All of you who have these gizmos aren't you concerned about your info being accesible by anyone?

Well maybe if I had anything that anyone would want to know. Here is a sampling of us.
What do you want to watch.
Oh I don't know what do you want to watch.
I asked you first ok we can watch this.
No I don't want to watch that try this.
What do you want to have for dinner
I don't know what do you feel like
How about this.
Do we have anything else
We have this
Oh ok lets have that.
We have to go to the store what time do you want to go
I don't know when do you want to. Soon?
Maybe.
It gets even worse when you have the availablility of 600 different things to watch on 7 different apps. All of out TV is online now. With all these different choices we watch the same things we have watched befor cause other things don't sound too good.

I hope that was including the Garbage Disposal. Good reasonable plumbers are hard to come by.
Yeah they're great folks. Sometimes I have to steer them away from rebuilding a whole system tho. They push the workers a bit too hard to push upgrades and add-ons. The disposal was only $100 from HD.

Last year I had a bit of a leak from the kitchen sink drain into the wall/floor. They quoted me for a rebuilding of the drain and venting system from the roof to the basement. I walked him downstairs and pointed at the pipe and asked him to just fix it right there. $75 out the door. The builder of our development was poor. No glue was found on the drain pipe. There was no felt under the shingles on the back of the house either.

Yeah, I probably have the same apps and usually end up watching old stuff like Gunsmoke or Alfred Hitchcock.

For me it's the principle of the thing. I don't want anyone knowing my business. That's why we don't use Icloud either.

I would think that people get pretty used to these things beeing around and say some day you are discussing your finances. Since everything is recored in these things do you really not mind that kind of info in the cloud, especially knowing Amazon's lack of scruples?

Mike I don't think I'm hiding my head in the sand. It's a choice. Just something to think about.

We've avoided them as well, similar reasons. And no way to install defensive software, just an always open hole in one's network. Nothing on the cloud, either. Check the news, almost daily, to get reassurance on how secure THAT is!

And not just Amazon. They all share the same (lack of) scruples, the only thing they care about is how to make money off your data. And making you pay for it.

Do you use a mobile phone? If so all your conversations are recorded and all your movement from one location to another can be tracked, even if you have GPS turned off. Do you surf the internet? All the internet providers are keeping tabs on you. Do you use Amazon and/or other shopping sites? There's more information about you 'out there' already. You'd have to totally unplug if you don't want to be tracked.

Agreed. It's everywhere. But like I said it's a choice. I choose to limit my exposure.

I wasn't saying you shouldn't be using these devices. I asked if you all aren't worrying about the exposure and I guess not. And that's fine because you are making an informed choice.

Got released late on Tuesday afternoon with no diet restrictions. So enjoyed a wonder dinner and time at our daughter's house yesterday. I did take a 1 hour pre-dinner nap as I was quite run-down feeling.

Today I'm still washed out feeling but doing OK.
Excellent! Glad you got to be home for the holiday! Now rest & feel better. Praying still.

@2legsshrt ... I've got another Dot and 4 outlet adapters due to arrive on Monday.

Yepper, got spoiled real quick also!

... it doesn't come back on without resetting the switch.

Couldn't ya just reset da switch after ya pour your cup?

How about this one. Alexa how do I get rid of a dead body?

Ask her to tell a spider joke!

BTW Pat, good BT speakers are pretty inexpensive right now.

... very quietly whisper the questions to the Alexa

By then it will probably be all telepathic...

Nope ... if the switch is in the 'on' position and power is stopped to the unit, when plugged back in, the switch has to be pressed again to turn it on.

I've got this from Anker for $40 and like them for the price. Certainly not as good as my SIL's Bose but still quite acceptable for me. My son has the previous model, still available on Amazon for $10 less, and he likes his too.

Pher dose dat don't have Alexa:

Why did the spiders have such a strong connection?

    They saw eye-to-eye-to-eye-to-eye-to-eye-to-eye-to-eye-to-eye.

    Alexa, tell a vaping joke.

    I don't have a joke for that.

    See, nuttin' funny 'bout vaping!

The one going around now for Siri and the iPhone is ... ask her why fire trucks are red. It's too long to add here, sorry non-iPhone folks.

You can ask Alexa that question too ... but her answer is much, much shorter and not as funny.

I hope when I post something you guys give me about 10 min because I usually end up editing it 10 times before it is done.

I often do that too. There's been some very weird mistakes in my posts that were caught before sending.

He didn't mean you are the ostrich. Over the years it's been overwhelming realizing how much of our private info is out there. Actually, I believe all our info is out there for anyone to see if they know where and how to look. It's not just what the Dot might hear, but everything we do on the computers as well so I've just stopped thinking and worrying about any privacy I always assumed we had.
