I do believe in da three S's: shoot, shovel, shut up!

Dat I could live with!

My back yard (south side) is flippin' awesome with a rich loam component. Da front is sugar sand and looks like Hades during our dry periods.

At least it's not a left/right issue. Just a north/south... oh crap, never mind...

I don't know if you know about muck. The cane farms around Lake Okeechobee get rid of it all the time. Get about 5 inches of it delivered to your front and have it tilled in. Plant some St. Augustine plugs or sod. You lawn will grow like Jack's beanstalk.

They've got a 30 amp high draw that's great, good reviews. I've got a set that I use in my IPV3.

I lucked onto a set when I first got my Copper Hana. I knew I should have grabbed a few more. Not trusting the ones I see on Amazon to be authentic. Looking for something comparable.

Dat muck is awesome fer grass; fruit & citrus, not so much due to 'heavy metals'!

That stuff is not real grass. My dog did not even like to walk on it.

I'm a retired mailman. There weren't many customers who had St Augustine grass on their lawns in the area of NC where I carried mail, but I loved the feel under my feet. Made me feel like my feet weren't touching the ground, because the stuff is so thick that they weren't!

I've seen articles about hay bale gardening. That would be good for vegetable gardens. Similar to a raised bed, but you plant into the bales. There are YT videos on it. I wish I had a place for a veggie garden, but we have potted plants on our patio. I havn't messed with the plants in several years, but used to have beautiful plants.

The hay or straw bale gardening does look interesting, but around here no one bales straw and the hay bales are all the huge round ones. I have looked at getting an old hay bale for mulch, but they're not something that fits in a car, or even a pickup.

This year I'm pretty much just doing some mixed sunflowers in the front, since the birds have dropped a lot of black oil ones. Sunflowers are aleopathic for a lot of other plants, so not much else will grow around the feeders. Then some Mignonette since it's about the only really nice scent plant that can be direct seeded here. (Well, actually, just about anything can be direct seeded - it's getting them to flower or bear before fall that's the trick.;))

Then a teeny tiny vegetable garden. I have to have a couple of tomato plants and some cucumbers for salads, even if I'm not doing the huge canning garden I used to. And of course when I go for the tomato plants I'm sure that some flower plants will jump in the box with them to go home with me.

I'd take a nap later today but if I did then I could almost guarantee that I wouldn't sleep tonight.

Hope all a safe from the nasty weather down Texas/Louisiana way. It's absolutely beautiful out this morning but, unfortunately the nasty weather is supposed to be moving this way.

hope it don't take you as long to learn as it did me......Take A Nap!!! You aint sleepin at night even without napping!!! lol Actually, I could be wrong, but I really think that sleeping when I was tired, no matter what time of day it was, for as long as I needed til I woke up, might be what finally got my body to be able to sleep better!! I do still sometimes gets bouts of insomnia, but not nearly as bad as I did. Of course, this is hard to do if you aren't alone.

My neighbor is doing straw bale beds - looks weird, but he says they work great...

I've slept on straw bales.......didn't like it, can't imagine doin it every night.

I am just curious - Gas here has gone up quite a bit over the last few weeks - about 30 cents - how about your areas...

I'm new to gardening...bought my first house about a year ago. I received a present in the mail: Hori Hori Knife (they sell them on amazon, too). WOW! You could filet a fish with this thing it's so sharp. [/QUOTE]

My nephew has been wanting to get one of these. Keeps trying to talk his mom into wanting one, so he can get it for "her" lol

Save the effort and expense and just mow the weeds. At least they're green.

Our worst weeds are brown. Spear grass. It's horrible cuz it grows tall all over and you have to mow even though the grass doesn't need mowing!

I haven't flown in about 18 months, and will have to, this week. Has anyone flown recently? What's the deal with batteries? I keep seeing warnings on airline websites that Li Ion batteries are a hazard ... Advice?

Are you comin to Texas??????? :)

David is correct. Batteries in Cary-on. Preferably in individual containers... Amazon sells some fantastic 18650 cases. They are clear, will hold 2 18650s or 2 18500s or 4 18350s
But whatever you store your batteries in is good.
If you have a mod with a non-replacable battery, turn it off and put it in a ziplock Baggie.

Dunno why I didn't look for these on amazon but thanks!!! 3 batt cases for 2.38 with free shipping.

If you buy your batteries from Orbtronics they give you a really nice 2 battery box with them. I imagine that they probably sell them as well.

I think RTD does too when you buy them in pairs.

And then you get to start the process all over. The paint looks good, but I've long been an advocate of green cement. No need to mow, feed, thatch, just repaint every few years...

Wow......never woulda believed that if I hadn't seen it! Always thought that was just a joke.

That means at $25 a bottle - it would only cost me about $3,600 to make my yard green - not going to happen...

Jeepers you got a big yard! (bells too)

Well if he took the topsoil (now that's weird!) it ain't e-z to plant grass in rocks! LOL

We do it here all da time! Our ground is full of limestone. hmmm maybe that's why it's always sparse and brown. lol hard to grow maters or anything else in dat stuffs too.

Summer rye is an annual. You only use it to fill in when you have an existing lawn that needs a boost. Most of my actual grass is tall fescue. Kill the weeds, fertilize the fescue and overseed with rye and it should look good in about 6 weeks which is just about the time we expect to put it on the market.

looked up that fescue stuff. I think it would work well here......does it kill speargrass???

Good morning everyone! Looks like a gorgeous day shaping up. Yikes! I slept straight through for 8 hrs. Can't remember do that for a long-long time. I'm usually up 3 or 4 times for pee breaks. Must have really been wiped out after all that sickness and outdoor activity.
When I actually sleep for 7 or 8 hours straight, I'm deliriously happy all day. I just can't stop smiling and telling everyone! You must have really needed it.

Matt - I've always been proud of my 'textured' lawn - kind of like 50 shades of green. Some grass, some dandelions, some chickweed, some ground ivy, some clover, some crab grass, some wild onion, etc, etc.
I remember when my landlord made me cut my lawn. I was so sad. I could count, at least, 15 different kinds of plant in my yard. There were a few kinds of flower. There was a beautiful ivy (or something that looked like ivy) covering the back fence. It was lush and beautiful

He did give in and let me leave the ivy and flowers all over and around the back fence.

Wow! What a way to wake up!
Hearing loss is a mercy. I didn't realize how much it had progressed.

I ignored the beep, since, so far as I have determined, many of the sounds that wake me up have no origin outside of those addled nerves.

I am concerned about the thrift store across the street from there, since all the smoke is flowing that way. They might have some smoke damage to their place.

They finally got a semi to tow away the trailer that was parked in front of it.
