Man the Packers look like the Packers I used to love when I was a lot younger. Never used to miss a game they were in till Seattle finally go a team but Russell Wilson has gone downhill since he got married. Plus they lost 3 of their best players. They have the lowest paid offensive line and it shows badly.

Birds, eh? Same situation at our nature center, which is not part of the parks and recreation department. They're not allowed to feed the deer, but they put the open bird feeders at a convenient height for deer. If you really want to see deer, just go down and look at the bird feeders.

We were shocked the first time we saw a group of 6 deer, including one large buck, at our front bird feeder that's on a pole. He reared up and started banging on the bird feeder while the females enjoyed the seed raining down on them. Now how did they know that's where the seed came from?

Too funny. My cat doesn't care about catnip at all. I guess different strokes for different cats.:lol::lol:

It's strange, but both our female cats don't like catnip. Someone said it's usually just the males who like it. No idea if that's true, but is your cat a male or female?

Very busy day today. Turned of the main breaker outside and proceeded to change out the breaker panel. The old one was Federal Pacific and doesn't meet code any longer. Replaced it with a new GE panel. Getting the old one out isn't too hard. Getting the new one in sux. It's 2 inches taller than the old one so nothing just slipped into place. Turned off the power at around 10:30am and turned it back on around 3pm. Doing it myself saved us around $1500.

You are a man of many talents Matt! Mrs. Matt must be thrilled you're so smart you can save all that money!! (Electricity has always scared the bejeezus out of me.)

So true! We call it "amateur night" too. We experienced drinkers just stay home.

Our hot water heater change out has been a minor nightmare. Had to rip out a wall to get it out. Then to find the right size water heater! Found it at Home Depo. Now working on re-tiling the floor and painting the replaced wall and whole entry way/laundry room. I don't even want to think of what it would have cost for a contractor/plumber/electrician to have done the job! Have to wait to finish the back entry that got the wettest until the subfloor dries completely. But the tiled kitchen area looks great!

Wow, the floor looks great and you can look forward to a new year with a new water heater you won't have to worry about for many years.

Not a good night to end up in a ditch on a back road, which most are around here. Should be real nice around 2am when the bars close or in this area bar closes. Got a big pot of Split Pea with Ham soup in the slow cooker since 11am should be good.

Yummm! I've got the remains of a ham in the fridge that I'm going to make split pea soup with on Monday. The last 2 hams I made lentil soup so now it's the peas turn. Love me a pot of soup when it's cold outside!

Yep the slow cooker really gets a workout in the winter. We almost bought a new one, in fact we did but got it home and it just seemed too shallow and big. We've got one from around 1995 with a really heavy stoneware pot, its deep 5qt knob is missing but it works great. Makes the best beef stew and soups.

Safe and Happy New Year to all!

and, of course...

what a miserable freakin' year

That was really funny. Some of 2016 was freakin' miserable, but there were some good things this year too!

Oh Boy we have a Winter Storm warning for tonight into tomorrow with up to 7" of snow and winds to 35 followed by below 0 temperatures.

The biggest one of these gals is a real beech. Anyone comes around where she's eating she kicks them with her front hoof except for one which must be her baby from last year. This one is checking me out

She's gorgeous and looks like she's an alpha female! They are curious creatures!

One year we had snow after snow and not much chance for kicking up some food so the deer were eating our trees and bushes. Mike put some cracked corn out on a sledding disk. Before he was 20' away from the food the herd of 12 deer were at the food. 20 minutes later another 12 or so deer came out of the brush. The first group must have tweeted their friends!

Whoa! Hold on, I'll be right over! Do you need me to bring some cream for the Russians?

Well, a new year threatens to come upon us to our continued annoyance, I think we have lived through the Chinese curse with 2016: "May you live in interesting times."
Christmas was, as usual, an excuse to get fleeced by the younger folks and disappointed by the older folks.
The wife and I will be embarking on a new adventure in our living arrangement: we shall become full time RVers, or as we used to call them "trailer people". Will probably move in halfway through January. I told her in order to make our transformation complete we will need a mangy pit bull chained to a stake in front.
I have been neglecting you all by not exposing myself to the forum much lately, it has been for your protection. When depression makes its way through bitterness and anger, it's best to keep my curmudgeonly self away.

Mike's sister and her husband sold their house and lived and traveled in their "camper" for several years. Finally sold their house and traveled full time. They joined a travel club, made lots of new friends and loved it. They could spend weeks on end wherever they wanted. And there's peace and quiet in your own space. "Trailer people" can move their castle wherever they decide to go. Look for the good stuff and ignore the bad. Expect to enjoy yourself!!

I wish you and your wife a wonderful 2017!!

I posted this on FB a short while ago:

I was a fan of White Russians way before The Big Lebowski.* My Modified Russian is even better. 1 part 360 Double Chocolate Vodka (70 proof) to 2 parts Unsweetened Almond Milk... proportions are approximate... pour, don't measure, and use a BIG glass. Ice if you like but not necessary if you keep the vodka in the freezer. Can't be beat. Congrats Tigers, Tide, and Happy New Year y'all!

*Around 1995, I was scoffed at by the bartender at a NC billiards bar when I asked for a White Russian. That's when I learned to make my own.

Ok, back to my corner.

You could get a tiny house instead.... easier to modify the layout and much nicer to look at on the outside. :)

Except for the glasses, we could be brothers.

Actually hope the can't start em. I call New Year's Eve "Amateurs Night." People who don't drink all year get pie eyed and then drive. Picture em bouncing from curb to curb and running red lights. That's pretty much what happens down here.
Yeap, Amateurs Night has been my thoughts for years. With so many options there is no reason to drive your car after celebrating. There is Tipsy Tow, free tow home from tow companies. Free cabs, usually Yellow Cab. All you have to do is plan ahead. The cops are going to be out in force and looking for the drunk/drugged drivers. Of course, the designated driver is a very good option.
I spent yesterday working in my yard raking leaves then doing my winter cut with my mulching blade on my little riding mower. I have always tried to keep my yard clean but this year I have put it off. The high yesterday was in the upper 50's, a great temp for doing yard work. I bagged up the leaves that had gathered against the fences and other places. I used the mower on the leaves in the grassy areas. I have 8 bags of leaves to put out on trash day and will probably add a couple more before Wednesday. I was so tired last night that I was in bed around 9:30. I got a good 7 hours of sleep and I'm sore as all get out.

Sore as in good exercise, or as in triggering back problem? Quite an accomplishment, either way. Yard-work is a great excuse for getting good exercise.

Cathy, I had a dream about you last night. I was a college student, and they were having a dog show, with lots of vendors. In the same building, without cancelling classes, but juggling them around to smaller rooms. It was a really bad scene, and I was late to class, but I got to say hi to you. Most of the elevators were not working, and it turned into another architectural nightmare. I have them more often than any other. I should have been an architect!
