Well I must have had a cranky 'clerk' when getting my real-id license. On the states website it specifically listed a current passport as proof of identity. It's a good thing I had an original birth certificate because 'she' wouldn't accept my passport ... insisted on seeing an original birth cert. I cut her some slack and went with the flow without raising a fuss over it.

OTOH ... my wife got into the West Wing in DC for a tour with her Costco membership card. She inadvertently left her wallet back at the motel with all her id. While searching through her purse she found the Costco card w/ her picture on it and the Secret Service agent checking id accepted it. Go figure!

AND - That is why it is so nice to have "Private" DMV's here in Florida, although you may have a little wait at times and it may cost a dollar or two more for their services . . . Renew almost everything . . . But So Well Worth It . . . Just Sayin' . . .

BTW: You can also go to the FL DMV website to book an appointment (AND - Have to for a renewal that requires a new license picture) if you want to drive out to one of their locations out side of the local area . . . :(

OK - Let's see half hour or more drive there and then another half hour or more back - Or a 3 minutes trip in total around the corner . . . I'll pay the extra $ and I'm a skinflint . . .

OH & BTW: If your Handicap, Ya' don't have to take a number and wait that long either, just sit or stand by the special area . . . No matter how many people are already there waiting - Your the next person to be seen by agent . . .

Wish my local DMV did that! At least I won't have to deal with that again 'til 2006...

Arrrgh! all of this nonsense about 'Real ID' just makes me angry... Before I moved to NJ I had to submit a 25 page form to the DGE for licensing to work in a casino there. Had to list every address and job I'd had since leaving HS, all of my relatives and their addresses, even my ex-husband. Had to submit personal references, as well as references from employers. Also had to pay for and submit 3 sets of fingerprints for the AC Police dept., the State Police dept. and the FBI. I had an uncle calling my mother to ask what I was getting into.He was retired military who had been attached to NATO in Belgium for several years, carrying papers that were only to be opened if there was a war, and had never been subjected to the kind of questioning I was undergoing. They sent investigators to Nevada to interview us as well, and held up my license for four months because...I had been late on my house payment twice in 12 years!

Twenty some odd years later NJ went to Real ID drivers license and I hit the ceiling over having to prove who I was after all I had gone through previous to coming there.. I had to write to Nevada and pay for copies of two marriage licenses and a divorce decree that I didn't even know the date, just the approximate month. I was not a happy camper at the DMV.

Moved to PA, got a PA license, and now...here we go again. Happily I hung onto the information I had to provide before, but still annoyed over it all.

FL DMV doesn't have that service - it was the Private DMV . . . Check if there is one in your area . . ;)

YEP - 1) NJ - 2) PA - 3) NY and finally 4) Florida . . . All the same, except for the prices . . . However, after 9 years - I have to go through it all to renew next year . . .

Yup ... I love growing and working with gourds, because they opened up a new world of creation for me.
You can't get bored with gourds because you can woodburn, paint, carve, basketweave, leather stain, sculpt and more with them. Plus you have all different sizes and shapes to work with.
I've pretty much given it up now, since I can't do shows anymore, and I have no way of getting rid of all of them.
I have a few pieces that I want to finish ,, a wall mask, and one with turquoise inlays.
Using the dremel is really bringing out the arthritis in my fingers, so I'm done with recessed carving now.
Need to save the fingers for coil building. :p

Very interesting. You worked that craft from seed to completion! And no 2 are alike. I'm sorry you can't continue doing it.

Wow, that sounds nuts. At least they didn't ask you for any blood. For the Real ID there was a whole list of possible documents to choose from to prove who you are, but you only need to pick 3. They looked at my social security card and either my passport and/or birth cert. (I forget) and that was it although I had other documents as well. There was a very brief form to fill out while waiting for my number to come up. I was due to renew my license anyway so I got that and the Real ID at the same time. They asked if I wanted to use my existing photo so I didn't even need my picture taken. They just printed out my new license with the star on it, I paid the fee and I was finished. The letter they send you to get Real ID sounds a lot more complicated. Didn't even need the police or the FBI.

The Tardis! Dr Who lives on forever

New season, that our friends on the eastern side of the pond probably saw last spring, is supposed to be out "in the fall", but haven't seen any news on it yet...

Is it just a few states that have to get the Real ID or is it everybody? I think I read somewhere that our PA and a couple other states drivers license wasn't good enough to prove ID so we had to do the Real ID, but now I'm not sure.

SOME States made the transition "early." Some didn't. Here in WA they came out with a so-called "enhanced" license as an option some years back, when the whole thing started. So here, if you have the not enhanced, you need to upgrade. If you were in a State that already switched to the new scheme, nothing to do. If in a State where they hadn't, or only had it as an option, yeah, you need to upgrade.

There is that, about the accent. Wife watches more of the BBC shows than I do, although I do watch some. After a while one does figure out how they mangle their language ;)

Yeah, I thought Jodie Whittaker as the new Doc did a fine job, just wish they'd tell us when she's coming back!
