Now how 'bout some happy rice...

Did you make those? They are fantastic. I am going to share this pic with people at my church - they will love it... Since a good many of them are Filipino's - they eat a lot of soup and rice...

Got all cleaned up and then decided to mow the front lawn. (always backayusswards) Started misting on me and I had to cracker him up to 5th gear. Next time, I made a note to self to wear a bra if I'm racing the rain. bahahahahahahahaha

Did know realize how bumpy the yard really is. In the recliner and I still feel a bit discombobulated.

Although it's pretty hard to tell from just feeling my usual un-normal self.

Many of the locals say that he is stealing their water. Since he is storing it up for drought conditions, they saucy that it does not exist as runoff, and contributes to drought conditions.

Sort of reminds me of the lady who complained of daylight savings because it caused the sun to rise earlier and therefore make summer hotter.

LOL That made me think of the woman who called into a radio station to complain about deer crossings. She said they should not have them where there was so much traffic. lol

Janet:
I think that's a great attitude to have. Why expend the energy lamenting something that didn't go the way you wanted? Not going to change anything and besides, it often works out to be a blessing.

I agree, Janet. Some years ago before she married. our daughter applied for a English teaching job in Japan. Most of the applicants were twenty-something and she was in her thirties. She was not selected and was rather disappointed. Not long after, that terrible tsunami hit Japan and I read that an American teacher was killed there. I kept thinking what a blessing it was that she wasn't there. Sometimes hearing "no" is a good thing.

Update on Mike. Yep, he got whatever I had yesterday. Don't know if this is something going around or we just got the prize. So glad it only lasts 24 hours. I was totally miserable for 24 hours and then poof! All better. This morning Mike is upright and holding down fluid so I'd expect him to be normal in another hour or 2. So, if you wondered why he didn't post yesterday... I sure hope nobody else gets it, but at least it's a quick one.

Glad you are better, Janet, and hope the same for Mike.

I used to swear by Kenmore/Whirlpool fridges/ranges and washers. Seemed like you couldn't kill em. The past several years though we've had 2 fridges need a new compressor about 5 years after we bought them. What's up with that? The last repairman who was here said what they're making these days is junk and I'd have to agree with him. I'd definitely have to check out reports on other brands before I buy again, especially now that I want a few bells and whistles on them.

Forty years ago, when we were first married, we bought a washer, A/C and lawn mower at Sears...the Kenmore brand. All three lasted for over 20 years. We haven't found anything since that lasted that long.

Did not get the convection microwave - already gone - I think the salesman that helped me last night find someone for help in the appliance section bought it - he was asking as many questions as I was... LOL Maybe next time.

Found another good deal, but it is a much larger unit - not sure we want one that big - gotta think it over first...

It's Monday and I don't mean to brag, but it's been almost five hours and I'm still doing good on my diet.

I love that little laughing girl with the pigtails. I can still wear the same sized earrings I wore in high school. :D

I'd have a lot of things for my kitchen if I'd really push for them, but I have a bad habit of making do with what is already here and working. Plus, for quite awhile I thought we were going to move and figured the new place would have everything I wanted. Looks like we're not going to be moving, for awhile anyway, so there is a guy coming tonight to talk to us about upgrading the kitchen. We'll see how that goes.

You might want to weigh the cost of a warranty against just replacing the appliance. I'm reminded of Mike's mother who bought warranties on everything. More than 1 repairman told her that after all those years of paying the warranty she could have had a brand new vacuum or clothes washer etc. With appliances when the salesman asks if I want the warranty I ask him if he expects it to fail in the first year or two. He looks shocked and then laughs and continues with the sale without it. Now big stuff, like cars with all their electronics are another situation. Whatever you decide I'm sure is going to be right for you. Whatever makes you feel better about buying it. Good luck, I hope it's still available to you and I'll wait for a report on what you think about how easy and well it works.

Suggest that you weigh the cost of a SquareTrade warranty against the cost of replacement. A SquareTrade warranty is much cheaper than an in-store warranty. A SquareTrade warranty can be purchased up to 30 days after the purchase of the item.

Heh. We have a friend who taught ESL in China off and on for years. The last time she applied to return for another stint she was rather bluntly informed "Your age is a liability." and was denied. Some things just don't translate well when being told "no".

I worked for Sears in the early 80's. Their products went downhill quickly shortly after I moved on. They've been in the business of running off employees & customers for at least that long. That's what happens when a company gets so impressed with themselves that they don't think they have to impress anyone else. Saks Fifth Ave. is the same way, very impressed with who they are & total crap to work for. I worked in retail mgmnt for 20 years, some good companies & some bad. The bad ones were entirely too in love with themselves.

They are not known for good manners. It is not unusual for them to tell someone they are fat, need to lose weight and then laugh about it! Do you mind if I ask the age of your friend? I have been thinking of getting certified to teach ESL.

Same fer my socks... when I, on da rare occasion, I wear any! And yes, I still do have a pair of HS baseball liner socks dat's survived. Noper, I don't won't wear
'em wid my sandals...

BB,

When ya mentioned ST da other evening, I did a lil' sleuthing. Found dat a Lowes' $299 convection microwave 3 year warranty ran 'bout $30 in house. ST was ten bucks more.

So I do think dat it all depends on both da device and current retailers options. IOW, do pre-purchase due diligence based upon da device and source.

Was impressed wid ST's policy; especially da 30 day post-purchase option.

Not bad mouthing 'em at all. Just do a lil' comparison prior to an anticipated purchase.

BTW, going from an ST 3 year to a 5 contract, a bit more dan double (understandably).

I'm pretty sure nothing was made by sears themselves. Everything was farmed out BUT they had an amazing quality control. And yeah, now craftsman is made in china.
Kenmore was made by Wirlpool which was owned by Sears. Craftsman was made by Snap-on. No more, who knows who make Sears stuff?!?

Summertime, summertime, sum, sum, summertime. I can't wait for summertime!

She was 60 when she was denied. Keep in mind that this was after having performed the job at the same college - Hangzhou Teacher's College in Hangzhou Province - over several decades. When it comes to this age policy apparently merit doesn't mean squat. "You old now. Go away."

What she thinks they were getting at was the costs of insurance and potential risk for health issues was too high now for someone of her 'advanced' years and... you're out.
