Another good one Dave, but I really like the P3P flight on 11/24 to the quarry.
I''l try to make this short as possible...
I met a farmer at a Sat. night get-together several months ago. After we both found out each other's love of flying, we spent most of the night talking and sippin' - and I even helped him smoke one of his expensive cigars. He told me he owned a
1946 Piper PA-12 and he'd take me up sometime... also said his computer needed work, so I gladly gave him a business card.
He called me last Friday morning and I went to his place that afternoon. After the computer work, we walked out back to a nondescript metal building, and inside was the most gorgeous old airplane I'd seen outside of an airshow... 70 years old but in immaculate condition -inside and out! He said it had won 'Best of Show' awards several times over the years. He also has a 2500 ft. grass strip through the middle of a huge field out back... push the plane out of the hanger, pivot it 90 degrees to the right, pre-flight check, fire it up, mag check, firewall the throttle, take off! He wanted to take me up, and I wanted to go, but didn't have time! It was a perfect day too - cool, calm, high cumulus clouds punctuating intense blue skies... sigh... We agreed to get back together soon - and I'll tell ya,
today wouldn't be soon enough for me!
Between the time I met the farmer and the day I went to his place, I worked on a computer for a man at our local airport who is an Aircraft A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) mechanic. Turns out he's the mechanic for my new farmer friend - he did part of the restoration of the PA-12, and has done the Annual inspections and other work for years. He told me Mr. Farmer used to fly over his fields and take pictures with a 35mm camera, blow the pictures up and study the fields for problems---
BINGO! A perfect candidate to pitch for drone inspections of his fields!
Mr. Farmer and I talked about that and he seemed very interested. I told him I'd need to line up several farmers and enough work to make the investment worthwhile. That really piqued his interest. I can hardly wait to see where this goes...
