, at last, totally owned home. No landlords, no mortgage holders and now no one can tell neither my self or my wife how to live and where to live. I had the greatest of pleasure of telling our latest former landlord where he could shove his house and although we just about used up all our savings to buy our house outright we hope to live out our lives in peace.

Great feeling to own your house outright, isn't it?

Yes and thank you.
Owning our own home was a great releif. However this greatly depleted our life savings. We had to move to a Rural location but all amenities are there so no worries in that aspect. We used to live in a suburb of Hobart Tasmania Australia. The rental market went through the roof and many low income earners were forced to live in tents and more fortunate ones in Caravans (Trailers as you may call them). Our last landlord was a lying money hungry scum. I will not bore you with details suffice it to say our lawyers are now suing him for breach of rental agreement and we have a rock tight case.

I think I told you that I was shocked at the price that Allstate quoted me for collision and comprehensive coverage for my new vehicle. The price was so high that I decided to pay off the 0 percent financing loan, which allowed me to have liability and uninsured motorist coverage without carrying collision and comprehensive.

Well, I was posting in a Subaru Forester forum, complaining about the high cost, and people suggested I was either lying about my driving record or I needed to get price quotes from other insurers.

The gecko gave me a much better price, but Flo beat the gecko. I now have Progressive insurance, with $1000 deductible on the comprehensive and collision, that's over 60% cheaper than what Allstate quoted me for the same coverage. The moral of the story: don't be like me and assume that the company that's had the best rates for you for decades has the best rates for you today. I had previously checked the rates from Geico and Progressive, and they were either the same or higher than Allstate. But, the last time I checked was probably over 10 years ago. Things change.

Now, I wonder if Subaru will give me a do-over on that free financing, which was like free money. (Actually, I'm kidding. I'm sure enough that the request would be considered laughable that I won't even look into it). Lesson learned.

I have our agent check other company rates every year at renewal time. Unfortunately in Florida car insurance rates are higher than up north. Apparently it's because there are so many elderly drivers who are more likely to have accidents than younger drivers :(

Are you saying North Carolina is up north? :)

The results change year by year, but for 2018, NC has the lowest auto insurance rates in the country. Somebody must have forgotten to tell Allstate about that. :)
Here are the most & least expensive states for car insurance in 2018

No, by "up north" I meant northern states, such as northern KY from where we moved to Florida.
It is all relative. I thought snow and ice would be a factor, but it seems that like the article says, poverty rates and old cars are primary. Wisconsin is good, although some county roads are in deplorable condition.
