I got the (not yet) wife's birthday off by one day.
24 years of marriage and I can count on one hand the number of times Nancy remembered my birthday. It was humorous, to say the least. She didn't care for Chinese buffets so I got to eat there once a year on my birthday. We were sitting in my favorite buffet one evening and she asks me why I decided to eat there when we could have gone to a steak place she liked. She stopped then looked at me then gave out one of her signature curse words, and said, I forgot it again, didn't I. All I could do was laugh.

Our last ultrasound I asked "Will he have hair?" which I kind of thought to be funny because there hasn't been a bald baby on my side of the family... in generations. And the nurse took the machine and showed us this little 'flame' looking thing, and replied, yeah, but not much. Then this thing was born:

Man I sure wish I was getting better at a faster rate. I'm tired of this, it has definitely lost its amusement value. Better being at home tho. No complaints about the food here. At least if I want to live to tell about it. For what you hear about nursing homes this one was pretty good. Got along great with the nurses aides and they were right on the ball on things. The food was terrible but everything else was fine. I probably should've stayed another week or two but home is a much better place. I couldn't have lived if I lost any more weight. I was down to 106 thats pretty light for 5'9".

When I was younger and athletic, mostly running - bicycling, I was 135 @ 6'4" and felt fine. Stayed there until I started lifting and put muscle on. Then I got married, lol.

Oh, thanks for the memory. I had forgotten about that almost a quarter century ago.
Ha, I wish. I didn't have my boy until I was 43. Started teaching him to drive just today, good thing that I'm already grey haired and have bp meds, lol.

My neighbor is a single mom. Her sons have moved back home so she bought a car from a coworker. The only problem was that it has a manual transmission. The seller actually drove the car to her house. She called me and ask if I could teach her son how to drive a manual. The first thing I had to do was drive them to the insurance agent and then the next day I took her son to a local lake that has a great big parking lot and taught him the basics of a manual. It brought back some memories.

Remember when standard transmission was standard, and engines had naturally aspirated engines with carburetors? Pump it twice, mash the pedal to the floor to set the high idle cam, turn the key and hope for the best. And each car had its own little quirks? Now, you sit down and turn the key - if it even has a key.

Yeah. When I got my Scion back in '09 the salesman looked at me funny when I spec'ed out a 5 speed manual.

I was still working at that time, still likely to be driving black ice roads in the middle of the night to restore power, and just don't like the idea of an automatic shifting unexpectedly, either up or down, since that was likely to be in the middle of a mountain curve... much rather have precise control, thank you!

I learned to drive with manual....never owned a car with automatic....automatic was what my husband drove...;) True story...last car I bought, my husband had done all the dealing with the salesman at the dealership...salesman asked him if the wife was going to be ok with a stick shift manual....Husband replied..."Hell, this is her car and she refuses to have anything else"...

Daughter learned to drive with my car and Granddaughter also had to learn on a manual transmission...
Daughter's first car wasn't street legal... She was a big fan of Shirley Muldowney and used to drag at the Atco track on weekends, where she beat the guys on a pretty regular basis. Was approached to become a driver of a Funny car, but those things run with Nitrous and she turned it down because she preferred to keep her body intact... She still drives like a 'bat out of Hades"...

I learned to drive on manual, and loved the control I felt when driving.......when the automatics started turning out, I was excited, but not for long.
I learned to drive on an automatic. But, once my brother taught me how to drive standard (so we could sneak out the VW Bug), I was in love with standard.

Not only more control in driving, but also more control in starting the car on hills.

I have 4 grandsons that drive, and not one of them can drive a manual. Neither can at least 1 of their fathers.

I learned to drive on a '49 Ford pickup that had a 4 speed with compound low. Top speed in first gear was about 2 mph. Starter was a big button on the floor next to the gas pedal. I was only 13 or 14, the biggest challenge was having long enough legs to work the pedals and buttons...and getting it started.
