I woke up to a slight beeping sound. Then I looked outside. It is raining. Lots of emergency vehicles. The building across the street is burning. Massive amounts of smoke, and still some flames. Luckily it is not used for anything but storage-- mostly junk last time I looked.

Oh my........so glad you were ok!!! That's too close to home.

Good morning everyone! We're still here! I thought ECF might have moved during the night and I'd be flailing around trying to find everyone!

That beep might have been the smoke alarm in my place.

There is a break in the rain, but the radar map shows a patch of rain here. LOL! I mean, it is really smoky!!

Geeze, what a way to wake up! It's probably a good thing that it's raining where you are though. Floating embers could set off fires elsewhere. Of course it does make for more smoke. Would it help to close everything up and turn on your AC if you have it? Might help filter the air? Or maybe you should think of going somewhere upwind?

Mornin! they're saying maybe tomorrow, not sure. I'm just glad they're taking their time to fix issues now rather than doing it quickly and having more issues after the move.

The smoke is flowing 90 degrees away from here. I just called the manager of this place, because they are trying to contact them. I don't know if they were thinking of evacuating us. My place is closed up, and I do have an air filter running. However, I can smell the smoke, and my eyes were burning for a little bit. I have been vaping heavily, I think to reduce the smell of the smoke. They were running the water-cannon about half an hour ago.

Now they are removing the metal sheathing on the roof to expose the last of the fire and shoot water into it. I have my door closed, and the window secured. The new owners are more selective, so this is the biggest excitement in a long time.

I suppose I ought to do some minor tweaks to my writing project, and get busy cutting out some more denim for stuffed animals to sell at fall fest.

Hearing loss is a mercy. [emoji23] I didn't realize how much it had progressed.

I ignored the beep, since, so far as I have determined, many of the sounds that wake me up have no origin outside of those addled nerves.

I am concerned about the thrift store across the street from there, since all the smoke is flowing that way. They might have some smoke damage to their place.

They finally got a semi to tow away the trailer that was parked in front of it.
Heck of a way to wake up. I have a neighbor behind me that has an all night get together one night every week. Last night during the big storm something went bang really loudly. Wake the dead loud. Still have no idea what it was but, I could hear the guy yelling at somebody about it. Only thing I can figure is someone threw something in the fire barrel, maybe an aerosol can. One of these days I am going to have to call the cops. I don't want to be "that" guy but, with the trouble I have sleeping anyway, I don't need someone making noise all night. They literally go until 5 in the morning or so.

They brought in a piece of heavy equipment to pull of the rest of the roof on the end that was still smoking. It is done now.

Now I wonder how long it will take before they demolish the ruins. Once that is done, the neighborhood will be prettier than it was before the fire. :D

0mg - hope everything turned out ok. I'll bet that was scary. Interesting too in a voyeuristic kind of way. I don't know anyone that isn't sort of fascinated by a big fire. Not in a weirdo kind of way but just fascinated. I think it might actually be an evolution kind of thing. "Ugh! Big Fire! Me run fast. Ok stop and watch now!" Kinda like that.

I am sure there will be some sort of investigation unless the source of ignition is obvious. Then they'll have to wait on the insurance company. Around here at least the tear down doesn't happen quickly. Had a small church burn about a year and a half ago near here and they are just now carting off the remains of the building.

I admit to it. Now that I am down to tweaking my writing project while waiting for approval, and with no car and very little money, I am kind of bored.

So a double bright side this am, 0mg. Beautification project, and it wasn't YOUR house!

Some years back, there was a house in town that was to be demolished. Local FD arranged to burn it down, pulled in units from some other small town FDs, and had a practice day on it. Most of our town turned out to watch. Nice to do, when you know that nobody is at risk!
