Thank you!! Getting ready to set up 2 of them and didn't want to fubar...;)
You don't have to give them different "Wake up" words (Alexa is a WakeUp word, not a name); in fact, you probably shouldn't.

However you might want to give them different names (like FamilyRoom or Kitchen) to make use of the intercom abilities: You might say: "Alexa, drop in on Kitchen" to use the FamilyRoom EchoDot to open an intercom connection to the Kitchen EchoDot. (I don't use this, soi I'm not sure of the exact wording.) I have named (remember, this is different from the WakeUp word) them all by the room they are in, but that is just because I have a bit of OCD. You can let the setup name them as you add them to your network using the iPhone (or Android) App. I think it names them something like Echo(1) and Echo(2).

Okay...question for those of you with multiple Echo/Dot 'Alexa' devices....if you have them in a separate room, do you need to give them an individual name? or...can they all just be called 'Alexa'?

Don't want to sound like Chicken Little but reliable sources say that those things listen and RECORD everything they cam hear. Used as evidence in a couple of cases.

I stand corrected - I really didn't know (thus the ???). Thank you for the correct info!
I am just a learner. It is a new and different world. Last night I slept from 8:00 to 4:00, then decided to take a nap at seven, and just woke up, at 10:00. That is allowable in this world.

I live alone....never have guests....only speak occasionally to my dog...have never been one who spends time yakking on the phone...and haven't started talking to myself....yet...;) This is primarily an inexpensive alternative to a life alert should I find myself in need of assistance.

I did a lot of research and you can go in and remove/delete recorded speech. I spent most of my life working in casinos with the 'eye in the sky'...cameras and recording always on. I quickly learned that you only need to be paranoid if you're doing something wrong... Recordings can be used to exonerate as well as accuse... We're all being naive if we believe that every cell phone call....text...email...etc., can't be found, tracked and used by an investigative source....

A brief good news / bad news post ... hold on to your hats

Good News:

Janet and I are the proud grandparents of our 4th newborn grandboy. It was along haul. Kate and Brian left for the hospital at 1am this morning. The little tyke just took his good ol' time and came into the world around 3:45pm today. Everyone is doing fine. We don't have any details yet (weight, height, etc.) just some pictures of a cute little dude who just joined the family. We'll be heading to the hospital after Hux wakes from his nap to meet the new family addition.

The Bad:

While Janet and I were anxiously awaiting the birth of the new kid on the block ... I got a call from Patrick (2legs). At 3am this morning his time, he took a major fall in his bathroom. He broke his left hip and left shoulder. He was calling from the hospital and because he doesn't have his glasses he couldn't get onto ECF and give us the news. He asked me to pass it along. Ginny is on the way with his glasses and some other personal items. He's scheduled for surgery later today/tonight. That's all I know. I asked him to call me again tomorrow with how the op went and how he's doing. Obviously he is really concerned how things will work out at home with the long re-coup ahead of him.

As for Patrick, honestly, it was just a matter of time with his deep fixated concern for Ginny. He's been soooo dark down recently.

Maybe now they both will get the help/assistance they've needed for a while!

Prayers of celebration for you and Janet, and lifting ones for Patrick and Ginny!!

And Mike, thanx fer da heads up!!!

Re da Echo Dots, ya have to dig deep to find a near verifiable instance of Echo 'tapping'. Not sayin' dere ain't none. Just didn't find one on a cursory probe.

If I was up to 'no good': no cell contracts, only 'burner' phones bought wid cash while disguised, no 'puter/'tronics, no credit cards, etc...

If my world collapses, won't be 'cause of any Echo Dot!

Yabut I don't feel especially secure in the knowledge that my personal privacy depends entirely upon being totally uninteresting.

That might be a very good thing! I can't imagine anyone being the slightest bit interested in what's going on in our house ever. Well, maybe when the laughter gets going...

Thank you for the congrats. Our new grandson is 7 lbs 12 oz and 20 inches long. He's got dark hair which is interesting since Kate and Brian are both dirty blond. He was born with the cord wrapped twice around his neck so he was quite purple which kind of freaked Kate out, but the doc seemed calm and unconcerned and just took care of it. His apgar score was 7 & 9 which is good. He and his mother are doing just fine and we couldn't be happier.

Even Hux seemed ok with it and said it would be ok to bring him home. That was a relief because all this time whenever anyone asked if he wanted a baby brother or sister he always said NO! Uh Oh. So, they bought him is own baby doll and he brought it home and laid it down beside his pillow and went right to sleep! Whew! Looks like it's going to be ok after all.

Now, if they can only settle on a name for the little guy.
