But you lose weight when you stop using them. When you get to the weight you want to be you can cut back on them & just drink enough to maintain that weight. Right now you drink more because you are trying to gain. You drank them before & your weight was good. Then you stopped completely & started losing.

Well the 3lbs I put on I lost again. Seems to be the story lately been going between 137 and 140 for quite a while. I'm eating more with this protein. It doesn't make you feel full which is great and I'm feeling better most of the time but for me its more important to get off the F as long as I can stay where I am as far as weight.

Ooh, ooh, wanna see!
Well, now I feel like a heal. I have the last 4 pens packaged up ready to put in the mail to my sister in Central Point, Oregon. I decided to send it to her husband. I figured with the fat barrel it might help him with his writing. He suffered a stroke about 2 years ago and is making small bits of recovery. The others will be for his wife Ava, my other sister, Connie and her husband Frank. I made one for Frank 5 or 6 years ago and he just loves using it for sketching. He ask for another pen not long ago and I just got around making him another. I will have to check and see if I have another blank of Purple Heart, what I thought was Purple Heart isn't. Darn it, I wish I knew my woods better. I am sure Ava will take a pic with Jim so when she does I'll repost it here.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Pneumonia is scary. But, at least once it's over, it's over. Unlike a heart condition.

Hopefully you got a good night's sleep and awoke to better news! Sending best wishes!
well... except for the afib that the cardiologist says has gotten worse and now needs medication.

Oh geez Ken! Here's hoping it all works out for the best for him.
Thanks! appreciate the thoughts.

Prayers out to your Dad, and Mom also!
Mom says thanks from both!

Thank you for going to so much trouble for us. But, now I feel guilty for asking for a pic. It's a vicious circle, I tell ya!

Purple Heart 1.JPG

Here is the Purple Heart pen that I am sending to my Brother in law. The other 3 cases contain pens for my sisters and other BIL. Out of 4 cases, wouldn't ya know it, the Purple Heart was in the last case. I hope that the postal department doesn't x-ray the package and freak-out. I figure wrapping the pens in a paper towel and then putting them in the PVC should protect them during the mailing to Oregon.

My first pic with the quad, actually a screenshot from a video...

our back deck, my wife and I loungin' in the shade yesterday after work.

1stPhantomPic.jpg

I learned one thing yesterday - I still have a lot to learn. :)

It's locked in 'beginner' mode right now, so ~98' high and 98' away is the limit... went straight up from where I took off and had a look over the trees behind our house. Amazing. Slowly panned around 360. Amazing. came back straight down, buzzed around a little, and promptly ran into a shrub! DOH!

Everything's OK though... it's setup on the kitchen bar right now, I'm playing with the Go app.

And wouldn't ya know it?... the weather here is going to be terrible today and windy Thurs. and Fri... Saturday and Sunday look good though. That gives me three days to study up.

That pen is the bomb, Diver! I'd avoid using that description when mailing the package, though. :thumb: On another subject, you're an RC quad pilot too, aren't you? You have a Blade-branded bird if I recall correctly, and you have flown as a member of a club or association, is that right? I haven't heard you talk about it recently.

I learned one thing yesterday - I still have a lot to learn. :)
One of the things you'll get used to as you gain experience is how to steer the quad depending on which way it's pointed. Despite the many, many hours I've spent flying, it still is not totally instinctive to me... I have say to myself "OK, with the aircraft pointed in that direction relative to me, the left side of it is.. there.. so I need to move this stick in this direction to make it go.. there."

Have you registered with the FAA? $5 for 3 years, takes less than 10 minutes to register online.

Some unsolicited tips:
Examine the props carefully after any mishap, and err on the side of caution if in doubt about whether or not to replace a prop. Also re-tighten the props periodically by hand, and especially after an accident.
buy only props made by DJI. They're inexpensive enough, and they are significantly better in quality than any of the props that are not OE.
When the aircraft is moving faster than your brain's ability to direct your thumbs correctly on the remote control, let go of the control sticks and hope that the bird holds still long enough for you to figure out what to do next.

It's so nice to have a new quad pilot on the porch!

The two coffees I have in "ready to grind and brew" status at the moment are both from Rwanda. There would be no way for anyone to know, based on taste, that the two coffees are from the same country. That's why I think that you can't really describe a coffee by simply naming the country where it is grown. They do have something in common, though... both of them are mmm.. good!

You must really love us. Beautiful! It looks like it would feel really good to write with.

That's a very interesting background. Is it a table top? A quilt?

It's so nice to have a new ~wannabe~ quad pilot on the porch!

:w00t: = me for the first 30 minutes

:eek::oops::grr::rolleyes: = me when it hit that bush!!!

I put on a set of new props and cleaned/inspected the others, no damage.
Have you ever used prop guards?... you think they would help? I know they would affect aerodynamics/handling some and add weight, and so shorten batt. life.

Steering orientation discombooberation was why I hit that bush yesterday. Thinking back on it: The bird was at ~6' high, right at my eye level - and my depth perception 'ain't too good' to begin with. For just a few seconds there, I couldn't tell it was going away instead of coming to me. Luckily it wasn't moving very fast. (Oh yeah... and I shouldn't have been buzzing around the yard while sitting on the deck talking to my wife and sipping a cold brew.)

Neutralizing the controls might have stopped it in time yesterday, I need to work on that mindset. That also works in a stalled Cessna 182 - if'n ya have enough altitude!

I agree about the DJI props, and think that about batteries too. I decided early on to use only OEM. No sense taking a chance, because - if/when either fails, it falls out of the sky. No thanks, I'll pay the extra.

No I haven't registered yet.

Thanks for the 'unsolicited tips' - keep 'em comin' :)

@bigbells

Do you use the DJI Go app to view the camera on a phone or tablet?

One thing about it I haven't figured out - In the video settings, under Video Cache, you can turn ON or OFF 'Cache Locally When Recording'. I wonder if that affects how smooth your vids are, mine from yesterday are 'jumpy', and have 'cut-outs'. It is ON by default.

Maybe try using the cardboard roll from the paper towels... That would hold up to anything except being crushed and less threatening looking in an x-ray???

I've never used them but that's only because I didn't have any. They don't have any huge negative effects on flight characteristics or battery life, and they would have saved a few props, particularly from the fairly common event where the bird tips over after you've already landed but the motors haven't yet stopped. That can happen from a hard landing, or a stiff breeze, or unlevel landing spot. On some models (I don't know whether it's true with the Phantom 3), you have to use a different, longer set of screws to attach them, and if you forget and use the same screws after taking the prop guards off, you end up damaging the aircraft. Using prop guards does make it easier for the front arms/props/prop guards to appear in video.

Also, when trying to do a small control input, it's easy to misperceive which way the bird just moved. Logically, you should guess right half of the time, but in reality the guess-wrong rate is, of course, close to 100%.. the only way I know to improve the percentage is to have had more multiple cold brews prior to the event.

I almost always use a Google Nexus 7 II tablet, but I also have the app installed on my cell phone. The video won't cache on either device most of the time, due to insufficient available storage space. I get a message that says "Cache has stopped due to insufficient storage space" or something like that. I don't know whether caching has any effect on video quality on the micro-SD that's aboard the aircraft camera. Are you talking about that video, or are you instead talking about the video that's recorded on your viewing device?

For no logical reason, uninstalling then reinstalling DJI Go can cure various things.

I just came back inside from flying today. Beautiful conditions right now. This is from my flight yesterday afternoon:

It's good that no surgery or pacemaker is needed yet! Pills are easy! Glad he's doing so well!
